Featuring fabulous decorative ormolu mounts, this table is sure to get noticed wherever it is placed. Smothered with exquisite floral marquetry on an ebonised background set into kingwood. This really was thew work of a master craftsman. The marquetry is complimented by the fabulous gilded ormolu mounts which adorn this piece. It is serpentine shaped and finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the middle of a room. And is offered in excellent original condition. The plat book measures approximately 11 inches by 8 1/2 inches and has 32 pages of maps and advertisements related to farming in Kane County. The index includes the following townships(listed in the order they appear) Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Elgin, Dundee, Sugar Grove, Blackberry, Campton, Plato, Rutland, Big Rock, Kaneville, Virgil, Burlington, and Hampshire. There is not a copyright date, but the phone numbers are three and four numbers, and one advertisement for District 9 Pure Milk Association states, Pledged to the maximum possible production during the war emergency, in response to the call of their government. The desk is beautifully inlaid in cut brass with an intricate floral marquetry of cut brass. The are three capacious frieze drawers each with elegant ormolu handles and it stands on elegant tapering legs that terminate in ormolu sabots. It is an absolute masterpiece which is sure to get a lot attention wherever it is placed. Condition: In excellent condition having been beautifully restored in our workshops. DESCRIPTION This is the hard-to-find Plat Book of Bureau County. Illinois published by W. W. Hixson& Co. There is no printing date but I estimate this item to be from the 1930's. At the front is a large fold-out map of the entire county. And the rest of the book consists of maps of the various sections of the county printed on one side only. The maps shows land owners as well as roads and railroads, etc. The item measures 11" x 8-1/2" and has unnumbered pages. The item is in good condition. The previous owner's name is on front cover. The cover is a bit brittle and has separated at the top staple. The lower corner is missing from the cover. The interior pages are a bit toned. Over all it is in nice shape. 18th Century French Louis XVI style Walnut and Pear wood inlay Bronze mounted tooled Leather Top Bureau Plat Desk. Kneehole Bureau Desk known as a Bureau Plat with frieze drawers.
