The entire case rests over cabriole legs terminating in trifid feet. This is an absolutely gorgeous reproduction for anyone passionate about the American Chippendale form. Used. Measures about 48" x 19" 43" There is a stamp on the back of the piece in black- see pic. I cannot make it out. I can read what I believe is Lawrenceburg Warranted Manufactured. The other words. Especially the top and what appears to be state initials I am unable to read. This piece is very heavy. The wood appears to be walnut. It has been refinished- that I can tell. I believe it's a gorgeous piece! But that is my perception. I believe it is is from around the turn of the century. Someone told me 1850- 1860. But I do not believe so because of the black stamping on the back. There are 2 holes on the back of the piece on each side toward the top. My guess is for a mirror. But I could be wrong. This fine Pennsylvania Tall Chest of Drawers exhibits the classical architecture of the Chippendale era adapted for the Neoclassical taste of the early 19th Century. Retaining it's original oval pulls, these with roses embossed inside an infinite double loop and entirely untouched feet, this is a particularly desirable object for collectors. The concave crown molding is bold, aggressively projecting over the unembellished case of three small drawers over five graduated full drawers. The sides of the case extend through the feet, making the interior blocking of the feet an integral part of the case and something permanent- much of the reason the feet have survived in such extraordinary ... morecondition. The backboards are untouched and typical of the period with neat rows of square forged iron nails affixing the backboards to the case. Each drawer is of fine craftsmanship. The tidy hand dovetails crisp and perfect, the pine plank bottoms chamfered on the sides and front to be set in grooves along these edges; all drawers are tacked at the back edge with three hand forged nails. Protecting the contents of one drawer is a full dust board, the other drawers with partial dust boards over the first one-third. AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS OVER OGEE FEET Pennsylvania c. 1790 Item# 410QNP11W A bold and impressive object. This fine American Chippendale Tall Chest of Drawers originates in southeastern Pennsylvania, possibly the Delaware River Valley. The craftsmanship is impeccable, the cabinetmaker choosing vivid walnut planks carefully to showcase the most important and striking aspects of the chest. Note in particular the wonderful flowing grains along the sides of the case, the overall horizontal flow of the grain along the front of the drawers lapsing in random swirls and burls of the plank. The case is crested by cove molding projecting over three small drawers, two medium drawers and four broad drawers- all carefully graduated to flow harmoniously together. Noteworthy are the two drawers with patches, not unusual for these cases ... morewith overhanging lips on the drawers- these are particularly susceptible to being damaged when a drawer is closed unevenly or too harshly, as is probably the case with one or both of these drawers. The repairs were done rather competently, the restorer having to carefully choose boards with at least as much figure as the neighboring parts of the drawers. The drawers are embellished with replaced pierced brass hardware. The frames handsomely dovetailed white pine with integral runners mitered to accept the chamfered white pine bottom, mostly crafted of a single huge plank of pine, this tacked along the back edge with iron nails. The drawers are flanked by fluted corinthian columns with turned caps and bases, the whole case resting over very striking and significant ogival feet. They project an unusual sense of strength and masculinity, each with soft scroll cut returns and resting over thin blades. The back of the case shows the simple and tidy construction we expect from the best craftsmen of this region, the triangular rear foot supports dovetailed into the facings for a permanent joint. Antique 18th Century Walnut Queen Anne Highboy Chest of Drawers 1725-1750
Description Fine 18th century highboy with beautiful burl walnut veneer and cabriole legs ending in club feet. Made in New England. Torus molding below the cornice is the front to a hidden drawer. This is an earlier highboy and was made circa in 1725-1750. Provenance: Northeast Auctions. Portsmouth, NH. Dimensions 69 inches high. 22 inches wide, and about 18.5 inches deep. 69x22x38 Condition The condition of the highboy is very good for its age. It is structurally sound with nice color. The are some places where small amounts of the veneer is missing(see photos) But this is normal for a pieces of this age and I don't believe it takes away from its appearance. Also, the molding on the left side of the upper right small drawer is missing. I have just ignored this, but if it bothers you it would be an easy fix. It appears to be constructed primarily of walnut wood. There are several distinguishing features that influence our opinion as to the date of this piece: The dresser was constructed with square-head nails. Which were used from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. It is constructed of solid-wood boards measuring up to 16" in width. Which could only have been made from very large trees long ago. This was cut and finished by hand-held tools, which is an indication that it is pre-1840. All of the saw cuts in the wood appear to be parallel rather than circular. This indicates the use of mill saws during construction. The wood also appears to be hand-planed. The dresser features turned-wood pulls. Which we believe to be original. It also has paneled sides, which was a feature in many early Philidelphia chests of drawers. This piece is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There is a significant crack in the drawer second from the top. It is still structurally sound. All of the drawers have locks, but we do not have the matching key. This piece has cracks, wear, chips, discoloration and repairs that are consistant with a piece of this age. The"flaws" only contribute to the primateive nature of this chest of drawers. They quietly tell the stories of its life. The dresser measures 45 7/8" tall by 42 5/8" wide by 20" deep. The drawer faces are all 36" wide. PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT ANTIQUE CHEST OF DRAWERS Probably Delaware River Valley c. 1780. Feet& brasses replaced Item# 411PKP29A This precious little American Chippendale bachelor's chest of drawers is a fine representation of rural Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Probably originating from the Delaware River Valley region. The chest is distinct for it's marvelous display of swirling walnut throughout the drawers and particularly in the top of the chest. This chaotic furling of the grain is almost coordinated between the drawers, the craftsman matching swirls only subtly to give cohesion to the facade. The construction is typical of the region. The drawers crafted with tulip poplar woods in the frame with the white pine planks in the bottom set perpendicular to the face against the rabbets in the sides with runners applied over ... morethis. Original rosehead nails tack the back edge of each drawer bottom and are strengthened with triangular blocks along the lip. Some care was shown in crafting the feet. All of which are 20th century replacements. With a robust sense of presence, the feet appear to be faithful representations of what would have been on the chest originally. While unfortunate that the feet have been lost, it is a relatively common issue due to the immense pressure the feet remain under and their susceptibility to breakage during moving. The price of the chest is reflective of the replaced feet, as a chest of this very attractive size and form should command an upper four figure market value with original feet. Any collector of period American furniture. Particularly anyone who enjoys the masculinity and rural qualities of Delaware River Valley furniture, will certainly cherish this fine bachelor's chest. Preserved in nearly untouched condition Item# 411DXP29A This unusually striking American Chippendale blanket chest is distinguished by the open dovetailing of the case. This following from the sides through the feet to accentuate the hand crafted nature of the object. Pennsylvania craftsmen during the late 18th century built these pieces to be family heirlooms that could pass from one generation to the next and the quality of craftsmanship was something they took pride in and openly advertised- while other work centers sought to hide the dovetail, being simply a means of joining one plank to another, clientele in this region expected excellent joinery and examined it as part of the purchase process. As a result, the dovetail became something of an art form, this ... moreexercised to it's fullest in the presentation of the case. Remaining in nearly undisturbed condition with only minor repairs. The chest retains not only it's original brasses and all original hardware but also untouched feet- these are beautiful statements of purity in construction, the entire underside revealing only wooden peg joinery with no glue or nails. A back foot support and accompanying block are separated from the underside, allowing you to see exactly how the blocking perfectly fits together inside of the foot(see pictures in the slideshow) The drawers are constructed in the typical manner of the region. The poplar secondary woods hand dovetailed in the frame with the two-board bottom half-lapped at the joint, chamfered along the sides and set in grooves, allowing them to expand and contract freely. They retain their original brasses and locks, though it is possible the middle drawer has a replaced bottom since the two planks are not half-lapped and the end grains show some variation. Solid walnut with pine secondary wood construction. 3 over 2 over 4 lip moulded drawers. A desirable configuration. All drawers are dovetailed, with hand chamfered drawer bottoms, and yellow pine secondary woods. The cornice moulding is the original. As well as all of the interior drawer slides and back boards. Some talented woodcrafter made it and the bottoms of the drawers and the boards on the back are handhewn. It is walnut and even though some of the boards on the back have been replaced they are walnut also. The drawer runners have been replaced so that the drawers work easily. Other than than and the back. It is all orginal. The top has had some minor repair that is shown in two of the pictures. The piece has 4 drawers, top one extends out over the rest giving it a very elegant look. The top is 45" wide, 21 1/2" deep at the top drawer and 20" deep the rest of the way down. There are 4 drawers as you can see, roomy. I show a picture of the dovetails on the drawers, also the inside of one of the drawers with a knothole. Rare Antique Solid Walnut Wood Dentist Wall Cabinet/Jewelry Box Chest of Drawers
Very Unusual Antique Dentist Wall Cabinet/Jewelry Box/Chest This rare and very unusual antique dentist wall cabinet is made of solid walnut and dates from around the 1910's to the 1920's. The secondary wood used to construct the drawers is solid maple. The drawer fronts are all 15 5/8" wide and the insides all measure 14 3/4" wide and 8" deep. The top three drawer fronts are 1 1/2" high. The fourth is 2 5/8" high and the fifth or bottom drawer is 4 1/8" high. The glass knobs have a hexagon shape and are probably not original to the cabinet. The top shelf is 3 3/4" deep and the second shelf or lower compartment with the mirrored back measures 2 3/8" deep once the glass door is down. There are two sturdy metal brackets protruding from the back for mounting the cabinet to the wall. The top counter ... moresurface can be fitted with a 1/8" to 1/4" thick glass top to protect the surface(it appears to have had one at one time) Each of the top three drawers on both sides are divided into 18 sections, each 2 3/8" x 2 1/8" The dividers, sides and bottoms are covered with white velvet material. The fourth drawers on both sides are also covered with white velvet on the bottoms. The cabinet is in very good to excellent condition for its age. This listing is for the Cabinet ONLY.
