I took these pictures in both the shade and full sun so you could see both the finish and patina. Unfortunately the Globe Wernicke paper label is missing but I know for a fact this is a Globe Wernicke top and I will stand behind that 100% If you know the number and finish please let me know and I'll post the information so everyone can see. I have given you( 18) pictures to look at. Please take a moment and Enlarge my pictures so you can see everything clearly. As for the condition I would say it's good. Very solid. Originally the previous owner had a paper label on this( right side) where the front curves down and I removed it. You can see this in my 1st picture. Knob width at the TOP DIAMETER is 1 3/16" TOTAL KNOB HEIGHT is 7/8" BASE WIDTH IS 1/2" These are the correct size and profile for the drawer bases for Globe Wernicke® and Macey stack units(although they work great for Gunn, Lundstrum, Weis, Danner and others as well) There were at least 8 different styles of knobs. This style was the most prominent and the best made of the 4 cast versions. It is made of polished brass and then aged to match your original knobs. The aging and burnish process takes a 5 step process and can be hazardous to perform. The aging/burnishing is done at essentially cost. See our ad for Aging Solution. Five Section Globe-Wernicke Oak Sectional Bookcase- ca. 1940's
This five piece oak sectional bookcase also has the original top and bottom pieces. It is missing three doors and needs re-finished but when that is done you will have a $1500+ piece of furniture. I'm not sure of the age. This is one of the first pieces of furniture my parents got after they were married in 1946. I'm not sure if they got it used or new. This is located in Hagerstown, Maryland, just minutes from I-81 and I-70. It is currently in a storage unit so we will have to coordinate times for you to look at it. Massive 7 Part Antique Quartersawn Oak Sectional Bookcase Globe Wernicke Macey Massive 7 Part Antique Quartersawn Oak Sectional Bookcase. It has 5 main section- 4 are the normal style with top sliding glass door and 1 is a 2 door cabinet style plus the matching original top and base sections. I found some numbers and markings. I am fairly certain it is Globe Wernicke, possible Library Bureau or another famous maker from the 1910 era. The unique thing about this set is the size- by far the largest size sectional bookcase we have ever seen. The sections all measures 33" long which is about the normal length but they are all 17" wide and 13" high- much larger than most for those dimensions. It will need some attention and hopefully minor fixing- some of the internal hardware pieces are missing and the scissors and slides will ... moreneed some adjusting. The sections are all in good, solid condition with no cracks or major damage, a few spots of edge chipping to the quartersawn oak veneer but over not bad. All the original knobs are present. The top is fine and solid with a couple ring marks where some previous owner probably had placed a potted plant but I really think these would polish up fine. The base is intact and solid but the finish is very worn, the best thing we can say for the base is it does the job. My 17 photos should show you a fine example of what is being offered. A good. What I believe is a GLOBE WERNICKE 4 sectional Oak stacking BARRISTER BOOKCASE. In fair CONDITION. I received this note from a viewer: This is an early stack of the Globe Wernicke Company as evidenced by the locking tab on the top.The style of side bands, the early non recessed sides on the top itself. And the closure mechanism. So it IS a GLOBE WERNICKE not a possible one. It is also in the D series line. Most likely a 198 series. I purchased it in 1995 and used it to safely house my rare book collection for almost 20 years. I believe it was refinished before I purchased it. Not the best job done… the refinisher got some glue on the glass of one of the 10” and the 14” unit. I believe it could be razor bladed off. but it never bothered me for what i was using it for. Ideal if you already have one of these bookcase. And want to add ... moremore units. I have seen individual units like these on eBay for $100-150. so, this is a bargin. I am moving and need to find it a good home. But I can always store it until I find the right price. Comes easily apart for a total of 5 pieces. Exterior. 34" wide. 11” deep. 50.75” tall Inside 32” wide. 9.5” depth 2 at 8.25" inside height units with working glass cover. One has glue on glass) 1 at 12" inside height with working glass cover. inexpertly glued corner of glass frame. Has some glue on glass. 1 at 10" inside height unit without a glass cover. Globe Wernicke Quarter Sawn Tiger Oak Sectional Lawyers Barrister Bookcase
I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa early 1900s Globe-Wernicke Sectional Bookcase. This is an original matching unit- all sections are Globe-Wernicke 298-1/2. The lower section is a number 112 D 12-1/4" The middle a 110 D 10-1/4" and the upper a 108 D 8-1/2" These are all standard sized sections which are most desired as the more narrow sections have far less room. The bookcase stands approx 47" tall. 34" wide, and approx 12-1/2" at the base. It weighs roughly 75 lbs as it sits. It is in very good original condition- some minor age and use wear but overall a nice example. It is not perfect- there are a few areas of minor wear and such. Antique Globe-Wernicke Elastic Sectional Barrister Bookcase The Globe-Wernicke Company was well known for their line of sectional bookcases. They were called“elastic” because one could just buy whatever was needed at a given time and add sections at any time. One could mix and match different styles and sizes to get exactly the look and functionality needed. The sections were available in different heights to accommodate different sized books. The top. Base and bookcase sections lie one on top of another with no attachment hardware required. This feature also makes it extremely easy to move. What a great idea! This bookcase was bought by my father probably about 80 years ago. But I’m not sure how old it really is; the Universal style came on the market around 1921. It’s been in continual use since then and is in pretty good condition for ... moreits age. There are some nicks and scratches in the finish, primarily on the legs(banging into it with a vacuum cleaner while cleaning underneath) and on the top(knickknacks and other things) There is no water damage and all the section work well. This particular unit is composed of the following items: 1 Ambassador Base Pattern 1867 Grade 3025 ½ 4 Universal Cases Pattern 811 Grade 3025 ½ 1 Ambassador Top Pattern 1861 Grade 3025 ½ The case pattern 811 refers to the inside height of 11” I believe 9” pattern 809) and 13” pattern 813) heights were also available for larger and smaller books. The grade refers to the type of finish. Ambassador and Universal were two of several different styles available. The Ambassador top and base were more elaborate than the Universal ones. Again. One could mix and match to suit one’s décor and budget! The Universal finish types were imitation walnut. Mahogany and oak, with“imitation” meaning veneer. It's made from all solid wood, thankfully; particleboard wasn’t yet invented. I don’t know how to recognize wood types, but I think this one is the mahogany veneer. This Bookcase belong to a retired Lawyer in our area. As for age and maker I can not find any information on it. I do know it is at least 30 years old. The bookcase has been hand painted white and the inside is black. It has surface scratches inside on the shelves and some minor scratches and defects on the outer shell as well. Globe-Wernicke 6-section lawyer's bookcase. A vintage item and a rare find for your office! This bookcase is antique so there are scratches and chips here and there. But some good furniture polish will freshen it up really well. I can provide more pictures if requested. The glass is not broken at all. The pattern is 811 in 5 sections and 813 in one section(which means its just a tad bit taller than the others but matches perfectly) Grade is 298 1/2. Local Pickup only or buyer arranges shipping.
