This lovely pair are the perfect mix of decorative beauty and practical functionality to make for a vintage design classic. They look great in any room and they are able to store lots of items. Ostensibly they are bookcases but of course you can use them to hold other items. They look particuarly good with decorative items- statues, vases etc- in them. However, for myself, being the bookish type I have a pair in my home with nothing but lovely, fading works of literature in them. The shelves are adjustable to suit meaty tomes or smaller paperbacks. The shelves work on a slat system so you can adjust them to whatever height you like for whatever you like. From\War and Peace\ to the\World\s Smallest Book of Poetry\ these bookcases are perfect. The open fronts are Sheraton style. Main body is walnut polished to a high sheen with solid shelves The inlay is made from various fruitwoods- satinwood. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. The close up pictures of the inlay work hopefully illustrates the level of craftmanship with patterns of scrolling branches. Urns and flower motifs. They would be the highlight of any room and due to their solid construction will last for many generations more. They are in perfect conditon structurally and they have just come back from the restorers where they were repolished so they are ready for home use straight away. The piece comes in two parts. The four door- four drawer base, and the glass fronted top. It's the perfect mix of aesthetic beauty and practical usefulness and will add a touch of style and elegance to any interiors scheme. The piece has the characteristic Sheraton style inlay to the front with the urns and garlands gracing the front of each door. There is also a thin strip bordering the doors. Drawers and glass fronted doors. If you imagine how this inlay is created you can see how much skilled craftmanship and man hours goes into the making of this fine piece of furniture. Each piece of marquetry inlay design has to be cut out of the softer fruitwood and then embedded into the harder mahogany of the main structure. There is a lot of storage space. The doors on the bottom open out to reveal the large inner space. This door is lockable and comes with a key. The drawers at the top open out cleanly. Then of course there is the fantastic glass fronted top half again with keys. When this opens out you can see the shelves are adjustable so you can store various items. Being glass fronted its a great way to showcase your decorative pieces. Such as porcelain, bronzes and other collectibles. Of course books also look great in this piece. At the top is the classical pediment. This fine piece of furniture is a design classic and will last you for generations and hence makes for a great heirloom. Nice pair of round columns or pillars. These are about a 3" diameter at the base and about a 2 3/4" diameter at the top. The capitols measure about 7" X 6 1/2" at the bottom and the top ones are about 5" X 5" One on the left has some cracks in the capitols as shown. Also shown is a small area where the 1/4 sawn oak veneer has lifted a little but it would be in the back so not seen anyway. I have spent endless hours locating a source for these knobs. There are about 12 different styles of knobs that were used on these cases throughout the years of production. The knobs I am offering are the most common ... morestyle that were used. They measure 5/8" diameter by 1/2" projection. I also have these in the 3/4" diameter by 5/8" projection size for those of you who need a bigger knob to grasp. I personally use the larger knob given my larger fingers but the smaller size is the correct one. They come with a mounting post that is machined threaded on one end for screwing into the knob and has wood screw threads on the other end for screwing into the wood for original quick instillation. They are exacting in production and look great next to those antique originals. I have 400 stack units in my inventory and library and these fit in perfectly with my original knobs on my Globe Wernicke and Macey units. You can remove the lacquered varnish finish and age the knob with darkening solution and it will match the aged originals almost perfectly. When this is done and installed next to aged originals they are virtually indistinguishable to the eye. Pair of Egyptian Revival Period Solid Walnut Bookcase Doors
Up for auction is a a very nice pair of Egyptian Revival period solid Walnut Bookcase doors. Door are in good shape with some loss of the period formed carvings(not wooden) and some natural splits in the thin Walnut panels that make-up the Gothic arches. Other than this these doors are the cat's pajamas with there rich espresso patina and all their special details. Formed carvings can be remade using resin and the existing formed carvings. I like them the way they are since they show that nice wear that only comes from age. Each door is 43.75 x 21" x 14/16" thick. This does not include the hing section which includes the carvings. These are each 46.75" long x 2.75" wide x2.25" deep. This is an impressive and rare pair of doors worthy of your finest bid. There are three shelves on each bookcase and the top two on each bookcase are moveable and can be adjusted to accommodate your items for display or books. The top drawer on each chest has removable dividers. The bottom three drawers on each chest are large and roomy. These are solid and in excellent condition. There are no marks left by the bookcases on the tops of the dressers. The chests have an apothecary look. Each unit is 77 inches tall and 30 inches wide. Each dresser is 30 inches tall and 18 1/2 inches deep. Each bookcase is 47 inches tall and about 8 inches deep. This is a pair of oak stacking barrister bookcase side panels from a Globe Wernicke D-8 1/2. 299 finish section. They each measure aprox. 11 1/8" wide x 9 1/4" high, one panel is split. There is some obvious wear as you can see in the pictures. We also have some other similar panels presently listed.
