The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

The clock reads"patented jan. 29, 1901 jun? 1907" The clock works once in a while for a minute or two but that's it. It is not frozen or locked up. The spring is not wound too tight in my opinion but I'm not a clock expert. May only need a good cleaning. It reads" BY ROYAL LETTERS PATENT" above the clock. The desk is in good shape for its age. Has been properly taken care of and stored. When the desk top is closed the texture is that of some very old fabric( taffeta) glued to the wood on the underneath of the desktop. This is the part that shows when closed and has the initials"HM" his majesty. This is original and has wear consistent with age. The blotter is very old paper in good condition. There are two layers of paper and a piece of cardboard. I am not sure if the"HM" initials are sterling silver as there are no marks to indicate as such. The desk measures: approx 20 1/4" Wide x 6" deep closed x 14 1/2" tall with clock and 19 1/4" desktop when open(total length) beautiful mahogany wood! This is a rare find! It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. It has a big carved lion faces laughing with fangs and carving on the breadboard bevel edge slant lid. The drawer fronts are block front and have real true clam shell carving. This American Chippendale Ladies Writing Desk is elegant in every detail. It has North wind Lion motif on all five of the drawer handles and on the sides of the curvilinear legs. The legs extend gracefully down into traditional claw and balls on the floor. Ii is deep relief carved on all surfaces. The upper desk surface has an exquisite mahogany top outlined with an even more beautiful burl mahogany border. English George III Chippendale Bookcase Secretary Desk Late 18th Century with Modern Alterations. C. 1780-1800 Item# 130001KSH27 This is a very attractive English George III Chippendale Antique Secretary Desk. Originally crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century and altered during the first quarter of the 20th Century. It was probably a more plain version of the rather fine piece we see today. Altered to suit the appetite for high-style pieces during the first quarter of the 20th Century. Crafted of mahogany veneers with pine and oak secondaries, the case features two over three graduated drawers with replaced brasses over bold oversized bracket feet. The slant front drops over original hinges to rest on extending lopers, revealing a large mahogany writing surface with six document drawers over two long-thin drawers flanked on either ... moreside by an inverted graduated stack of drawers- this is a rather unusual feature, the graduation going from largest on the top to smallest on the bottom. It is crafted in two parts, the upper bookcase with adjustable shelves and glazed glass doors under a projecting crown and dentil molding. A visually interesting and desirable piece. Though not suited for collector tastes due to the alterations, this is a wonderful period secretary desk with a deep patination throughout giving it fine character. Fine English Chippendale Mahogany Kneehole Desk c. 1740-60 Originality preserved throughout in the hardware and feet- Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown is offered elsewhere in our collection Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably preserved English Chippendale Period Kneehole Desk. Circa 1740-50. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk, just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware ... moreadorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. This is a unique addition for the craftsman to make, as many of these knee hole desks are without such innovations. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. This listing is for a Fantastic Chippendale Style walnut( I think and am not 100% sure) and fancily veneered vintage Drop Front Secretary Desk with Ball and claw Feet and shell style carvings. 36 inches in overall height. About 16 inches overall depth at widest point of legs and 22 inches overall width again at widest point of legs. Brass lock and hardware but no key. Brass hinges and other hardware. Exotic veneer work. Two drawers. With hardware on one drawer broken and missing in part. Should not be very tough to find replacement hardware. I might be able to assist the buyer in doing so. Drop down door reveals a writing surface roughly 19 inches wide and 14 inches in depth with two drawers and 5 compartments worked in the back. Very elegant. When desk is closed there appears to be what looks like a surface burn mark which I am not sure if it actually is a surface burn mark or part of the grain as no damage can be observed under magnification. Antique country Chippendale school master's desk. Pine wood has been stained a deep reddish color and has a beautiful aged patina. Description: This listing is for a Partially Composed Late 18th Century English Chippendale One Drawer Desk. Mahogany. It is a very fine piece with wonderful color throughout, a warm patina dancing across the finish. The top is rounded along the edges, a slight lip over a very wide and thick mahogany veneered surface with outstanding flamed grains. A single broad drawer sides in and out of the table with what appear to be fully original pierced batwing pull hardware and escutcheons, newly polished, and a veneered drawer facade. The drawer is hand dovetailed front and back with a thin single board bottom chamfered along the edges to rabbet into the frame. The lock is brass, appearing to be original with replaced screws, though ... moreto verify this we would have to remove the entire lock and have not done so. The table rests over four straight legs, the interior edges bevelled, both front legs flanked on either side by pierced returns in the Chippendale manner. This is a beautiful and simple desk. Bringing the beauty of the 18th Century to a very useful piece of furniture. This is not a collector quality piece, as noted below in our discussion of some additions and adjustments, but it most certainly is a fine decorator piece and is priced to meet that market. This is a solid mahogany Chippendale desk with Queen Anne pad foot legs. Made in England, and stamped on every single lock plate on all ... moreseven drawers that this was made by Hobbs and Company of London. It’s really quite unique, with mahogany inside and outside the drawers, hand-cut English dovetail, fluted columns, solid mahogany carved scalloped Queen Anne pad feet, and a gadroon or carved edge on the shapely top. There are some surface scratches on the antique oxblood gold tool embossed leather top, which we can stain down to make them less noticeable. Some people are starting to like the worn look of these old desks, and there are no rips or tears, just wear marks. It’s all original, in dark brown with only the slightest red tint. It has carved columns, paneled sides, and is just simply stunning to look at. It’s finished all the way around so it can sit in the middle of a room. The overall size is 60 inches wide, 32 inches deep where the banks of drawers are, and in the center where you sit is 34 inches deep, and the overall height is 31 inches. The chair space is 25 inches wide, and 23 inches high. It’s a great desk with solid brass Chippendale style hardware, and all the locks are intact, although it doesn’t appear to have any keys, which is most likely an easy fix for a talented locksmith.

American Chippendale Slant Front Desk over Scroll Cut Bracket Feet Salem or Boston. Massachusetts c. 1770-90 Item# 120201PUP05 Presenting some of the best of the American Chippendale Period. This fine slant front desk is crafted of solid Cuban Mahogany, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flanking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers. The centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon ... moreholes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers, each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards. Though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly feature more intense scalloping- however,

English Chippendale Mahogany One Drawer Writing Desk England. C. 1760-80 Item# 100004RUP24 Circa the last quarter of the 18th century. Probably 1760-80, this is a fine and simple one drawer English Chippendale writing desk. It is crafted of mahogany primary woods over golden oak secondary woods, with a single solid golden mahogany plank making up the top– carefully affixed with a combination of screws set in wells and a single remaining glue block, the top has survived in outstanding condition with no cracking from shrinkage and expansion over the years. It is surrounded by quarter molding and projects over a single drawer with two bail style pulls, both pulls being period and probably original to the piece, though the pins are replaced(see more below in the condition statement) The drawer is framed with a scratched bead. Simulating cockbead ... moremolding, with hand dovetailing of the front and backs fo the drawer. The frame terminates on four chamfered legs. The frame is dovetail construction over tenon mortise joinery, locking the entire structure with perfection. The interior of the frame has areas of nearly black oxidization, with unfinished hand cuts and carvings throughout the underside, a testament of the tools used by the craftsman. Hand craftsmanship is written all over this piece. With original hand made screws still holding the top to the frame– three of the seven screws are entirely hand made. Rosehead nails are visible underneath on the rear leg blocking. This is an outstanding piece for any collector of the Chippendale Period. Particularly Georgian collections, but also is a wonderful strike point for any fine home. It’s subdued size allows it to comfortably function in a variety of spaces, bringing a strong sense of refined beauty balanced with simple austerity. Measurements: 38” wide by 21” deep by 28 ½” high Condition Report: Refinished. Sunbleached with some color variation between the top and frame. As well as between the sides, front and back. Top with minor dings, scratches and a burn scar.

C. 1770-90 Item# 120411EIU26 This listing is for a Fine Chippendale Period Ball and Claw Slant Lid Desk. Salem or Boston Area, Massachusetts circa 1770-90. It features wonderful dense grain solid board mahogany lid, rabbeting on both sides to complete the horizontal frame, lifting smoothly over replaced brass hinges and falling on two sliding mahogany lopers with original brass knobs to reveal a large writing surface and gallery of nine small drawers and four scalloped cubby holes. The drawers are each inscribed for where each belongs in the scheme of the desk, in pencil 1-9, and each is hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms rabbeting into the drawer frame. The center drawer is a wonderful sunk 18-lobed shell carved design flowing into the two ... moredrawers below it in a form common in Massachusetts case pieces, each drawer face carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The case is crafted of solid single boards of mahogany along each side. Dovetailed into the parallel-grained pine case bottom and through-dovetailed at the top. The back is constructed of three large pine boards, behind which a pine bar perpendicular to the boards to support the top to the bottom, dovetailed at both ends with a screw through the bottom. Carved solid molding runs along the bottom of the case with an applied scalloped skirt pendant at the center, reinforced from the back with rounded glued blocking. Each drawer is graduated. Each below larger proportionally to the one above, sliding in and out of the beaded frame. The white pine frame side rails are beaded on their top inner surfaces, dovetailed at the front and backs, the bottom boards running perpendicular to the case, chamfered along the edges and rabbeting into the frame. Original Antique 1753 Chippendale Engraving Plans & Specs Desk & Bookcase LXXVII
Description As described in the title and shown on the 10 photos and 2 scans(most accurate as to color and texture) This is an original engraving from a rather large volume that Thomas Chippendale published in 1754. We have no idea how many editions or printings were created from these rather well known plates. It was last matted and framed in the 1970's but the frame was damaged and we tossed it. We tested the mat and back and they are both acid neutral. The back is in good condition with the impressions of framing nails around the edges as would be expected. The mat is bright and clean without aging or damage so we are sending the print still mounted with two framer's strips on the back and the mat loose. The mat measures about 19 3/8" x 24 3/8" with an opening approx. 9 1/2" x 14 1/2" which shows and frames ... morethe plate impression. The print is on laid paper as it should be and is generally bright and clean with some ink fading and spotting. Outer area foxing or toning, several tiny pin holes and other expected wrinkles and marks. The bottom portion shows the remnants of binding and is bumped and injured as shown in the photos below. However, once the print is matted and framed, it presents quite nicely.
