I went to a ... moregood auction in upstate New York the other day and tried to pick up smaller furniture that fits within Greyhound Express size limits. Anyway this is a score and I'm proud to offer this for your consideration. I believe this is a No 17 model desk and it is truly in very nice condition with no signs of repairs or break except the bottom drawer has a minor glue in corner. The finish is very good as the pictures should show off and the original key works fine and all hardware is original and working perfectly. It is nice and sturdy a sets flush with no wobbles. It measures 47" tall x 30" wide x 17" deep. The back is not beautiful with the white wash but the original Larkin labels are present and in good shape. Once again Greyhound Express is great and should ship this for about 90 west coast and 70 east. As long as you can pick it up. Local pick up is always option too and I now have a utility trailer and can deliver within reason. I tried to picture it well to both show it off and answer questions and price it nice so shipping is easier on wallet. I saw the same desk in online shop for 650 plus shipping. The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. The fall front provides a large writing surface. The desk portion sits over a full width single drawer with two half width drawers and a cupboard base w/ door underneath. All drawer fronts have applied rectangular panels with walnut burl veneer covering the entire panels. Drawers have wonderful molded and stamped brass drawer pulls and back plates and all drawers, doors and fall front have keyholes with matching escutcheons and keys. All indications are this is the original finish on the secretary with only the inside fall front being refinished to match the rest of the desk. Made from solid oak(NO VENEER) and in very good condition with some light scratches and rubs from age and use. Measures 42 1/4" tall. 34 1/8" wide and 21 1/2" deep. A nice space saver desk. All drawers slide in and out good and the slide out writing desk top slides in and out very good as well.Appears to have been refinished at one point in time and the handles are not original to the desk. USS Charleston 1890's Eastlake Front Desk
Here is a real piece of history. Off the USS Charleston an American Naval Battleship. If this piece could talk, what story's it could tell. There is only one other desk that is known to exist so far and the workmanship is no comparison to this one. A lot of beautiful brass work with good patina. On the back of this desk is stamped: Wardroom St. Room No. 6, Wt. 272 Lbs. USS Charleston. The desk is 49" tall, 38" across, and 22" deep. The desk seems to be the right age for the Charleston and most likely it was purchased from a sale of items scraped out during 1930. That year she was sold and stripped to the water line to be used as a breakwater ship at Powell River, British Columbia Canada. A desk from the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1875 is solid fine grained oak with an original swivel mirror and leather lift lid writing surface. The deep brown finish is in excellent condition on this American made furniture. Nickel hardware is original. The charmingly wavy glass mirror shows its age. A side drawer has round or pin and cove dovetail joinery of the era. Overall size of this picturesque and very functional antique is 29 1/2" wide. 25" deep, 69 1/2" tall and the leather writing surface slopes up from 27" high at the front edge. It measures approximately 25" wide. 13" deep and 32" tall. It is in original condition.even the original porcelain knobs are intact. I wiped a light coat of Howard's furniture restorer on it and it looks fantastic. The tambor or roll top works well. This is an Eastlake secretary from the late 1800s. I think. It's solid wood construction, mostly walnut with walnut burl panels, very tasteful Eastlake geometric details, original wavy glass and beautiful original patina. Three adjustable shelves in the top book case; drop-down writing surface with original felt, two drawers, file bins and pigeon holes; one fixed self in the base. The two locks work with a replacement key, but they are a little sticky, and one of the rosettes that covers the writing panel pivot is missing. Measures: 42 x 85 x 11.5 top, 20 base. I bought this from a private party in DC about 20 years ago and now I'm downsizing a bit, so I hope it finds a good home. A set of 5 quite old cast iron antique pull that were on some drawers of an old country store counter. There are no chips or cracks in any of these. They are all in excellent condition. Some of the history of the place goes as such, at one time it was a grocery store, and then clothing and shoe store, and then post office, until it was torn down last year. Trying to get someone to help move this away from the wall so that I can take pictures of the back. There is the stagecoach information where this traveled from the east coast to the west coast. I believe it says in 1864. Its been a few decades since I saw it back there. The skeleton key locks the cabinet. No one walks in my door without commenting on it.

Solid walnut with burl panels. The lustrous finish is in excellent condition. The roll top is matched burl, it has a long dent across the center, see photos. Inside is a pull out writing surface with a"brand" mark in natural saddle leather. There are small cubicles and drawers for papers. The removable bookcase upper section has original wavy glass in the doors. Shelves adjust on wooden supports and the lock and key still work.
