Also shown is a small area where the 1/4 sawn oak veneer has lifted a little but it would be in the back so not seen anyway. Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original ... morebeauty. This was a earlier restoration by some one else and lables were removed, so not sure of maker. But from construction would guess is either Gunn or Weis. I did replace door runners and hardware so doors open and shut well. Size is 44" tall, 34" wide, 12" deep. Doors are 13" 11" 10" tall. Buyer pick up only no shipping. Very good overall condition, This antique carved oak bureau was hand-crafted in Georgian England around 1820. The wood has aged beautifully. Developing a lovely patina that enriches the ... morenatural luster of the ebonized oak. Combined with the marvelously intricate carvings that cover the face of this piece, the result of this patina is a striking and timeless bureau that will continue to astound the eye for centuries more to come. Unique sphinx-stamped brass pulls complement the dark oak quite wonderfully; several of the handles also appear to have been replaced and are slightly different than one another. The bookcase, fall, and middle drawer still lock with an accompanying set of keys, while the top and bottom drawers no longer lock. This piece easily separates into the bookcase and bureau sections, with the top securing into the bottom with a pair of screws. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and the shaped bracket feet remain as sturdy as they are elegant. This bureau bookcase has sustained some superficial wear, including a typical assortment of old dings and marks, although most of these marks are very minor and hardly show. Several separations between the boards have, however, developed in the bureau face and sides. ANTIQUE FRENCH COUNTRY 18 c. OAK BIBLIOTHEQUE BUFFET BOOKCASE Formally the top part of an 18th century French Buffet a Deux Corps currently used as a bookcase. The bottom part was lost through the centuries and the top was raised on bun feet and rounded apron was added to the bottom. This transformation took place a while ago and the wood shows some aging and doesn’t stand out. Two doors open wide. Revealing the interior, which is about 52” from side to side ... moreand 13” deep and 52” tall. We have added two 1 ½” thick heavy duty pine shelves. Which are completely adjustable and will hold a lot of weight. The shelves were aged to look old and will not stand out. The front doors are covered with gathered French country style fabric. Which can be removed so that you can see the interior through the glass. The lock is in working condition, complete with the key. The bibliotheque measures about 59” at the widest point and about 20 ¾” deep. It stands up about 63 ½” tall and the top surface can be used as a shelf. Displaying collectable items. Very heavy. Solid and well built item. The primer material is oak. However, secondary woods was also used on the sides and the back, which is common for 18th Century furniture. We were using it in our office for files and fabric samplers and it is hard to find a bookcase which will fit oversized files and provide such great access as this item does.
