A wonderful visual accomplishment. This desk revives the Napoleonic tastes of the late 18th Century, in every way capturing the Neoclassical taste for clean lines and stoic structure juxtaposed with lavish ornamentation. Mounted with precisely executed brass and bronze hardware and embellishments, the desk is mutually reserved and royal. Crafted almost entirely by hand, this is a stunning and highly complex work, using gorgeous mahogany veneers to cover all visible surfaces of the desk. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower drawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. Antique French walnut mechanical inlaid ladie's desk. When the desk is closed there is an inlaid half wheel design. There is one piece of inlay missing. Closed 27" wide. 17" deep and 30" tall. When you slide the two sides to their full length is measures 51" wide. It has two small drawers on the inside, and one cubby hole above each drawer. It has the original leather writing surface. Antique Tiger Oak Desk, curved drawer fronts, Unusual, Vintage, French maybe
Antique Tiger Oak Desk This beautiful desk has been sitting in storage for 30 years. It looks really old. But I have no idea how old it is or where it came from. The number 126 is impressed into the underside of the desk, but I have found no other marks on it. There are 5 drawers on one side. And 5 false drawer fronts on the other. As you can see in the photos, 4 of the 5 drawer fronts are curved, and the drawer joints are dovetailed. There are keyholes in the drawers(no keyholes on the false fronts, see photo#1) All 5 drawer locks are present, but I do not have the key. I’m sure that the drawer pulls are not the originals, since the pulls on two of the drawers cover up the keyholes. All 4 caster wheels roll well. The wood grain is amazing. But there are several condition issues. Two of the boards that make up the desk top have separated(have ... morecome unglued) and some crazy person(not me) drove a couple of headless nails into the boards to hold them in place. The nail heads are double-circled in yellow in the last photo. When I flipped the desk over, I saw the nails coming through an inch or so. It looks like it would not be too difficult to push them out from the underside. Also, something was spilled on the top, maybe ink. The stain is circled in yellow. The four inside corners of the desk are banged up, due to being struck repeatedly by a chair. A yellow arrow points to the most seriously damaged corner. This is a beautiful French writing desk with brass ormolu trim, brass molded edge, and a tag in French that says ... moreit’s from France. It’s has ormolu trim on the top part of the legs, and on the bottom. It has three dovetail drawers, comes with a key, although we never guarantee the locks to work, but it does have one. The finish of the wood is cherry color, and I’m not really sure what kind of wood it is, although it may be yew. It does have some wormholes in it, that show that it came from overseas during that period, and which add lots of charm and character. It has a green gold tooling embossed leather top, border edge in brass, brass ormolu trim on the legs, and brass inlaid on all the drawer fronts. The overall size is 46 inches wide, 25 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. 17th Century French Antique Desk
Beautiful piece from 17th century France. Frame for mirror can be detached via hand carved wooden screws. Some work was done on one of the leg attachments with Gorilla glue. Not appropriate but fixable, and while mirror is not attached it would be easy to add hardware accessories. Color in pictures is not accurate, wood is a warm maple color and marble on desk top is a wonderful red rock color. Unique 17th Century French Secretary Drop Front Desk
What's the difference between an antique and a treasure? This is a museum quality piece of furniture with an amazing history! Comes from a Chateau in France that was built in 1316. This beautiful desk is at least 400 years old and survived a laceration from the Nazi's that confiscated the Chateau during World War II. This unique desk has a slant front with a beautiful marquetry floral design on the front. The wood appears to be walnut with several different fruit woods as a veneer. There are six drawers in the interior and a shelf above them for storage. There is a secret compartment in the center and locks within the secret area to lock the two drawers in front. The condition is very solid.there are several repairs made to the surface from the damage that was done. But the restoration was well done. A Lovely Vintage French Art Deco Marble Table Desk Lamp Light Spelter Figure This is a really lovely vintage French art deco table or desk lamp. Typical of the French art deco period. It has a marble base with cast metal/spelter? figures of two small birds. It has a patterned pink floral glass globe shade. It has a net weight of just over 2 kg before packaging. It takes a bayonet type light bulb which is not included in the sale. The base measures approximately 25cm x 9cm x 2cm The overall height is approximately 14cm Condition The glass shade is in good condition. Free from cracks and having no wear to the gilding and frosting. It does have a few minor surface marks which are only noticeable on close inspection. The spelter birds are in good condition having no damage and are securely fixed to the marble base. The marble base at some point ... morehas been broken at one end(just below the shade area) and it has been repaired very well. The crack blends in fairly well with the veining in the marble and is almost smooth to the touch. The underside of the marble has been recovered with some foil. This item is wired with 2 core cable and has a'Zeppelin' on/off switch located midway on the flex and has a French two pin plug. As you can see it is in working order but I would advise you to have it checked before use. I take great care with my packaging using bubble wrap. Poly chips and strong boxes. This auction is for a clock I picked up at a fleemarket some time ago. There's a SRF logo on the clockface but I do not know what it stands for. On the back there's a few Paris(France) addresses so I guess it is some kind of advertising clock.not sure though. The size is approx 11x11x5cm(4.3"x4,3"x2" Please check the photographes. The clock runs on AA batteries and works. But as the small knob to move the handles is missing I have not been able to check if the alarm works. Vintage 1928 CHELSEA CLOCK CO. BOSTON Bronze Desk Clock & French Barometer
192718 would date the clock to around 1928 or 1929. The visible portion of the clock face is about 2-1/2" in diameter. The case measures 7-7/16" wide x 4-3/8" deep x 2-13/16" high. The clock weighs 5.5 pounds. The clock is not running. The mainspring is broken. The winding key turns smoothly and clicks. But the broken spring can be felt slipping. The balance seems intact and turns smoothly in short arcs, but the second had does not move. I assume that there is a problem with the pallet fork or other part of the escapement. The barometer is marked MADE IN FRANCE. As you can see. The beveled front glass is cracked. It appears to work as it showed a pressure drop during a recent storm. There is a noticeable ding on the bezel of the clock as shown. The exterior of the clock is dirty and tarnished. I made no attempt to clean ... moreit beyond wiping it off with a soft cloth. The bronze case has a hand-stamped serial number that matches the clock. A clock collector that I showed this to said he wasn't sure that the case was actually made by Chelsea. He said that the case appears too crudely made, pointing out the hand stamped serial number, the slight grind marks made to let the winding key turn freely, the hand-cut appearance of the Fast-Slow slot, etc. I am not a Chelsea collector and you will have to be the judge of what you're bidding on.
