For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. This listing is for a mahogany slant front desk. Chippendale style, ca. 1940, as pictured. It measures 41" high x 33" across x 19" deep, and is in Good condition. It does have several light scratches on the top and sides, most of which can be addressed by a quality polishing compound or scratch cover. There are 4 serpentine drawers. Original drawer pulls, ball and claw feet. Missing the key as well as 1 small knob on the inside compartment. A paper label on the back indicates the piece was made by the Northwestern Cabinet Co. of Burlington, Iowa. This company was in business between 1866-1971. This item is available for local pick-up in the Greenville. SC area. American Chippendale Walnut Antique Slant Front Desk, Pennsylvania c. 1790-1815
AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SLANT FRONT ANTIQUE DESK. PENNSYLVANIA Probably Delaware River Valley. Circa 1790-1815 Item# 1407JXE27P This is an outstanding example of late Chippendale from the Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. The craftsman executing this work selected the walnut planks with great care. Utilizing a positively chaotic grain flow for the drawers and prospect door with a more symmetrical grain for the lid and sides of the case. Lifting over period brass hinges(possibly original) to rest firmly on projecting lopers reveals a rectangular prospect door flanked by document drawers and two-over-one drawers beneath four pigeon-hole letter slots. The document drawer sides are covered with period inscriptions. Much of it being accounting but also with a note in the same hand and pigment reading"August 4 1812" and ... morea somewhat illegible signature of"Ger Ryall Jr. The facade of the desk is composed of four graduated drawers with molded lipping and period brasses in the original holes(probably replacements) The drawers are constructed in the typical manner for this region. The frame of poplar with dovetails of the sides contained within the dovetails of the front and back, the bottom boards half-lapped and deeply chamfered along the edges to set in grooves along the sides and front with triangular glue blocks along the chamfered edges for permanence. The back edge is tacked with square forged iron nails. The interior of the case features three-quarter depth dust boards of yellow pine. These joined together with tongue-in-groove joinery that has long since separated and left gaps between sections. The underside of the desk is clean and solidly constructed with a large rectangular block inside each foot- the underside is apparently untouched and retains an illegibly signature in large strokes. T his beautiful vintage desk is one of the best Colonial models of a Governor Winthrop style slant top desk. Was purchased in the 1970's from Terryville Furniture in Connecticut and is still in excellent condition. The Terryville Furniture Store was in business for 70 years and closed its doors in 1994) It does not have the secret compartment next to the little door inside, but it has an absolutely beautiful solid cherry wood rubbed finish. The raised cabinet with four large dove tail drawers sits on carved ball and claw feet, and in the slant top are small drawers, and a detailed small door. Here is a tall slant desk. Old paint, and likely used in a commercial setting as it's 5' long. Simple construction of pine, nails, and screws. It's sturdy and not fancy; a hasp for security, no trim, no compartments, just a simple desk requiring a tall stool. The paint is scraped nicked, chipped, generally well used over many decades. Has turned legs with a slant front desk top that lifts up and a secretary style top with doors that open and cubbies inside. Not sure of history of this piece. We obtained it from an estate sale in Johnston County, North Carolina. One of the most interesting thing about this desk is that in the upper corner of the right door there is a piece of paper taped inside that lists the presidents of the United States and has 24 of them with Woodrow Wilson being the last one and the date listed is 1893. This piece looks like perhaps the top may have been added later, not sure, and also where the slant top is looks like it was altered at one time as well. An amazing piece, all pegged. The dimensions of the desk are 45" tall x 30" wide x 17" deep. The one thing I found on it is that there are a couple of small pieces of veneer missing from the edge of the fold down desk front. My Mom had bought this desk back in 1990 and I think the pieces were missing then. There is also a small white smug on the front of the bottom drawer,that is a smug of white paint. My Mom apparently put it there by accident while painting something else. I do have the key for the lock for the desk top but the lock itself does not work. A beautiful early Secretary Bookcase Slant Front Desk Lined with Original Wallpaper! Known as a Plantation Desk here in the South. This is in two pieces. The upper section is about 200 years old lined in Original Wallpaper. The glazed cabinet has a single glass door with nine panes. The glass is exceptionally wavy. Inside are three shelves for books or your favorite primitive smalls. The top is flat with double molded crown. It is made of Southern Heart Pine. Walnut and Poplar hand planed wood. Using a 1760 design. I created the base with early mixed woods. The case is dovetailed and is pegged with wooden pegs. The slant front has bread board ends and opens out to a writing shelf supported by two pull-out slides. Inside is an early cubby with ten compartments. The brass escutcheon is early. Below the slant front is a drawer with hand planed ... moredrawer bottom. The legs are beautifully tapered and early. This secretary is in black paint which isn't old but is painted. 16595 Mahogany Slant Top Bar Cabinet Disguised like a Desk
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS FREE SHIPPING! What a great design for a bar. It is set up to look like a flame mahogany Governor Winthrop secretary desk with a blind door. Which means no glass in the two doors. When I first walked up to this I thought it was a desk, but as I got closer I realized that the two bottom drawers were not drawers as there are hinges there. When I opened the doors it reveals a storage compartment for bottles of spirits. The next section up is a drawer that is all mahogany lined. Then when you open what appears to be a writing lid, it reveals a double hinge masonite lined bar compartment. This is quite deceiving because it looks just like a desk. When you open the top it reveals two shelves that are masonite lined, but they have been flipped upside down to reveal the mahogany. The top is set up to store ... moreglasses and bottles. This piece is very cleverly done to appear like a desk from the 1930s to 1940s. The overall size is 30 inches wide, 14 inches deep at the deepest point and 79 inches high to the broken crown molded top. The desk is in the original dark brown finish with little nicks and dings here and there. We haven't done anything to it except dusted it and shot pictures. It has flame mahogany panels in the doors with beaded molding on the top, writing lid and across the drawer front. It has rope braided molding as well. The finish is worn on the inside where you can see they had a lot of storage probably had a glass there at one time. It could probably use a little touch up, but we are selling it as it is at a great price for a quick sale. If you look at the drop down lid, it also has surface scratches of sorts. Overall it is in nice condition and it is a great looking story piece. It would even fool the in laws, just don't let them open it! That brings me to the point that we do not have a key to lock the doors. Just tell them that if they open it, they have to pay your bills and that will keep them out. FREE SHIPPING! On this item. Massachusetts c. 1770 Provenance from the Israel Sack Collection w/ original label signed by Israel Sack in top drawer Held in a single collection since 1931(provenance details available upon request) Item# 409LXI13S A remarkable work of art from the Newburyport area of Massachusetts. This fine American Chippendale desk is clearly executed by a craftsman of some skill. The case is joined in a manner typical of the work center, the top with tidy exposed dovetails along both sides, the bottom board likewise dovetailed into the sides of the case. The drawer blades are set into the sides of the case behind a thin applied stile on either side, these carved with raised edges to simulate cockbead molding around the drawers. The backboards are bevelled around ... moreall three edges to set flush against the back, affixed at regular intervals with mostly original iron sprigs. Each drawer is crafted with utmost precision and care, the complex blocked drawer sawn from a very thick board in a manner that leaves the drawer light and agile while the beautiful mahogany plank maintains strength and stability. These slide smoothly in and out of the case with little friction or wiggle. The lid lowers to rest on a pair of mahogany lopers revealing an attractive fitted interior with six pigeon-hole compartments over three small drawers over two large drawers and an open storage compartment flanked by a pair of blocked drawers with half-shell carvings. A pair of document drawers flank the middlemost pigeon-hole and drawer, these with beautiful turned columns closely related to the Newburyport work center, one inscribed"William Holker/ Mooney's Block Water Street" The entire case rests over ogee bracket feet and conforming stepped molding, the lower 1 3/4" of all feet having been replaced in the early 20th century. Chippendale-style desk. Deep. Rich patina. Cherry front has turned a deeper brown due to age and oxidization. Appears to be mahogany on the sides. Four graduated drawers; interior has secret compartment. Hand dovetailed and planed. Ball& Claw feet likely replaced. We repaired the front piece of both support rails using an antique restorer. The piece was purchased at an Eastern Shore auction many years ago. It has been in a non-smoking home with other fine antiques. Although I have specified that this is for local pick-up. Continental slant or fall front desk. Made with intricate inlaid marquetry featuring burl fruit woods. This small decorative piece was likely intended as a ladies' writing desk. The fall front opens to a writing surface(that has a water stain) four drawers, and a compartment with a door. There are two doors below the writing surface each with scroll work inlay and ornate meta pulls, that open to a storage space with a shelf. The left front leg was broken and was repaired The desk has no other breaks or visible repairs. Only minimal wear and crackling to the surfaces consistent with age and use. The surface is beautiful and in good condition for her age. The inside of the desk also reveals a 6 drawers interior and an additional cubby holes Below the desk slant front. There are four gratuated drawers, The lock sets are original and in working order but no keys.
