One of the glass fronts is paneled and made up of an original stained glass accented in green and pink hues. The clear glass door opens up and reveals two adjustable glass shelves. There are several arches that follow through the piece found at the top center and on the two glass fronts. The sides are intricately carved and paneled. The top center arch is adorned with a tin hand hammered detail as well as the drawer fronts. The brass hardware is original to the piece, there is one handle missing on the large drawer, which can be replaced. The tapered legs are accented with a bracket piece that join the two nicely. Rare form carved quartered oak barrister bookcase with desk leaded glass-14489
This is a great carved quartered oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This outstanding stacking desk bookcase is one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through ... morethe entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Unique sphinx-stamped brass pulls complement the dark oak quite wonderfully; several of the handles also appear to have been replaced and are slightly different than one another. The bookcase, fall, and middle drawer still lock with an accompanying set of keys, while the top and bottom drawers no longer lock. This piece easily separates into the bookcase and bureau sections, with the top securing into the bottom with a pair of screws. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and the shaped bracket feet remain as sturdy as they are elegant.
