A most unusual antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak three door china cabinet(may be used as a bookcase) with a base compartment across for linens. One piece construction. The three doors open to a compartment that has five adjustable shelves across. There is a key for the doors with brass escutcheons(the left door is missing the lock. The cornice, upper door frames, and the base front, are deeply carved. It measures 6'8" 80" tall by 5'5" 65" wide by 22" deep, the plate grooved shelves 5-1/2" deep. When Japan opened it's doors to the West in the 1880's Oriental styles were popular. Every proper Victorian house had at least one piece of Chinoisorie, Japanesqe or Orientalia like this bamboo magazine or book stand circa 1880-90. Made from sections of bamboo with root feet and round knobs, the natural surface has been embellished with wood-burned graining, very lightweight but sturdy. A very finely made antique. Circa 1870's, Renaissance Revival bookcase, probably French made. The case has three compartments: center with one stationary removable shelf, the glass doored ones with each two removable stationary shelves. The interiors and the shelf surfaces are all in an original golden velvet. There are ormolu brass bandings and mounts to the exterior, four ebonized columns and six ebonized bun feet. The center door has a hand enamel painted and gilted porcelain plaque of Venus and Cupid. The bookcase is veneered in bandings of plain maple and tiger maple, and mahogany, inlays in mahogany. The top surface and center door have a dark olive-brown stained maple veneer. It measures 3'8" 42-1/2" tall by 6' 72" wide by 16" deep, the shelves 10" deep. Excellent condition: original finish to woods, ... moreno cracked case boards. Minor chips on one ebonized plinth. Minor scratches to top surface, no ring spots. We believe this to be a very early Yawman and Erbe stacking filing cabinet. Regardless. This is a real beauty and unusually TALL(8(eight! stacks high including the base and crown) Overall dimensions are 27" wide, 16" deep and 76" TALL! There are three stacks of vertical document/letter files. Each measuring 11 1/4" high. 4 1/2- wide and 13" deep(15 of these files in all) There is one stack with two sizes of drawers(7) One size is 8"wide. 5 1/2"high ... moreand 13" deep. Antique. One-of-a-kind, hand painted folk art children's wooden book holder/shelf. Not sure of the wood- possibly stained pine. The inside slats of the book holder have 6 painted dutch girls on one side, and two blue birds, with smaller birds on a flowering branch, on the other. The ends of the book holder are also painted with scenes of flying birds, flowers, and an open book, featuring a scene of a country house, and robed man with a staff respectively. Not 100% sure of the origin of this shelf, but high probability it is Dutch, given the dutch girl decoration, and the clothing the robed/staffed man is wearing. The shelf was purchased in antique store, about 40 years ago in England. The book holder measures 18 1/2" long x 6" high x 8 1/2" wide. This 19th century bookcase offers its old original wavy glass and beautiful carved drawer pulls. This tall step-back bookcase features raised panels of burl walnut accenting the bookcase sides. Period hand cut dovetailed joinery on the drawers and through out the construction of this fine piece with the backside of the bookcase having chamfered backboards. Selling an Antique Oak Barrister Bookcase made by Macey. Measures 62h x 34w x 11d and has 4 sections in great condition. There is no issue with the Glass. Just a reflection from the flash. I am told the base(pictured) is probably not the original, it is the one I received with the unit. There was a repair made to the top at some point which is highlighted in 2 pictures. Unit originally had lights which were removed. You can see a small slit made at the top, back of each unit to pass a cord thru. Does not affect the unit from the front. The Barrister must be picked up on or before November 11.
