It is in the original old dark ... morereddish brown stain finish. This has four glass doors and plenty of space for books. The overall size is 78 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 60 inches high. The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. One of the glass fronts is paneled and made up of an original stained glass accented in green and pink hues. The clear glass door opens up and reveals two adjustable glass shelves. There are several arches that follow through the piece found at the top center and on the two glass fronts. The sides are intricately carved and paneled. The top center arch is adorned with a tin hand hammered detail as well as the drawer fronts. The brass hardware is original to the piece, there is one handle missing on the large drawer, which can be replaced. The tapered legs are accented with a bracket piece that join the two nicely. This side by side has a drop front secretary on one side and a glass door bookcase on the other. There is a bevel mirror at the top of the secretary side. Just below it sits a lamp shelf. When an oil lamp was placed there the mirror would reflect to illuminate a larger area. The mirror appears to be the original; it has some dark spots and discolored areas. The lamp shelf has a ring stain on it as well as some marks and a little discoloration, typical of a piece this old. One of the moldings on the bookcase side is split. The finish is matte and smooth. Just below the drop front desk is a drawer and then a door with a lock. I do have the key. This door has a small piece of veneer missing just below the knob in the keyhole area. I do not know the maker or exact date this was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. Measurements are: 72 1/8 inches tall, 38 7/8 inches side to side and 12 7/8 inches front to back. Practical and attractive vintage modular barrister bookcase made by Globe Wernicke of Cincinnati. OH. Aged dark oak has a wonderful aged patina and, along with the glass front doors, will frame your items beautifully. Brass brackets support the sides and a molded top and bottom unit give this piece cohesion and structure. Each of the six sections in this flexible shelving can be separated and rearranged as necessary. Each shelf has one of three paper Globe Wernicke tags at the back. See pictures for examples of each. Unsure of exact age, but this piece most likely dates from the first half of the 1900's. Overall. Rare, Antique Shaw Walker Barrister Bookcase, glass front, 3 piece Pick up NJ
Rare. Highly collectible Antique Barrister bookcase from the reputable Shaw Walker company. Stackable 3 piece, glass fronts. I am not sure of the type of wood, either cherry or mahogany- this piece is from the early 1900's- it has been well preserved and taken care of. The front and sides have been painted with a black Ethan Allen paint to match the other furniture we have- the inside of each unit and the back has not been painted. The measurements are about 49 1/2 inches tall(stacked with the 3 pieces) 34 inches width, and the depth is 11 1/2 inches. The top has a small scratch in the paint that measures a few inches, but the wood is not scratched as far as I can see. 1800 curved glass bookcase / inlaid marketry drop front secretary desk unusual
hello. i have a nice old antique drop front secretary. the wood would seem to be mahogany. And some mahogany veneer. marketry front from an estate sale. Just down the road, i will tell you all that i know about it. a bit of damage. But it appears to have it all. and the damage is all minor) nice beveled mirror& shelf. a lead glass top section( missing an inside shelf) a curved glass door on the left( bookshelf) side. the glass is wavy and i am certain it is original. a drop front secretary( a bit of veneer loss on the surface) but look at the inlay in the center. original pigeon holes inside of the desk( one drawer is missing a tiny brass knob inside) the drawer directly beneath the desk is burl wood and it has a serpentine( curved) front. the other 3 drawers. 2 bottom and the small one over the desk are flat front) i do not have a 2 ... moredollar key that fits. also 2 of the original locks are missing the bookcase shelves are curved front. But i think perhaps the pulls are not original. a spot of white paint on the frame of the door is easily removed. and 2 bits of veneer to replace on the desk front. it had casters on the bottom, but they are no longer with this piece of furniture. it is easy to find 4 more. i have not cleaned the dust off this unusual piece. i just got it yesterday. it would seem to have the original finish and save for the pulls( and they may be original as well. it is exactly as it was made. perhaps victorian. Perhaps a little later. i WILL NOT SHIP this item. you may come and get it yourself. you may send someone to fetch it for you. on this matter i am firm. it is large and heavy. mom& jon are getting me some measurements now. height is 74 inches width( across the front) is 44" depth is 15" curved glass and frame 20" across and 49 1/2" high green leaded glass is 20" by 17 1/2" beveled mirror is about 17 1/
