This fantastic Burl Walnut Victorian Slant Front Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top breaks down into two pieces for transport(bookcase top and bottom base with desk) is full of character, has many lovely design details and a spectacular warm finish. The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful crown moulding accented with lovely burl-clad scalloped moulding. Three raised horizontal burl panels are found beneath the crown moulding and additional vertical burl accents are found on the sides of the glass doors which are adorned with picture frame moulding. Elegant incised fan carvings accent the outside corners of these glass doors. There is an intact lock on the glass doors and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Three adjustable shelves that measure 37” long by 8 ½” deep provide display and storage opportunity. The elegance continues on the slant front desk door which is graced with a lovely large raised burl panel and has an intact lock with a decorative(non-working) key. You will notice that there are additional burl accents along on the sides of the desk door. This elegant slant front desk door opens to reveal a black felt writing surface with Greek Key trim along with five small birds-eye maple front drawers with wooden pulls and Knapp-joinery. There are light dings and one more noticeable ding on the front of the secretary where it drops down(see pics#10, 11) There are also a few tiny chips low on the front two feet and one chip on the very back side of the secretary top. It is not very noticeable when it is against the wall, unless you are looking at the back(see pic#12) The Ethan Allen name is stamped in the top drawer and the date as well as the item number are stamped on the back. Ethan Allen manufactures high quality investment grade furniture that can be passed down through generations. Very good overall condition, This gorgeous antique burl walnut secretaire was crafted in France around the year 1900. Today. This piece remains very beautiful, with a rich walnut complexion and a highly pronounced grain. The face is flanked by a set of carved columns that run the entire height of this piece, which ends with elegant bun feet. A total of 11 drawers and 1 interior cabinet provide a large amount of storage space, all under lock and key. The locks, however, are quite worn and operate with difficulty. The moulding has also sustained some wear, including a minor wood separation in the front and a filled-in missing piece in the back. Overall condition therefore remains very good. The flame mahogany displays a rich complexion ... moreand a striking grain that have only grown more beautiful over the years. In complement to the mahogany. Traditional satinwood fan inlay adorns the center of the fall. A few nicks and wear marks add character to the wood, although there are not many and they are mostly concentrated around the base, which is normal for a piece of this age. Meanwhile, a series of brass swan neck pulls adorn the drawer fronts. The desk area itself is inlaid with a rich writing surface of fine, brown leather bordered by gold tooling. As far as we can tell, this leather appears in the condition as other vintage leather samples that we’ve come across, so it is most likely original.
