Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original ... morebeauty. Originally crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century and altered during the first quarter of the 20th Century. It was probably a more plain version of the rather fine piece we see today. Altered to suit the appetite for high-style pieces during the first quarter of the 20th Century. Crafted of mahogany veneers with pine and oak secondaries, the case features two over three graduated drawers with replaced brasses over bold oversized bracket feet. The slant front drops over original hinges to rest on extending lopers, revealing a large mahogany writing surface with six document drawers over two long-thin drawers flanked on either ... moreside by an inverted graduated stack of drawers- this is a rather unusual feature, the graduation going from largest on the top to smallest on the bottom. From research I have done on the Internet I believe that this is an antique mahogany Chippendale style secretary bookcase with drop down desk and claw and ball feet. There are three shelves on the upper bookcase with original glass door. It has four drawers below the drop off desk. It is in excellent condition. Everything in its original state. There is one key for the bookcase. This has been in my mother's home for as long as I can remember. There are no labels on the back. The only problem that I see is the center decoration on top is loose. There are no other outstanding problems. This is local pick-up only or you may arrange for shipping. Adjustable shelves for books or displaying glassware. This top part of the cabinet is removeable. The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. When I saved old ink wells and antique books it was set up as a victorian desk and bookcase complete with inkwell and quill pen. When I wanted to use it(as it is shown) to display my green depression glass, the glass shelves displayed that beautifully. It is a solid oak piece with all the original hardware and original beveled mirror. We did add the glass shelves. They were missing when we purchased this piece many years ago. It has a drop leave desk that hides all the little cubbies and small drawer. There is a storage closet and a larger drawer under the drop leave desk. We have the original key and it still works. It works fine on the glass door that encloses the glass shelves and it also works fine on the drawer under the desk top. The mechanism is missing to lock the large door under the desk top. The piece is numbered with"172" carved into the wood inside the large storage area under the desk top. There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. With the original wavy glass still intact. ... moreAll flame mahogany, and all we’ve done is oiled it, polished it up a bit, and put some new felt on. Other than that, it’s all original, dating from the 1850s era. It has all the original hand-chamfered backboards on it. It starts with an ogee molded crown top, and has two beautiful wavy glass doors with two shelves inside, two hand-cut dovetail drawers, a flip down flame mahogany matched veneer lid that opens to reveal a green felt writing surface, which we have replaced, and pencil trays on the side. The top drawer opens to support the writing surface. Below that are two more large drawers with wooden knobs and traditional elephant style scroll feet. The overall size is 43.5 inches wide on the base, 21 inches deep, 32 inches high to the writing surface, and an unusually tall 83 inches high overall. It’s in mind-boggling condition for a piece this old. There only minor chips here and there, and it has an amazing patina. This desk comes in two sections for transport.
