Four separate stacks with this bookcase-a graduated unit with 3 different sizes. Note the top unit has a leaded glass door. Original labels on the interior and nice leopard bands on the sides. Super finish which is smooth and even. The interior height of the units is 13.5. 11.5, and two which are 9.5. The overall size of the piece is 34 wide, 12 deep, and 57.5 high. I don't think you will find a nicer four stack unit. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Breif description of early metal graining in office furniture: Origins in 1912 Steelcase was incorporated as the Metal Office Furniture Company on March 16. 1912, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although the new company had a novel idea-fabricating furniture from sheet metal-it received little notice in"The Furniture City, which already had nearly 60 furniture manufacturers. Peter M. Wege proposed the Metal Office Furniture Company to a group of investors. Wege had been a designer and executive at the Safe ... moreCabinet Company and the General Fireproofing Company. Both in Ohio, and had received several patents for all or portions of sheet-metal structures he had designed. He was aware of the benefits of steel furniture. At the turn of the 20th century, mergers were leading to larger companies, larger office and administrative staffs, larger buildings, and an increased office furniture market. However, while new brick and steel construction techniques were making building exteriors less flammable and skyscrapers a reality. Office interiors, cluttered with wooden furniture and other combustibles, were still being heated and lighted by open flame appliances. An added fire risk was the use of smoking materials; ashes dumped into the popular wicker wastebaskets caused many office fires. For those of you who are Globe Wernicke/Macey stack barrister legal bookcase collectors. Restorers, investors and fans these are EXACTLY what you need to finish detailing your bookcase desk units. This auction is for 2(two) matching or one pair of bookcase desk tract WOODEN STOP assemblies. I have shown the use of the stops in the photo with installed tracts in the unit. The bearing assemblies I sell on ebay go thru the front of the tract and the wooden stops go at the very rear of the tract(up against the back of the unit) to act as the door stop. The size of my stops are identical and are specific to each tract or size unit(D,C,G,H and 41 inch units) ... moreI have all sizes on hand. The finish looks like new wood but can be aged with a little walnut stain if you like. Original stops are on the left in the first photo for comparison. They come with 4 attaching correct brads but there were several styles of those used and we include one of the more common styles. The stop is important to prevent over opening of the door when pushing back the door and causing damage to the rear panel, scissors assemblies and it holds the rear of the tract in place for smooth operation of the door. Without the stops the doors jams as it moves backwards, as the tracts tend to expand outward towards the rear if not fixed down. The pieces are precision cut and perfectly dimensional formed. We have all door stops for all production Globe Wernicke units. People often use the Globe Wernicke hardware to convert their Macey units when the irreplaceable door tract parts are missing on those as well. Antique early 1900's Quartersawn Oak mission stepback file cabinet. about 41 inches wide. The bottom section is 25 1.2 inches deep, the piece with the file drawers is 16 1/2 inches deep. The drawers measure 13 by 12, and the bottom section cabinet doors are 19 inches wide and 22 inches high. This file cabinet is in outstanding condition with desireable paneled sides. 4 parts comprised of a seperate top cap, one section that has 3 filing drwaers, the next section for storage and a seperate base. I could not find a name but it looks to be a globe wernicke piece or Yawman and Erbe. Very useful quality mission oak file cabinet. Came from an estate sale from Rochester NY. Antique Mission Quartersawn Oak Hale/Macey Barrister Bookcase
Great old barrister. All oak in original finish. Good patina. Some alligatoring on one shelf inside. Measures 34 1/2 wide. 12" deep and 45 1/2" tall. Bottom shelf is tallest at 14 1/4" and is labelled Macey 912. Top one carries a Hale label and is 10 1/2" tall. Center one is the same as top but is unsigned. I am certain it too is Hale. Bookcase is banded with what appears to be copper and a hammered/leopard appearance. The two top sections were scissored at one time. Hooks are there. Metal scissors are not. Glass doors do move properly despite this. All glass appears to be original. There is some warping of the wood panels in the back. Just a sign of age and has no affect on appearance or performance. Old Oak MACEY FILE STORAGE BOX Index Card Size Dovetail Corners Hinged
Founded in 1896. Macey Furniture Company’s early products were oak card indexes and file systems, sectional bookcases and roll-top desks. They eventually expanded their line to include wooden office furniture. Up for your consideration is finely made hinged box. Measuring 10” in length. The oak box is 7” wide and stands 5” in height. A unique hinge system allows for the lid to be stationary in several positions. There is a groove in the bottom to accommodate the slider, which is long gone. Adding to the appeal is the dovetailed corners. 4” x 6” notecards would easily fit in the box, as the interior measurements are 6 1/4” wide and 4 1/4” tall. A gold“Macey” logo is present on the front. This particular emblem was first used in 1908 and the firm closed up shop in 1940, making this container at least 70+ years old. ANTIQUE MACEY NO. 25 BARRISTER BOOKCASE & OAK DESK - GLOBE WERNICKE TYPE STACKER
I have a rather hard to find Macey Bookcase with drop front desk. Desk is in need of restoration. Lid is cuped and will not close easily, someone drilled a small hole below the lock, I assume it was to aid in opening the lid. Interior with all the shelves is in good order, one of the lid arms is missing, veneer is missing on the bottom part of the lid. Desk top is made to have additional bookcases stacked on top. Unit measures 44 inches tall by 34 1/4 inches wide by 16 3/4 inches at its deepest point. Bookcase area is 12 inches deep by 13 inches tall and about 32 wide inside measurement. Door is probably not the right one but I think it could be made to work, It is wide enough but looks like it is about 3/4 inches too short, if you added a small piece across the top it would probably work. Not sure how the slides work. Has nice pillars on ... morethe front, all in all its a pretty neat old piece and deserves to be brought back, hope someone out there can do it. I have treied to cover what i think is mostly wrong with it, I am selling with PICK-UP ONLY so if you do not like it you will not have to take it. Vintage Macey(it has the stickers inside on the middle and top units) I believe it is Mahogany Wood Stacking Bookcase in as pictured vintage used conditi on.Approx 51-1/ tall by 33-3/4" wide by at the top unit 12-1/2" deep/ back and at the bottom unit 15" Back/ deep. It has wear and some damaged parts including the middle window is broken the bottom window has a chip out of the left front top side. I pictured a nail on the right side and a screw on the left side on the edges of the bottom larger unit. On the bottom and middle it has some de-lamination warping inside. those appear to be the main places of flaws that I can see. Macey Barrister Bookcase Top 34" Banded, Beaded
This is an ornate. Oak top(10-B) for a Macey barrister bookcase. It has a decorative, beaded strip across the front. The piece was made in the very early 1900's.Pieces produced before 1908 carry the name"Fred Macey Furniture CO" or simply"Macey" in italicscript with the tail of the"Y" underlining the word. At some point the piece has been painted beige but the wood under the paint appears to be in good shape. With a little work and a lot of love this would be a very defining top for a Macey sectional bookcase.

I think this antique oak 4 drawer Macey file cabinet is in very good vintage condition. It still retains the majority of the original dark oak finish. It is a bit scratchy on the top and has a few spots but I would leave it as is. I think a bit of scratch cover and a waxing would be sufficient to make it home ready. The interior of the cabinet and drawers are very clean for a vintage item. If you like to refinish items to a light oak look it would refinish nicely. It does have the original Macey Decal of Grand Rapids Mich. and all of the drawers have the original directional decals as well. The hardware is mission style so it would go well with arts and crafts furniture. It has a tiny seperation halfway up one side that is only about a 16th of an inch wide and causes no structurally concerns. Unusual original finish four-section mahogany glass door bookcase with various section sizes, and all original stenciled ... morelabels on the back identifying each section. It’s finished in that old dark mahogany color that has crazed to a beautiful patina over the years. It has a few minor nicks and dings, but is in overall nice condition. It has a slip-down covered top with a molded edge, which is unusual, and paneled sides, not plain. The gold stencil on the inside says the finish is finish number 15. The sizes are 10-9.75 on the first two sections, 11.75 on the third section, and 13.25 on the fourth section. The outside dimensions are 35.5 inches wide, 12 inches deep, and 62 inches high. It comes with its original mahogany knobs and original glass. This is just a true, original antique all set to go in the home.
