This remarkable late 1800s electroplate on copper dressing table mirror measures 13 ¼” tall x 11 ½” wide with 3 ½” bases on the“pillars” It has nice applied relief grapes and leaves overall with squared shell motifs and acorn finials and shows just enough copper to convince you of its 100+ YEARS. The back of the mirror is a bleached old pine. You will note a dent on one of the uprights and the central stretcher/crossbar is loose at its joints in the pillars(but doesn’t come apart) The uprights are cast iron weighted and the mirror shows age. Antique Oriental gilt dressing table set in original leather case
This antique. Oriental dressing table set for a lady is beautifully made and is housed in its original, black leather and purple, silk-velvet lined case. So redolent of the graceful extravagance of the'Downton Abbey' era, this set would add a touch of luxurious splendour to a lady's dressing table. Probably made at the beginning of the 20th century during the Edwardian era, the set includes two hairbrushes, a clothes' brush, a soft rectangular brush and hand mirror ~ sadly, the original comb is lost. The case no longer locks and the key is missing, and the gilt surface of the items is tarnished. Underneath the brushes are two small, lidded compartments for a lady to store jewellery and trinkets. The items have a'hammered' finish and lovely, cast details of birds and butterflies(please see images above for further information) ... moreThe brushes are still in their original paper and do not appear to have been used: the hand mirror also has some tarnishing under the glass. There are no maker's marks or indications of the exact composition of the metal: however, there is an old price label from the antique shop where this was purchased some years ago which says'Oriental brush set £175' The leather case has some wear on the base but it is otherwise in good, antique condition. An old traditionally-designed nail buffer. Probably made in the first part of the 20th century. And still perfectly fit for use. It measures five-and-a-half inches long. And comes with its own case. The back of the buffer appears to be ebony(though it is NOT marked as such) The case is lacquered to match the buffer; I think it is celluloid. Condition The nail buffer is in lovely condition. With no damage to the ebony, and the kid skin is still nice and soft, with no rips or tears, though it is discoloured and slightly worn from normal use. The case fits snugly. Which was produced in Longton, Staffordshire by FRANK CARTLIDGE in the LATE VICTORIAN ERA, around 1890. It has the impressed initials of the maker- F.C. to the reverse. After 1892 the maker added- Co- to his wares. So this item was definitely produced before that date. It has been decorated by means of the transfer method and coloured cobalt blue on a white background. The colours are still particularly vibrant and bold. The tray measures 9.1/2 inches x 6.3.4 inches and weighs approximately 750 grams. Between the double pedestals, is an impressive central cheval mirror with a large, shaped bevelled edge. Either side of the cheval mirror, atop the pedestals, is a swing mirror, which can remain flat like a triptych mirror, or swing to an angle for greater reflection. The doors and the drawer fronts are beautifully finished. With burr walnut panels, string inlay and satinwood inlays. The drawers retain their original highly decorative drop handles. The marble tops to the pedestals in cream/rust tones feature a large bevelled edge. The whole piece is finished with an impressive ormolu mount to the top of the cheval mirror, and it stands on turned feet. Impressive! This large piece of history measures approximately 144cm wide. 51cm deep and stands approximately 205cm high. Each of the pedestals has a surface height of approximately 84cm, and is 43cm wide. Circa 1890 in date. The `D` shaped top surmounted by a bevel edged shield shaped mirror with square column supports. There are lidded compartments and short drawers. Over a long frieze drawer, fitted with the original brass handles and raised on square tapering legs with the original brass castors. I have no idea how old it is, only that it is very old. If I had to guess, I'd say late 1700's, early 1800's. There are a lot of chips of the"japanned" edges. Some of the pictures make the chips look lighter than it actually looks in person. I had an estimate of apx. $500 to repair the chips. This is an antique French Art Deco vanity from the 1920's. It is made of finely crafted Walnut with dovetail and tongue& groove construction. The adjustable swiveling mirror is supported by two fluted columns and flanked by two curvaceous cabinets. There is a shelf directly beneath the mirror. On the left is a bank of three drawers. On the right a single door cabinet with a floral design subtly carved into one corner. The right side is topped with an unusual marble specimen with a mottled"Plum Pudding" veining pattern. The marble is custom cut to follow the curving contour of the cabinet top. Beautiful antique french art nouveau figural dressing table lamp from the early 1900s. The lady leans over an oval wreath ornamented with intricately cast flowers and leaves. A large flower blooms at her feet. This lamp is in wonderfull antique condition with part of one finger missing and a scratch in her arm. Beautiful Box. Silver it is heavy, not sure if it is silver or silver overlaid. It is French. Christie's when it sold Elizabeth Taylor's belongings after her death, sold this piece along with a similar piece with it for $1300.00. Hers was exactly like the one I have that belonged to my Mother. I have a copy of the item when it was sold at Christie's. It is a real Statement piece. it is 91/4 inches long and 3 1/2 inched wide. There can't be many of them, this was bought when my Mom live overseas at a Estate Sale.

I just conditioned the wood before taking photos so it looks shinier than it really is since it was still soaking up the conditioner. I believe this is an all original antique bench or foot stool made by Sikes Chair company. I think the wood is Mahogany and I believe the leather to be the original seat cover but I'm no expert. I found very little info on this. In fact I found no info on the piece it's self. The limited info I did find was on the history of Sikes Chair company. The short version of what I know is that in 1916 Sikes chair company resumed business in Buffalo. NY. Then went out of business in 1919. Only to buy Cutler Desk Company and operated under the Sikes Cutler Desk Corp until going bankrupt in 1929. The Sikes Company resumed production in 1933 and continued to produce furniture until 1956. there more history in between ... morethe times listed where the company moved locations and operated under different names. However, based on the above info I'd date this bench/ stool either 1916-1919 or 1933-1956. Anyway you look at it this is wonderful and unique piece of American history.
