There is a key provided for the desk portion which just aids in opening the desk and doesn't work the lock.The bookcase portion offers three adjustable shelves that each measure 41 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches deep which provides ample display opportunities for books and collectibles.This secretary breaks down into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. This Victorian secretary has a commanding presence and is full of character and features an abundance of fine details. This is a really well built secretary desk/bookcase. Nice heavy oak. Sawtooth shelf brackets. Knapp dovetailing in the drawers dates the piece between 1870 and 1900. The smaller mirror is bevelled. The pulls are all a nice heavy brass. The condition is excellent. The cabinet is 81 inches tall. 55 inches wide and 17 inches deep. There are six skeleton locks. But no key. The cabinet on the upper left has a mirror on the back wall. There are two oak shelves that can be adjusted with the sawtooth oak bracket(see photo) It is 27 inches wide 45 inches tall and 9.5 inches deep. The two drawers on the lower left are 8 inches tall. 27 inches wide and 9 inches deep. The drop front desk lid is 18 inches tall and 23 inches wide. Inside the desk ar cubby hole and a small drawer. Below the desk part is a drawer that is 4 1/2 inches tall. 23 inches tall ... moreand 9 inches deep. Below that drawer is a cabinet that is 16 1/2 inches tall. 23 1/2 inches wide and 14 inches deep. This lovely desk with bookcase above and drawers below was recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh. Scotland and is constructed of beautiful quartersawn oak, really nice metal pulls and leaded glass doors protecting the bookcase. This delightful piece stands 72 inches tall and measures 31 inches wide by 18 inches deep. Front to back. It travels safely in two pieces, the top 27 3/4 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches deep front to back and 32 1/2 inches tall. The dimensions within the top cabinet are 31 inches tall by 27 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches front to back and has two adjustable shelves as well as the base of the cabinet to serve as three shelves within the cabinet. This is a beautiful antique drop front desk. It is made in the Larkin style. I have not seen any marks that indicate a maker. The piece is dark wood and may be either mahogany or cherry. I am not a wood expert. There is a mirror and two candle holder/sconce shelves for detail, there are also shelves for books. The piece has some wear and tear on the wood, see pics, but nothing huge. It needs a good cleaning! There is no lock detail on the front and no locking mechanism. The last picture shows a brass detail piece that can be added if you like. It will be included with the item.
