Huge Rare S. Friedman~ Antique Oak Roll Top Desk! 59" Wide
This is such a rare& beautiful piece of furniture. I purchased it from an elderly lady in Edmonds WA that had had the desk most of her life. Her story was that the desk had served in the Washington state capitol building. she had a paper(see photo) with a few of the details typed up. I have kept that paper with the desk since I bought in in 1989. Crafted by S. Friedman Cabinet Company of Indianapolis The dimensions are 50.5 x 34 x 59. It is larger than normal. The desk is made in two parts and is solid Oak with original patina. The desk measures 53" wide x 45 3/4" tall x 30" deep. The top has the S roll top- no splits. Working order, and lock with number on it. Inside are eleven cubby holes. Two small pencil drawers, two standard drawers, Ink Stamp Rack, Double pedestal bottom; each pedestal consists of three small drawers(22 1/8”L x 11”Wx9”D) and one file drawer. Two pull out writing surfaces fit between the top piece and bottom pedestals. Each drawer has a iron hook stop on the back and are put together with dovetail construction. Untitled Document Two Antique Roll Top Desk Nightstands 1940s These two roll top desks can be used as desks or nightstands. They have had very limited use as they have been in the guest room. Two appraisers agreed that this style originated from the 1920s. But based on the design and canvas used as a backing for the roll top, it is very likely that they were built in the 1940s. Under the roll top is a writing surface with 4 small open compartments and one large compartment. One of the drawers was missing all parts except for the front of the drawer. That drawer was rebuilt using similar wood and the design of the period to match the other drawer. No glues were used on the rebuilt drawer to match the construction of the first drawer. One of the backs was replaced before we received them. The unit with the replacement back has a top that sticks. ... moreWe believe the back was originally removed to correct this. Large, Unique, Vintage Roll Top Desk
This is a custom Cutler Desk made in Buffalo. NY. I bought it in Portland OR about 30 years ago, I was told it was custom made for an attorney. It has 50 slots accessed by a slide system which is believe in unique to Cutler Desks. The mahogany slides move left and right to access the slots.The interior has the 50 slots, two drawers and two pencil/pen drawers.It has desk lock and key. The roll works perfectly and it has raised panels. The back is not finished and needs go against a wall. I have down sized homes and no longer have room for the desk. It is in my garage and needs a new home. The desk 60 inches wide and tall and very heavy.

A cylinder or"barrel" shaped roll top desk is solid oak with a pull out writing surface of natural saddle leather. The deep finish is in excellent condition. Accenting the hand carved vine motif on the back gallery. Brass pulls and mounts are original on this American made furniture. A cylinder or"barrel" shaped roll top desk is solid oak with a pull out writing surface of natural saddle leather. The warm brown finish is in excellent condition. Accenting the hand carved incised designs. Brass pulls and mounts are original on this American made furniture. The roll top is curly elm burl and glides smoothly, inside is a tiny drawer and cubicles for papers. Sides are paneled, the lower door has a raised panel and working lock. This fine desk measures 45 1/2 inches in height to the top of the gallery at the back.Height to the top at the front measures 46 inches, with a total width of 48 inches, total depth of 26 inches and this desk weighs approximately 200 lbs. The pull out writing surface measures 41 inches wide by 21 inches deep and height from the floor to the top of the writing surface measures 30 inches. The knee hole height of the desk portion measures 25 1/4 inches and knee-hole width measures 18 3/4 inches. ... moreThe cylinder portion of this desk raises and lowers very smoothly and has a large brass lock mechanism on the bottom which is marked: Indianapolis Cab. Co Pat. The lock is intact but we do not have the key. The inner desk portion is beautiful maple with a multitude of various sizes of storage drawers and cubbies.The old green felt on the pull out writing surface appears original and does show some wear and some spots. The left offers a stack of four storage drawers with period dove-tailed ends and the original pulls. To the right another drawer is found with a storage cabinet below. The lock is missing from the cabinet door. As you can see in the pictures this desk could easily be in the center of a room for it is as lovely on the back as the front and is finished beautifully all the way around. This Victorian Eastlake cylinder roll desk circa 1880 is in fabulous antique condition. Beautiful late 19th C Continental oak marquetry miniature desk / roll top
I called this a(miniature) desk for want of knowing what else to label it. But regardless of its purpose, the marquetry here is absolutely incredible. Not only are the drawer faces done with great detail, but the roll top itself is sections so as to be marquetry as well. something I've never seen before. As for dimensions, its 16 1/4" high, 12 1/2" wide and 6 3/8" deep at the base. The construction, moreover, is all wood pegs. no nails. There are though two apologies. First, there's some missing inlay at both ends of the top board(see my last picture) and more seriously, the veneer along one edge of the roll case needs restoration in the form of both adding some wood and then matching marquetry veneer(see my 11th picture) In any event, there is no reserve, but buyer pays $16 for USPS domestic shipping.

Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. This listing offers the child's roll top desk. Since I'm uncertain of the age. I won't mislead anyone. I was told it was late 19th century, but again, please judge from the pictures. Hinges, Hardware ~ Circa 1890-1900 Unit Measures 50” x 43 ½” x 26” ~ Stored in Smoke-Free Home This is a once-restored antique oak roll-top watchmaker’s or jeweler’s bench from between the 1890’s or 1900 or so. It is in very good condition and shows normal wear and tear for it’s age—over a decade—100 plus years. As shown in the photos. There are also some surface scratches, dings, paint speckles, and staining on the canvas catch cloth. This lovely watchmaker’s bench has nine drawers. Two deep cabinets or cupboards with doors, two drop down oak sides, and a canvas catch drawer. All original drawer pulls, hooks, hinges, hardware, and the canvas catch are intact and fully functioning. The roll-top piece ... moreworks well, rolls easily, and engages a set of drawer locks when closed. We do not have a key. The unit measures 50” H x 43 ½” W x 26” D. Workbench height is 39” from the ground. All wood is solid oak. This bench has a tambour shaped roll-top that completely covers the work area when closed. Each side drops down by unhooking hooks to provide an even larger tabletop surface which measures 60” across. One of the cupboard enclosures was specifically designed to house watchmaking and jeweler’s tools; the other enclosed the flywheel for the treadle. Very good overall condition, This exquisite flame mahogany bureau was hand-crafted in the Netherlands around 1780. Over the centuries. The mahogany has developed a beautiful patina, so that it now displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain. As fine as this exquisite wood appears, ... morethe design itself is also quite striking: the barrel top lifts up automatically as the desktop is pulled out. The interior of the desk thus reveals a series of drawers and a satinwood-striped cabinet door that opens to reveal yet another drawer. Brass pulls adorn each of the exterior drawers, which feature hand-cut dovetails and a key is included which locks the drawers. Although this bureau or"cylinder desk" remains very sturdy and astonishingly beautiful, it has sustained some surface wear, most of which is extremely minimal given the great age of this piece. Both sides have begun developing small wood separations, as has the desktop, while the very top of the bureau has sustained significant scratches. One of the pulls has also lost its ring. Overall condition therefore remains very good. This cylinder desk contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. The top has sustained some significant scratches. The desk offers a gorgeous work area. This pull has lost its small brass ring. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails. adorable little child's roll-top desk.c 1920's.in Oak! this has original finish.and it's in nice condition.GREAT patina to the golden hued oak.and no broken parts.the only small condition issue.is that when the roll top is closed there is a small gap(about 2 inches) at the top(see pic number 4)it appears that a couple of the oak 1/2 round pieces are missing. 1884 Roll Top Desk with Corbin Cabinet Lock(CCL. RollTop) Excellent heavy wood. Locking roll top desk. The top rolls over the open desk and locks with a key; doing so also locks the top drawer as well. The lock is made by CCL(Corbin Cabinet Lock) they've been around since the 1800's. It is a two piece unit; the roll top desk area can be separated simply by lifting it from it's base(drawer area) It's also easy to move around due to base mounted wheels. There are far more than enough'cubbyholes' for all your knickknacks; including three rarely found vertical side slots(1@ 17" 2@ 8 1/2" There are two small drawers and dual pen holders in this area as well(see photos) The desk top surface area has wooden bumper guards at both sides. The base leg/feet area is of a'closed architecture' type(as opposed to ... morean open back style; see photos) and sports 8 drawers with 2 hidden sleeves on either side that you pull to extend(~18" The desk top itself has various glass/cup ring stains(see photos) There is a two piece spring loaded internal mechanism which serves to prevent the top from moving around. One of these pieces has come loose(part is included) and looks to be fairly easy to repair. Even still. It's function is basically unnecessary, due to the weight of the roll top(it won't be moving/sliding around) Being internal, this mishap is entirely hidden from any viewpoint angle. One of the four wheels is missing. The framework of this wheel is still intact, but the'wheel' itself is not there. The other three wheels are fine; the desk can still be easily moved around by the remaining three. The only history on this desk that I could dig up was from the previous owners that say it was owned by their friends Great Grandfather; a North Carolina abolitionist politician who also apparently wrote books. You are bidding on one of the most outstanding original late 1800's S curved rolltop desks that I have seen in quite some time. Let me start by saying that this desk has been professionally restored to it's original grandeur.There are lovely raised panels everywhere. Even the inside of the opening for the desk chair. Please take a look at the photos, which by the way, don't come close to doing this desk justice. The S roll of the desk is supurb. The inside of all the drawers look as good as the two you see in the picture. Also, the bottom right hand drawer looks like two small thin drawers but is actually one deep drawer for added convenience. Every drawer has dovetailing for added strength. The color is wonderful, a warm medium oak color. The pigeon holes are exceptional. There is nothing to hide with this desk. A beautiful antique roll top desk in great condition for the age. This desk measures 48.25" high at the back center. It has a width of 49.5" and a depth of 31.5" The kneehole height is 27.25" to the bottom of the cross board and the width is 29" The bottom section of the desk has four small drawers on the right side with a pullout writing surface above it. The right side has two small drawers above a larger file drawer. The divider board in this drawer is broken. There is also a pullout writing surface abov this bank of drawers. Only one of the other six drawers has a divider section in it. The remaining pieces are missing. There is a locking mechanism on the bottom section. It is a little sticky. All of the drawers have decorative fan style handles made from wood. The top section has various sized cubbies and only ... moreone drawer. There are two pencil trays that hang at the center and the section above these trays pulls out to reveal hidden trays as well. The roll top on this is in great condition and slides up and down smoothly. This section also locks with the original key. There is a vintage metal pencil sharpener attached to the top right side of this. There are age and use appropriate imperfections. Scratches, dings, and dents on this that enhance the character. There is what appears to be an inkk stain on the top and there is also some stains in the drawers. There is also age darkening to the wood.
