They've been in air conditioned storage since that time. These were commonly used by the medical profession. They are rare. That's for sure. The finish of the paint is still in remarkable condition, though they still need a thorough cleaning. Many of the pictures show the shiny surface of the paint, which was manufactured by DuPont. The metal surface was prepared and sprayed with a rust proofer by the Parker Rust Proof Co, with their product called Bonderite. From the"How to care for SIMMONS FURNITURE guide" SIMMONS FURNITURE protected and enhanced with Du Pont satin-finished HI-BAKE DULUX. SIMMONS Steel furniture is specially finished with Hi-Bake DULUX for outstanding beauty and durability. DULUX is an exceptionally hard finish with excellent moisture resistance that protects against rust or corrosion. With proper care. SIMMONS furniture remains beautifully new for years. Overall condition is good. The drawers are in good condition. With the top drawers showing a little rust on the inside. The second drawer down has only a small amount of rust showing, and the bottom drawer shows no rust. The drawer guides could use some graphite to restore the smooth fluid movement of opening and closing. Each piece has it's own forgivings. I tried my best to display in detail the extent of the abrasions. Dents and scratches. Examine the pictures carefully. If you need larger pics, or perhaps a different view, contact me and I'll send you the requested pics asap. The footstool's fabric is intact- no rips. Tears, holes or cracks and the material is soft and pliable. Someone removed what appears to be shipping tape- and that managed to remove some of the color in a small area which is more noticeable in the pictures than in person. Antique Australian Cedar Clerks Desk Stand Up Ipad Rest table Tablet 1880's This amazing Clerk's desk is Around 130- 140 years old and is made of the Australian timber known as red Australian Cedar or Red Gold. Its former botanical name was Toona Australis now Toona Ciliata. It is a timber rich in virtues. Scented, soft to the touch, easy to work, resistant to insect and fungal attack, it was the preferred timber for the cabinet making industry until the last of the great stands of trees were cut down at the turn of the century. This is one of the nicest examples of a clerks desk i have seen. They are coming into their own these days with the invention of the touchscreen computer they make the ideal stand up desk and Ipad rest. This one measure 795mm wide across the top. 640mm deep, 292mm high at the back and 212mm high at the front. It has an excellent slop ideal for writing on or resting your touch screen tablet on. The two drawers at the front are partitioned internally and ideal for keeping those pesky accessories in. The rear section underneath is capacious and provides the type of storage much lacking in a modern desk. It is in excellent condition with the kind of patination that you would expect from 140 years of use. It has a couple of spots where it has been gouged and repaired with the appropriate colour putty. it all adds to the charm and fascination of the piece. It has no legs so it is ideal for placing on an existing table to elevate it to stand up height. Commercially available stand up desks are expensive. They lack style but they are very ergonomic. Antique Weis 6 Drawer Wooden Flat File Cabinet Desk Counter Top Document
Circa 1910 Weis document file cabinet for a desk or countertop. Has it's original mahogany finish(though I think the wood is actually birch) By this time in our country's manufacturing age cabinet woods were starting to get pricey. Furniture manufacturers were starting to use veneers and stains to simulate more expensive solid wood. The start of the Industrial Age to 1910 saw the diminishment of our great forrest stands of timber. This cabinet boasts it's original label on the top as well as original file drawer pulls. The drawers fronts have light finish loss. Please use the magnify feature to see this. Luckily none of the previous owners used any type of permanent paper in the file slots inside the drawer pulls. The inside bottom of all of the drawers have a hole so that legal documents could be stored that took up all of the ... moredrawers interior volume. You would pull the drawer open and insert your finger underneath and up through the hole to lift the pile of documents so that you just slide off the amount that you needed without wrinkling the documents. This cabinet measures 10 1/2" tall. 9 13/16" wide and 15 7/8" deep including the drawer pulls. The drawers measure 1" deep, 8 5/8" wide and 14 1/4" deep. The drawer measurements are the usable interior dimensions. The drawers are for the most part are very clean with just one of them having a small amount of dry residue. The drawers do not have any odor. The exterior of the cabinet is of fingerjoint construction with the inerior drawers being nailed. The exterior joints are very solid. The cabinet has various light scratches and some pinpoint paint drips. The top has a very small area of finish loss. The sides near the front of the cabinet have some slight finish loss as well. Facing the cabinet, it's right side has some finish loss along the bottom edge. This same side has a tight crack about 1 1/2" long coming up from the bottom. it is not very noticeable. The desk stands on stunning turned, reeded legs, and has three drawers on each side, and a large central drawer. Each drawer front features ornate carving around the escutcheon. The raised attitional drawer bank is a wonderful feature and consists of two smaller side drawers and a wider central drawer. There are two original keys for the desk, though locks have seized up over time. This is a large and impressive piece! The desk itself measures 137cm wide. 84cm deep and 75cm high. The overall height extends to 101.5cm including the detachable drawers on the top. This gorgeous desk is scarce. And has character and charm in abundance! The piece is constructed of deep. Mellow oak timbers, and has such a wonderful, aged patina. Definitely antique, we would date this beautiful desk to c1880. The desk is beautifully proportioned. And has the elegance and style so often associated with quality made French pieces. The desk has a turned ... morestretcher base and turned legs. It has four drawers- a long central drawer, 2 small drawers and a double, fitted drawer. The desk is finished front and back, so can be placed against a wall, or be free-standing. The back and sides feature applied panels with decorative carved friezes. There is also decorative carving, strong and bold, to the edge if the desk and to the drawer fronts- Love it! This is a highly functional medium-size desk with a generous desk surface. Overall. The desk measures 130cm wide, 70cm deep and is 76cm high. Importantly, the kneehole is generous, and would be suitable for most adults, male or female. It measures 60.5cm high and 47.5cm wide. This attractive desk presents in very good antique condition. And there are no significant structural defects. The timber of the desk is solid oak which has that highly desirable aged appearance, and an old split to the surface, repaired. As with all quality antique and vintage furniture, age-appropriate wear and character marks should be expected. This is a truly lovely piece of furniture. You see few like this one!
