Condition: Used Location: Olathe, United States This is a great carved quartered oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This outstanding stacking desk bookcase ... moreis one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through the entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. There is no tag on the underside of this unit to tell us but we know from the four small tacks, this is where the label was, it has been torn off, but it does reveal its made by Globe Wernicke and its obvious that the wood is mahogony. This auction is for the top only, the base is in one photo but its only there for display purposes, the base will be offered in another auction. This top an the base being offered in another auction is definately a leg up on putting together a 3/4 size mahogony stacking bookcase. I am pleased to offer a very fine antique miniature bookcase similiar to the Globe Wernicke bookcases! The bookcase has three shelves with brass knobs to pull the shelves out and upwards and are covered with thin sheets of selenit on the backsides- a mineral often used instead of glass. The condition is very good with signs of age and handling. The width measures a bit over 6" the height measures 9 1/8" and the depth measures 2 1/4" on the bottom and 1 7/8" on the top.

Located in Edmonds Washington 98020. This Highly collectible Vintage Antique Stacking Sectional Bookcase. By Globe Wernicke. The wood is in very good condition. The glass doors need to be cleaned. But are in great shape. No cracks or chips in the glass. Universal 13 inch unit-Pattern 813-GRADE is: 4098 1/2 4 Sections High with Top& Base. By 1936. GW had introduced the Ambassador style, which appears to be Universal style book sections with a different style base and top. RARE 3/4 width(25" Globe-Wernicke top in solid Maple(style 598 1/2) In great shape considering it is 100+ years old. Original finish w/original tag. This is a size"D" depth top. Little dusty and could benefit from some light cleaning. There are scratches consistent with age and there appears to be some uneven aging to the stain on the top(as if there were books placed on the top and not moved for years. They are exacting in their dimensions to the originals. They work perfectly with the recessing in the factory door hinges. These materials are far superior to the original production materials used by Globe Wernicke®. These steel shoulder screw assemblies are high grade stainless steel and the bushings are oil impregnated bronze(therefore self lubricating) The washers are stainless steel as well. Installed these look almost identical in color to the original production pieces unlike the other replacement bearing assemblies out there being offered today. These are far superior in terms of function over the original materials. The original materials would trap moisture between the steel bearing and steel shoulder on the screw and the steel bearing assemblies would then rust seizing up. This then forces the door surface to be dragged along the top of the bearing loosening the bearing attachment, damaging the wood on the door and slowing the progress of a door that should otherwise open with great ease. Original Bookcase Knob This knob was removed from a Globe Wernicke barrister bookcase. The knob pictured is the knob you will receive. Knob is just like it was removed and has not been cleaned. I know it's an original because I am the person who removed it. This is part of my formerly"not for sale" personal stash of parts. I have been working on antique furniture for 30 years and my father longer than that. I do not call myself an expert but have done hundreds of stackers and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on parts. Dimensions: 9/16" diameter top. 5/16" diameter base. THIS 3 STACK GLOBE WERNICKE BOOKCASE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ALL PARTS WORKING AND NO DAMAGE AT ALL. IT IS 60 INCHES TALL AND 33 INCHES WIDE.THE DEPTH OF THE SHELVES IS 12 INCHES. THE HEIGHT OF THE TOP AND BOTTOM SECTIONS IS 14 INCHES. THE MIDDLE SECTION HEIGHT IS 12 INCHES. ALL SECTIONS MATCH WITH A WALNUT FINISH. THE MIDDLE SECTION IS A LIITLE DARKER INSIDE.
