I purchased this bookcase in July of 1992 from the SCIOTO RIVER ANTIQUES store in Mt. Victory. Ohio for $525, and I have the original sales slip and the receipt from my credit card as provenance. I am selling it because I am now retiring to the Philippines, and it is too expensive to ship it. The bookcase is circa 1920's.

This piece was well cared for over the last 80 years and shows little sign of wear and tear. It would certainly compliment any home or office. The large cornice has a beautifully carved face. The fluted columns look great! All of the shelves are fully adjustable. Note the four pegs that hold the center piece to the side. This is how most of the armoire is held together. This latch secures the left door. The geometric designs on the lower portion of the doors is a traditional feature of pieces made in Brittany. These turned feet are solid oak and very sturdy. Antique Mission Oak Library Desk I can find no markings on this except a#17 in pencil in the drawer slide and a# 17 in pencil in the drawer. I assume they did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of ... morea quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. Clean or restore the finish on this desk, it is in the condition it was given me in. All in all this desk is in great vintage condition given its age. For sale is a distinctive. Rare, solid oak antique bookcase. Period/style is uncertain- I suspect it is European but could also be American. Construction is solid oak, no veneer and is very well put together(good joinery) Its rather heavy for it's size. I am estimating that it's greater than 100 years or older. Regrettably I must sell because I just moved into a new place and it clashes with the decor. Known defects: there is a slight water stain on the top of the bookcase but it is barely noticeable and blends quite well with the patina on the unit(see photo) On the bottom-left. When I saved old ink wells and antique books it was set up as a victorian desk and bookcase complete with inkwell and quill pen. When I wanted to use it(as it is shown) to display my green depression glass, the glass shelves displayed that beautifully. It is a solid oak piece with all the original hardware and original beveled mirror. We did add the glass shelves. They were missing when we purchased this piece many years ago. It has a drop leave desk that hides all the little cubbies and small drawer. There is a storage closet and a larger drawer under the drop leave desk. We have the original key and it still works. It works fine on the glass door that encloses the glass shelves and it also works fine on the drawer under the desk top. The mechanism is missing to lock the large door under the desk top. The piece is numbered with"172" carved into the wood inside the large storage area under the desk top.
