The piece comes in two parts. The four door- four drawer base, and the glass fronted top. It's the perfect mix of aesthetic beauty and practical usefulness and will add a touch of style and elegance to any interiors scheme. The piece has the characteristic Sheraton style inlay to the front with the urns and garlands gracing the front of each door. There is also a thin strip bordering the doors. Drawers and glass fronted doors. If you imagine how this inlay is created you can see how much skilled craftmanship and man hours goes into the making of this fine piece of furniture. Each piece of marquetry inlay design has to be cut out of the softer fruitwood and then embedded into the harder mahogany of the main structure. There is a lot of storage space. The doors on the bottom open out to reveal the large inner space. This door is lockable and comes with a key. The drawers at the top open out cleanly. Then of course there is the fantastic glass fronted top half again with keys. When this opens out you can see the shelves are adjustable so you can store various items. These are a superb pair of carved oak bookcase very large.There are carved lions heads and figures to the top with three doors. The base is also heavily carved with lions heads two drawers with the original brass handles and dovetail joints. Below are two doors again with brass handles with carved center doors. They sit on three square solid oak feet to the front. Amazing quality they also come in two parts so they are easy to move. Here is a great find. A 19th century carved Mahogany Lion/Griffin bookcase. Believed to have come from the workshop of R J Horner in New York or even a Cincinnati firm owned by Robert Mitchell. Both were responsible for creating some of the finest American made furniture of the 19th century. This is a solid piece with a detailed carvings and a great set of feet. Offered here is a rare early Cast Iron Globe Wernicke bookcase knob. Which I believe is from the late 1800's and is possibly the earliest style used on their bookcases. Typically when I see these they were used two on each door, and often they are missing. I have one other matching one which I will offer to the winning bidder if they need it and we can do a buy-it now through eBay. The knob measures 1 1/16th" long by 5/8" wide and 9/16" tall. The book shelf has a floral motif with different plants carved on the hinged panels and a large fern branch carved in the base. The carvings on the outside panels are deeply carved with nice leaf& flower definition. One looks like daffodils and the other is some type of ivy. The inside surface of each panel has a more naïve incised flower(tulips& There is a carved“V” design around the base and on the narrow edges of the panels. Antique Late 1800s Refinished "GLOBE" Solid Oak 2-Drawer 3x5 Card File Case.
Beautiful antique quartersawn golden oak card file storage box. Made by the Globe Manufacturing Company maker of Barrister bookcases and other modular office furniture. The gold foil Globe label shows some wear. But is very readable. This case measures 14" wide x 17 1/4" deep x 5 1/2" high. The drawers measure 5 3/4" wide x 16 1/2" long x 4" high. Inside drawer measurements are 5 1/8" wide x 15 1/2" long x 3 1/2" sides) high. The outer box constructed of 3/4" thick oak and uses a lap joint in assembly for strength. Drawer fronts are oak and the drawers themselves are dark red painted metal. Paint appears to be original and has a fair amount of scraching and scuffing. But no rust. The sliders are copper plated like the pulls. Brass drawer pulls are also original. Original rubber feet on bottom ... morewere replaced with new matching ones. Box was refinished with several coats of MinWax Satin Varnish and hand-polished with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax to a soft luster. All joints are solid. Some joint movement on the sides of the box(see pictures) but integrity is intact. Some scratches and marks from age. No reserve! This listing is for an absolutely GORGEOUS long antique shelf. Oak is ALL tiger quartersawn wood. The entire shelf is oak and it's in wonderful condition with no damage. It came right off my own wall. It has sawtooth molding along front with no breakage or damage. It has two graceful brackets. Top is lovely and has a small oak edge strip to keep things from falling off. Measures 41" long and shelf top is 7" deep.
