Condition: Used Location: Novato, United States I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite ... morelike it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Every surface shows hand planing marks on this classic and functional furniture. The beautifully figured one-board drop front rests on pull out supports. Lock and key work. Inside are tiny drawers with exquisite dovetail joints and compartments for papers- old India ink stains show this was a working desk. Brasses appear original on lower hand dovetailed drawers with chamfered bottoms. The bottom drawer has a warp, also there are numerous shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Above the lock is a charming old hand cut repair. The old finish has warm patina and is quite well preserved. Newly waxed and polished. It needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. But this is the only double secretary by him like this one i have ever seen. maybe i have not been at the right place or right time and you may own 20 of them, but this is the only one i have seen and therefore i believe it to be a very rare model. at any rare it is a great piece, original finish as you can see the finish is crazing a good bit. the grain and color of the piece is great with a great patina so i would not recommend stripping it under any circumstance. as you see hopefully the secondaries are birdseye maple which about every mahogany horner piece i have has ... morebirdseye. my camera is old, i am old and the pictures suck. they are too dark and do not show the huge lions head in the top well nor the standing griffins under the drop front. the top drawer is contoured serpentine top to bottom and the two lower drawers concave end to end. the freeze(sp) at the top and sides is contoured serpentine top to bottom and there is a neat scroll over the top of the big griffin on top with carved ends. there are ionic twisted columns on either side of the curved glass upper door compartment. the piece at the top and bottom has great lines and form concave forms in the center of the top and bottom sections. everything original as far as i know including hardware. i have owned this piece many years and it cost a pretty penny way back when. the best i remember, it has inventory nos. on the back and it used to have a piece of an r j horner paper label on the back. i have not looked at its back for longer than many of you have been alive and it is too full and heavy for me to move to check if it is still there, however, i guarantee it to be r j horner at his finest. it is quite heavy. when i moved it years ago i struggled, doubtful i can budge it now. it h

The desk is approx. 85" high by 37" wide by 20" deep and has a cornice with dentil molding over the bookcase section which features original glass and adjustable shelves. The lower section has a pull out desk with fitted interior over three graduated drawers, all on straight bracket feet. The finish is old, possibly original. The hardware is period but is probably not original. There have been at least two different sets of hardware on the piece over the years. This is the proper style for the piece though two of the back-plates are different than the rest. From research I have done on the Internet I believe that this is an antique mahogany Chippendale style secretary bookcase with drop down desk and claw and ball feet. There are three shelves on the upper bookcase with original glass door. It has four drawers below the drop off desk. It is in excellent condition. Everything in its original state. There is one key for the bookcase. This has been in my mother's home for as long as I can remember. There are no labels on the back. A few nicks and wear marks add character to the wood, although there are not many and they are mostly concentrated around the base, which is normal for a piece of this age. The secretary has original brass hardware. It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret work over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 3 drawers. The desk is 30.25" wide, 37" high, and 14.5" deep(from drawer) When opened, the writing surface is 27.5" from the floor. It features original brass hardware, a single pull-out drawer beneath the desk, and six compartments inside to store letter, bills, etc. I estimate the age of this piece to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition as indicated in the Condition description. There are some light scratches and cup marks as pictured. for auction is a nice antique mahogany curved glass secretary or side by side with claw feet. it is pierced carved in a couple of places and deeply carved on the crest and drop front which makes the writing surface of the desk part of the piece. it has the original wavy glass in the door and the original beveled glass mirror which is in good condition for its age. Only a minor amount of cloudiness and very minimal silver loss. it has a nice set of cubbies and the drop front when down lies level. it has a drawer below the drop front and a door below the drawer which opens into a large storage area. it has a nice contoured crest and has a small shelf above the secretary section. inside the curved glass door are four original shelves that sit level on their original holders. it is in very good antique condition with no missing parts or pieces. ... morei cleaned it with new life and polished it with liquid gold. it is 73 inches tall, 39 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. it was made circa 1890-1900. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. good luck.

Up for your consideration is a Wonderful Secretarial desk. With the Flint& Horner label on the back of this fine furniture. We place the date of this beautiful desk between, 1915 and the 1930's. giving this piece some serious history considering its origin is New York and its now on the West coast. This Excellent Secretarial Desk has 3 Skeleton key holes and 1 original Barrel skeleton key that comes with it. It has very few scratches. One on the left edge of the desk table, a very small ding on the 4th drawer to the right side center and a small scrape on the base just below the 4th drawers right handle. His inspirations drew upon an a wide variety of patterns and themes, which to name a few were.caryatids, winged gargoyles, northwind faces, cherubs, man-of-the-mountain, and winged griffins. Later in Life. In 1915. R.J. Horner merged his business with another inspired furniture producer, George Flint to form Horner and Flint though neither were officers of the company. Horner retired at the time of the merger but his son, Robert Horner Jr. managed the business for at least another year. Contemporary ANTIQUE Art Nouveau DROP FRONT DESK / SECRETARY + BENCH Mahogany
1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. Here is a fantastic original circa late 1700's English solid oak desk with gorgeous figured mahogany. The mahogany may have been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when mahogany became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. Early Victorian Empire crotch mahogany and burl walnut cylinder roll secretary It has a molded cornice above glass cabinet book case with three shelves that are easily moveable There is a center drawer with a cylinder roll secretary desk right above and a pull out desk top. There are two small drawers and compartments within. Two lower left side drawers and one small right cabinet. Circa 1830's In quite good antique condition.
