I think it was recoated in white and they never scraped the paint off the the edge. The table can be repainted, however, it's all is in one's taste. I liked it the way it was. This high quality antique French Rococo dressing table is made of walnut which is in superb condition. The beveled mirror and frame are in excellent condition. There are a full width drawer to the front and two small drawers on either side of the mirror frame. There are a few small signs of its age on the table top that are shown in the photos. It is in strong and sturdy condition and the hand carving is not chipped or damaged. It measures 35" wide. 22" deep, 28 1/2" high from floor to table top, and 59 1/2" from the floor to the top of the crest. The front drawer measures 24" wide and 14 1/2" deep. and the two small drawers measure 4 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep. These are inside measurements. I bought this vanity in 1992 at In Days of Old. A small antique wooden dressing table pin tray. Probably made in the Edwardian period, or perhaps a little later. It is shaped like a right-angled triangle. And the longest side is just under 8 inches long. The base is marked: EBONY This tray is an elegant shape. And the corner joints of the edging are well designed, to keep everything firmly in place and prevent warping. Note: I have put a few odds and ends of jewellery in one picture. English George II Antique Kneehole Desk Dressing Table, 18th Century c. 1740-60
Fine English Chippendale Mahogany Kneehole Desk c. 1740-60 Originality preserved throughout in the hardware and feet- Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown is offered elsewhere in our collection Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably preserved English Chippendale Period Kneehole Desk. Circa 1740-50. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk, just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware adorns each drawer. Appearing to have never ... morebeen removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. This is a unique addition for the craftsman to make, as many of these knee hole desks are without such innovations. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. Ladies Antique Sterling Silver Dressing Table/Grooming Set In very good condition. This pretty little dressing table set was inherited from my husband's grandmother so I imagine it dates from approximately the 1920's-1930's. The handles are all in hallmarked solid sterling silver with the letters W.G.S. Ltd. A pretty design with an enamelled ivory silk background of pale blue cornflowers; it would make an original gift for a special occasion. Bristles on both the hairbrush and clothes brush are all in very good condition. Likewise the silvering on the mirror shows no marks of ageing. I have examined each piece in detail and there are two very minor flaws to note(see last two photos) The first is that where the mirror handle meets the mirror itself. Antique Victorian Silver Dressing Table Hair Brush Here we have for auction this lovely Victorian sterling silver hair brush. Originally part of a dressing table set, hallmarked Birmingham 1897. The maker's mark is partly rubbed, but is something&S- the only match we can find is L&S, which is Levi& Salaman. It is in good condition for its age- the brush and bristles are in excellent condition. Although they may have been replaced. The body of the brush is in good condition, with the cartouche unengraved and the pattern only slightly rubbed. It has sustained some damage in antiquity, where the handle has split and been resoldered- see last pic. It measures 9 inches long and weighs 192g. Though obviously, this is with the brush as well. The set includes two brushes and one comb all with beautiful foliate decoration. The box is lined with emerald green velvet and satin. Up for auction is this antique mirror. The trim is very pretty& looks like leaves all around it. It is silver plated. The back is covered with metal. The mirror is very old. 1920 SILVER & EBONY CANDLESTICKS DRESSING TABLE VANITY ANTIQUE SET CANDLE STICK
DESCRIPTION: Ebony wood candlestick with silver rim. Silver hallmarked London 1920. Maker William Robertson. Measures 5.5 inches tall, 2.75 inches in diameter at widest, stamped'EBONY MADE IN ENGLAND' to the base. This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s. When the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since. CONDITION: The silver collar spins but is perfectly secure. It has no significant dings, no scratches and minimal rubbing.
