ANTIQUE WALLACE STERLING SILVER LADIES' DRESSING TABLE VANITY SET POST-1940
This ornate and beautiful women's vanity set is at least 70 years old. Each piece is marked sterling and has the Wallace logo stamped next to it. The mirror is beveled and has a gently tapered handle. I notice that there appears to be some loss to the silvering at the base of the mirror. But it appears to be only in the area of the bevel. There is a blank cartouche on the back side of the mirror where initials or a name could be engraved; the top of the mirror has several small dings consistent with its use over many years. The hand mirror measures 13 1/2 inches long and is 5 inches in width at its widest point. The comb is sterling and tortoise shell; owing either to the type of glue which was used to cement the comb into the silver top, or the passage of time, the 100% organic material(tortoise shell) the comb is made of, has crystallized ... moreand turned brittle. The comb is missing several teeth as shown; I have saved all of the individual teeth so that a patient restorer could cement them back into the places showing loss; however owing to the age of the piece, a replacement tortoise shell or plastic insert would need to be obtained if the owner wished to use the piece as a comb. This piece also has a blank cartouche on one side where initials could be engraved. The comb measures 7 5/8 inches long. The hairbrush has several small dings on the top side consistent with its use over seven decades on a lady's dressing table; its bristles are mounted into a genuine wood base. The brush, like the other two pieces of this set, also has a blank cartouche in the center of the top where initials could be engraved. The brush measures 10 1/4 inches long and is 3 1/4 inches wide. This is a high-quality vanity set and it looks truly spectacular laid out together on a dressing table. You will not be disappointed when you add this set to your home's decor. The top is sterling silver with a floral trim around the script initials“BG” that is what the letters look like) The lid also had a gold vermeil treatment(see last photo) The 8-sided glass jar is in good antique condition. Antique Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Vanity Dressing Table Brush & Nail Buffer
Items for your consideration are an antique Art Nouveau vanity dressing table sterling silver brush and nail buffer. 6" long for the brush and 4.25" for the nail buffer. The buffer is F&B hallmarked and marked sterling. And numbered 400. I have included closeups of the markings on the brush, one side reads C1747 and the other side is marked sterling with three additional marks. The center mark is a shield with an anchor inside it. I cannot make out the hallmark on the left, but from what I can see it might be Gorham. Very good condition for age. Please see detailed pics. 1940's era dressing table or vanity, What little I know about this(age and type) I learned from the owner of a consignment shop that specializes in antique furniture. Drawers are dovetailed and fronts appear to be a laminate. The three panel mirrors are in good shape aside from chipping as shown in picture#5. Has various nicks and scratches and the finial at the top is cracked and has apparently come off and be reattached with a single screw. DESCRIPTION: A solid ebony wood and silver tray by John Satchwell. The tray features a fluidly shaped gallery. Rear slats for holding appointment/calling cards and compartments with lids that twist to secure. The lids have sterling silver pull handles and embellishments with vacant cartouches surrounded by decorative engravings, they are hallmarked 1922, maker John Satchwell and Company Ltd who were situated in Station Street, Birmingham. The tray measures 15.5 inches wide, 9.25 inches deep and has'EBONY' stamped to the base along with the Satchwell stamp and a unique trace number.
