It's a huge desk. The kind used by an accountant/banker back in the day I should think. There's debate over it's age: i think it's probably 40's/50's, someone else thinks it's 30's- it's got a certain wartime feel about it. Who knows. I'm moving from my large studio where it has served me well since it was gifted to me a couple of years ago, but it's too big for my new place. Antique Oak Tole Painted Shabby Chic Slant Front Desk w/ Gallery Shelf This is a very solidly build heavy oak slant front desk that has been painted in the tole fashion. The desk was originally a slant front desk but someone somewhere along the line decided to modify it with ships so that the writing surface was flat. This is a very solid and heavy piece of furniture with the boards used to construct it being 3/4 of an inch thick of solid oak and the legs are up to an 1 1/2 thick of solid oak. The styling and heavy construction lead me to believe this is quite old. I would estimate 1880's. The paint is a newer modification though i am not sure when it was done. Judging from the age of the modification to make the desk flat I would estimate 1930's or 40's. The desk is in very good condition but it does have some wear and damage. ... moreThere are some chips in the paint along one edge where the modifications are and there is a chip in the right foot but it has long been painted over. This is one beautiful and rare tiger oak roll top desk. You don't find them without the drawers on the lower underside. This has all the bells and whistles. There is 4 file card drawers. 2 stationary drawers, pen holders, slots on the sides to hold papers, Large storage drawer on the lower and 2 smaller drawers on the lower left and 2 pull out trays. This is a nice oak partners desk in good condition and ready to use. See photos. I believe it is from the 1940s or 1950s. The top is level and smooth. The sides are nice quarter sawn. It breaks down into three pieces. The top and two drawer towers. This should really help for pick up. One drawer on each side is a deeper file drawer. This is a really exceptional quartersawn oak executive style flat top desk. Please note the high quality quartering in the oak used. Piece has been refinished and has a smooth and even finish-strong and sturdy; ready for your office or home. Fine raised panels on all three sides. Note the two pull outs. The carved drawer pulls, and the beveled edge top surface. Both of the drawers pillars are curved convex drawers-very handsome. This is a desk several cuts above the average antique desk.
