Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original beauty. Some wooden back pieces shown in front. Need to be fixed to the back of the desk area and one more missing piece to make the back complete. Overall measurements: 63 ½” high 42 3\4" Wide 14 ½” deep The carved decorative top piece laying in front is shaped to hold a mirror which fits between the pieces and sits on the top of the desk area. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey. Antique ORNATE Carved BURLED Wood VICTORIAN PEDIMENT Secretary Door Hall Tree
Up for auction is this fabulous antique Victorian carved wood arched pediment being offered"as is as found" It is in wonderful condition, though some of the burled veneer is lifting and there is one spot on the top edge of the moulding where it meets the center piece that is chipped(as seen in photo 7) It is very ornately carved with exquisite details. The 2 drop turned finials on either side of the center medallion are intact. Not sure of the wood, it is thick and solid somewhat speckled with darker spots. Exhibits superb craftsmanship. Beautifully curved multi-layer moulding. The underneath has one dowel on the bottom and 2 holes on the other side where it sat on the original piece of furniture which is long gone. This is a Beautiful unique one of a kind leather top executive desk Made by Quigley. This desk is in great condition! Very rare to find the leather both on the top of the desk and on the 2 pull out trays on either side in great condition. The drawers all move in and out with ease. And the inside of all drawers are in great condition as the one you see in the picture. The front of the desk has four drawers on either side with a wide pencil drawer in top center and a leather top pull out tray on either end. The back of the desk has one top center secretary drawer and a cabinet door on either base end that opens up There is one handle on either outer side of the desk but the right side is missing the grab handle(see Pic) The only other thing to mention is on the front right side just below the top left drawer is a strip of wood missing(see pic) ... moreThe desk is very sturdy and comes apart in 3 pieces( left bottom 3 drawers. When I saved old ink wells and antique books it was set up as a victorian desk and bookcase complete with inkwell and quill pen. When I wanted to use it(as it is shown) to display my green depression glass, the glass shelves displayed that beautifully. It is a solid oak piece with all the original hardware and original beveled mirror. We did add the glass shelves. They were missing when we purchased this piece many years ago. It has a drop leave desk that hides all the little cubbies and small drawer. There is a storage closet and a larger drawer under the drop leave desk. We have the original key and it still works. Antique Circa 1890’s Oak Secretary– Secretariat with a glass front Hutch Cabinet and front drop desk. It is wonderfully Crafted using solid quarter saw oak. Its elegant hand carved ribbon and floral edging motif with a candle shelf and beveled glass mirror are an eye catcher. The cabinet is designed with five shelves; four of them are adjustable with the bottom stationary. The secretariat section is designed with a drop/ pulls down desk top. One drawer and a lower cabinet. The inside of the desk has a multi wooden slot organizer. It measures 69” high x 13 ¾” deep x 39 ¾” wide. All the doors and one drawer maintain their original locks. It is missing three of its front lock plates. The one drawer does have its original hardware. Two handles and one lock face. It maintains a warm aged oak finish. Antique Secretary Desk Beautiful Original Late 1800's to Early 1900's
This is a original antique secretary desk. It is a beautiful piece and in nice condition considering it's age. The original company sticker is inside the bottom drawer. It is the Udell Works company. This company built furniture in Indiana and Chicago. At different times. The company existed from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The wood grain is beautiful. It has a fold down top, two drawers, and space inside the fold down top for storage. There is a key hole lock but no key. The measurements are approximately 27-1/2 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 41 inches high. When the fold down is open for writing, it extends another 13 inches, which makes a total depth approximately 30 inches when opened. There are some stains inside the desk and one of the drawers and some fading of the wood. One of the interior small pieces of wood ... morefor holding pencils needs to be glued back on the underside of the small pull-out drawer.
