HUGE Desk w/ numerous drawers& a truly breathtaking amount of space. Stamp drawers, storage space for paper stock. Envelopes, and larger items, hidden sliding pen drawers at corners. Envelope brackets at back and sides of desktop. See photos. Desktop is 50" wide and desk is 32" deep and +/ 49" high. This Cutler-style desk is a beautiful vintage artifact that is still in perfect working condition and would make a handsome centerpiece to any study or home-office. Canvas underside of rolltop is intact. Supple and flexible. Two beautiful ornate vintage keys in place to lock rolltop. This desk feels comfortably well used but shows none of the negative effects of that over-a-century of use. Richly waxed finish still shines and shows off the handsome grain of the wood. Interiors of drawers are unwaxed and some drawer interiors exhibit the marks and ink-stains of that long tenure of use. But all drawers slide easily and smoothly, the same way the rolltop rolls open and closed. Any hesitation on any drawer is easily rectified with a gentle stroke of a bar of soap on the drawer-rail. Rolltop key-locks with a lovely practical key and the cleverly designed interior mechanism of the desk locks the drawers shut when the roll-top is down. It has a width of 49.5" ... moreand a depth of 31.5" The kneehole height is 27.25" to the bottom of the cross board and the width is 29" The bottom section of the desk has four small drawers on the right side with a pullout writing surface above it. The right side has two small drawers above a larger file drawer. The divider board in this drawer is broken. There is also a pullout writing surface abov this bank of drawers. Only one of the other six drawers has a divider section in it. The remaining pieces are missing. There is a locking mechanism on the bottom section. It is a little sticky. All of the drawers have decorative fan style handles made from wood. The top section has various sized cubbies and only one drawer. There are two pencil trays that hang at the center and the section above these trays pulls out to reveal hidden trays as well. The roll top on this is in great condition and slides up and down smoothly. This section also locks with the original key. There is a vintage metal pencil sharpener attached to the top right side of this. There are age and use appropriate imperfections. Scratches, dings, and dents on this that enhance the character. There is what appears to be an inkk stain on the top and there is also some stains in the drawers. There is also age darkening to the wood. This antique Marshall Field's roll top is in good condition. I know that this piece originally came from the Marshall Fields headquarters before it shut down and then was sold to a Merrill Lynch executive. There are signs of wear on the corners and the legs from a desk chair but is in very good condition overall for being nearly 100 years old. All drawers open and close smoothly. And so does the roll top. You are bidding on one of the most outstanding original late 1800's S curved rolltop desks that I have seen in quite some time. Let me start by saying that this desk has been professionally restored to it's original grandeur.There are lovely raised panels everywhere. Even the inside of the opening for the desk chair. Please take a look at the photos, which by the way, don't come close to doing this desk justice. The S roll of the desk is supurb. The inside of all the drawers look as good as the two you see in the picture. Also, the bottom right hand drawer looks like two small thin drawers but is actually one deep drawer for added convenience. Every drawer has dovetailing for added strength. Standard Furniture Co. Mode l#111 made in the early 1900's.The company name and model# is stamped on the bottom of the center drawer. Also inside the center drawer is the company logo featuring an eagle. All parts work perfectly and all locks accessible. We do not have keys for these locks) When the top is closed, the side drawers are locked. At some point, the desk was carefully refinished and minor repairs were done. Beautiful Vintage Antique Marked FB Rogers Silverplate Lion Rolltop Butter Holder Server Bowl 273. This beautiful server is marked under the bowl:Trade Mark with FB Rogers Silver Co and the crown logo. 18 on one side, 83 on the other for the date of FB Rogers' inception(1883) It has no style marking; perhaps precedes style markings, but it is identical to style 273. Lion heads on the top of its three legs, 3-toed lion claws on its feet. Stylized fur from head to foot, the lion heads are surrounded by two pretty flower symbols on either side. The bowl is appx. an inch and a half in depth. The rolling cover is appx. 2" in height, with simple ornate design on its easy-to-grasp handle. A lovely round ledge, to which the feet are attached, is decorated on its round outer edge with lovely embossed repeating shorter and longer lines. The ... moretop half of the rolling lid is embossed with graduating sized scallops. A 1" in diameter flat spot on the top of the lid between the scallops is perfect for the etched initials of the family who owns this lovely piece of silverplate, a lovely wedding gift idea. The rolling hinges create a smooth easy movement. Because the lid is deeper than the bowl itself, it fits neatly underneath the bowl when opened for easy access by a spoon or knife. The overall dimensions are approximately 55 inches wide. 51 inches tall, and 35 inches deep. The writing surface is approx. 32 inches high. The upper storage area consists of 10 drawers and 18 cubicles. The lower storage area has 9 drawers with the center drawer having its own key. Vintage Antique Mahogany Rolltop Desk by Derby Desk Company
This Roll-top desk is a Fine antique. Solid mahogany manufactured by Derby Desk Company Boston, Massachusetts. The desk lock is by Corbin cabinet lock company with a patent date Dec 16, 1884. I think the desk is approximately 1920, but I've gotten that from looking at other desks and growing up with other antique furniture. The size is 50" wide by 33 1/2" deep by 50 1/2" tall. It has the S type tambour roll. After the roll top is open. The side panel guides have locks that when released, allow the hinged sides to swing out of the way. All the cubbyholes, drawers and hardware are original and in good condition. The desk has raised panel sides and back including back of kneehole, with none missing. HISTORY: I bought the desk from a Mr. Harmon in Phoenix 1998 and have a receipt in the desk that Mr. Harmon bought it from his ... morefather Nathaniel P. Harmon in April 1980 in Jaffrey New Hampshire. The senior Mr. Harmon bought the desk from the original owner 40 years previous. Who was from Boston, Massachusetts. He left a stogie burn on the top of the desk, which somebody partially rubbed out, and now it's called a character mark. I thought of doing an overall staining, touch up and polishing, but decided not to, pending what a buyer might want to do if anything. This desk has been in a smoke free house since 1998. Rare Antique-- Rand & Avery Co. ROLLTOP Gun cabinet
This unique roll-top(or roll-front. To be more exact) gun cabinet originates from the Rand, Avery& Co. printing house in Boston, MA. The printing house handled sequentially-numbered railway tickets for the Boston& Maine railroad for years. A fire in 1872 caused the relocation, and this piece probably dates from the period 1872-1889, when the Rand, Avery& Co. was finally auctioned. As clearly seen in the pictures. The following aspects will need to be restored: 1. Top shelf(barrel rack) is broken. But can be restored. 2. Top vertical roll-up panel(front) is intact. But moves up and down with some resistance, probably due to the back panel being bowed in. Can be restored without much difficulty. 3. Back panel is bowed in(possibly from water damage? and out of the rabbeted grooves. I have not forced it back because a full resotoration ... morewould require removing one side and regluing the panel into its tracks. 4. Top finial(center) is missing a chipped out section. Would need minor reshaping to retain original design symmetry. Aside from these three areas which need restoration. The gun cabinet is fully functional and intact. The bottom roll-up functions smoothly without effort. Can be used"as is" or restored for a perfected finish and function. Overall dimensions are 53" tall. 21" wide, and 13" deep at the deepest dimension. The following interested newspaper accounts detail the fire of 1872. And subsequent auction of the company. Boston Daily Globe. 21 Nov 1872: For the third time within ten days[The Great Boston Fire occurred on 8 Nov 1872] the citizens of Boston had their fears excited last evening by the prospect of an extensive conflagration. Paint all original and nearly flawless on the top and sides.it has a few spots that are hidden by the cap catcher but you wouldn't ever see them.but worth mentioning. The pictures do not do it justice. There are very light scratches on the top that would probably buff right out and a coupe of small rub marks where the strap rubbed on it moving it. This is very HEAVY! The unit cools down to 35 degrees.I think it might needs a new thermostat switch to cut off the freon, because the pump wants to run and the coil ices over. I plugged it in and after 1 hour no kidding it was 35 degrees I didnt want to hurt it so I unplugged it. Overall dimensions are 30" x 18" x 35-3/8" ht. Has 4 box cubbies(4" x 4-1/2" x 3-1/2" ht) and 2 horizontal cubbies(10-5/8" x 4-1/2" x 1-7/8" ht) The drawers have internal space of 7-1/4" x 13-1/2" x 5-1/8" ht. There's a nice metal finial to raise and lower the rolltop. Rolltop is felt-backed. Noteworthy details on the chair include the nice scrolls on the top of the back. And the wood peg joins on the seat. The seat also has tongue and groove joins. Chair is 14-1/4" x 13-3/4" x 35" ht.
