I assume ... morethey did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of a quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. Clean or restore the finish on this desk, it is in the condition it was given me in. All in all this desk is in great vintage condition given its age. Top of desk 36 1/2" wide x 24 1/2" deep and the desk top is 29 1/2" above the floor. Will ship via Greyhound Bus to a station of your choice for you to pick up. But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. ANTIQUE MISSION OAK BEDROOM DESK This desk is of the type used in bedrooms during the turn of the century due to the small size of most rooms during the early America years. In addition to being used as a desk they were also used as secretaries. Sewing tables and also doubled as a night stand. This desk measures 47 1/2" in length in the unfolded position. 23 1/2" folded x 23" deep x 25 1/2" high. The folding legs are turned and have wooden casters, and the drawers are made with dove tail joints. This is a very sturdy desk which I have been using for the past six years as my computer desk. There are a few blemishes which can be seen in the photo's which can be best described as scratches and a few heat scorch marks which may have been from an iron. A lamp to close to the surface, or from a sewing machines motor heat ... moreall of which add to the patina of this beautiful desk. It has not been re-finished and am sure it could be if the buyer chooses to do so. I am not sure of it's origin but have seen a few similar which have been described as an item made in New England. This is a gorgeous arts& crafts era mission style desk or library desk. Solid quarter sawn oak construction. The back is open. It has turned spiral legs. A cane side. One drawer, dove-tail construction. There is a shelf underneath. Condition is very good. There are few scratches, one area of the side caning with a push-through as shown. Otherwise, the finish is very nice and this is an excellent piece for the home. A few minor scuffs to the thick spade footings. Measures 48 by 28 inches. Up for your consideration is a beautiful antique oak writing desk. It is in the Mission or Arts and Crafts design. We have had this for y ears in our home. It is quite sturdy. The measurem e nts are 26" deep x 38" wi de x 29 3/4" tall. The front drops down and in side is a writing platform w ith an inkwell hole. Pencil rest, and cubbies in t he back for en v elopes. Etc. To the right is a drawer which actually comes completely out. The hinges have been replaced on this front piece as well as t he glass kno bs. There is an old keyhole and the lock seems to still be intact. However we do not have a key. My husband had his computer on this desk and be cause the underside of the des k is open. I will describe condition as best as possible and have taken many pictures which show every side of item. PLEASE NOTE- white spots on desk in photos are fresh snowflakes that just started to fall. Desk is stored indoors but photos were taken while moving the desk. Measurements: Approx. 29-1/4" in height. 44" wide at widest part Table Top measures 27-3/4" x 43-7/8" 22" from floor to bottom of drawer legs are 6" wide outside edge of leg to outside edge of other leg approx. 36" shelves on sides have opening approx. 11" high x 24-1/4" wide from floor to bottom of cross pieces between legs is approx. 5-7/8" Handle pulls are original ... moreto desk and could easily be changed as one has a screw through front of knob while other is entirely wood front. There are some scratches and dings to wood as can be seen in photos. One rear leg had slight exposure to dampness at one time and has a little swelling. Which could be sanded and finished but I am leaving item in condition as acquired. Dovetailed drawer has had nails added on both sides for added strength at some point. Antique Mission Oak Library Desk I can find no markings on this except a#17 in pencil in the drawer slide and a# 17 in pencil in the drawer. I assume they did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of ... morea quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. Clean or restore the finish on this desk, it is in the condition it was given me in. All in all this desk is in great vintage condition given its age. Top of desk 36 1/2" wide x 24 1/2" deep and the desk top is 29 1/2" above the floor. Will ship via Greyhound Bus to a station of your choice for you to pick up. I was told by the previous owner that this was made between 1910 and 1920 by his grandfather here in west Tennessee.It is very heavy and well made. the top left side has some stains from who knows what.personally. Estate-Find 1908 GUSTAV STICKLEY Mission Oak WRITING DESK No.709 with Free S/H!
Straight out of a local estate. ORIGINAL authentic 1908 Gustav Stickley writing desk no.709. Five drawers with a kneehole compartment shelf underneath. Unsigned. But it has all the correct attributes and quality that speaks for itself. My research shows that many of Stickley's pieces were unsigned, or possibly had a label which could've fallen off over the years. This is 100% guaranteed to be 100% authentic Gustav Stickley! Pegged joint construction. Flush-tenon support beams underneath. GOOD CONDITION considering the age. LOOKS GREAT from a distance. But when you get real close.you can see many, many deep scratches in the drawer fronts(mainly the left two and some in the middle) and the top(mainly near where you would sit)like maybe this piece was used in a school, vandalized by teenagers.
