Victorian side board imported from England and dating back to circa 1875. Used in libraries and reading rooms of the era. Elegant tapered and carved columns show off the bottom. Register with bold tripled molding. The front of each lower door is beautifully carved on burl panels. The original locks are present and there are three original keys. Dating to the late 1800's. On top sits an impressive large bookcase with glass ... moreinsets and three shelves used for books or dishes. All are in fantastic original condition. Combine all of this with the paneled sides and burl insets and carving to create an elegant piece of furniture. This piece is in solid. Sturdy condition with aged patina and only some minor age appropriate wear and flaws. Total measurements: 88" tall x 58" across and 23" deep. Top piece: 52" high. 55" across, 15" deep. It has three shelves with plate indents in the back. The shelves are adjustable all the way from bottom to top. The bottom piece is 36" high. 58" across, 23" deep. The front drops down to display green felt on the base and storage in the back all of which could be used as a writing table or for sorting dishes and flatware- green felt has some marks- see pictures. The bottom doors open and has"saw tooth. There are no shelves for the bottom piece. I haven't seen them during the 45 years that mom had the piece. "Library Bureau Makers" Antique Librarian Desk
This desk came from the New Castle Public Library in New Castle. PA. I do not know if it is POST 1950 or PRE 1950. I am researching it currently, but I have in listed as POST 1950 for now. This desk is in very good condition and it has been very well cared for. I believe it is Tiger Oak as you can see in the photos. The desk is very heavy for its size. Heavy. Original, signed set of antique cast iron metal bookends depicting a gnome seated on the floor of a library in front of a beautifully detailed bookcase. This set was made by Bradley and Hubbard in the 1920's. They are very rare, high quality, very heavy, and, humorous. They typify the quality of workmanship which makes Bradley and Hubbard among the most collectible of all metal arts companies. The detailing is exquisite. It features those Gorgeous Cabriole legs that are carved plus it includes the cross bars at the base. Accented with a finial in the middle. This is a very old piece and as a result the Table top did not last and has been replaced with a new piece of wood. The Table top is painted the same color as the base and it is difficult to tell that is was replaced. The Carvings on the entire piece are hand painted in gold gilt. Original Antique Tiger Oak Arts& Crafts Mission Oak Library Table Desk with one drawer and shelves on sides. Very nice grain pattern and color. Good used condition. I will describe condition as best as possible and have taken many pictures which show every side of item. PLEASE NOTE- white spots on desk in photos are fresh snowflakes that just started to fall. Desk is stored indoors but photos were taken while moving the desk. Measurements: Approx. 29-1/4" in height. 44" wide at widest part Table Top measures 27-3/4" x 43-7/8" 22" from floor to bottom of drawer legs are 6" wide outside edge of leg to outside edge of other leg approx. 36" shelves on sides have opening approx. 11" high x 24-1/4" wide from floor to bottom of cross pieces between legs is approx. 5-7/8" Handle pulls are original ... moreto desk and could easily be changed as one has a screw through front of knob while other is entirely wood front.
