This lovely pair are the perfect mix of decorative beauty and practical functionality to make for a vintage design classic. They look great in any room and they are able to store lots of items. Ostensibly they are bookcases but of course you can use them to hold other items. They look particuarly good with decorative items- statues, vases etc- in them. However, for myself, being the bookish type I have a pair in my home with nothing but lovely, fading works of literature in them. The shelves are adjustable to suit meaty tomes or smaller paperbacks. The shelves work on a slat system so you can adjust them to whatever height you like for whatever you like. From\War and Peace\ to the\World\s Smallest Book of Poetry\ these bookcases are perfect. The open fronts are Sheraton style. Main body is walnut polished to a high sheen with solid shelves The inlay is made from various fruitwoods- satinwood. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. The close up pictures of the inlay work hopefully illustrates the level of craftmanship with patterns of scrolling branches. Urns and flower motifs. They would be the highlight of any room and due to their solid construction will last for many generations more. They are in perfect conditon structurally and they have just come back from the restorers where they were repolished so they are ready for home use straight away. 19th C Eastlake Two Section Bookcase Walnut/Burl Walnut Veneer w/Ornate Carving
An absolutely stunning pair of bookcases. These date to the mid 19th century and are in unbelievable condition for the age. These are two sections that were most likely built in at some point or possibly had a section that fit in between them. When facing the cabinets. The left section is unfinished on the right side of it and the right section is unfinished on the left side. This can be seen in the last photo. Together these are 86 7/8" in width. The height is 77" to the top of the corner moldings and 76" to the top front center. The depth at the base is 18 5/8" and the crown has a depth of 18.5" These could be used in two separate areas with the unfinished side against a wall. The sections are exactly alike with stunning hand carved floral and geometric designs. The top crest of these has a hand carved dental molding ... morethat matches at the seam. The corner pieces have a carved floral design. The inside depth is 14.25" There are four shelves inside each section. The shelves sit on slats that fit into a step design that is attached to the inner sides. This can be seen in the photo of the inside. There are locks with inside mechanisms on the doors. The top corners of the glass on the doors have an ornate carved. Applied design. There are reeded columns on the outer left and right sides as well. Each section also has two drawers with the original hardware. The drawers also have locks on them. There are metal rods that run through the wood on the sides as part of the construction of these that run from front to back. At the front the rod appears as a small button 1/4 of the way down the reeded column. It is attached at the back with a nut. There are signs of wear that are age and use appropriate including scratches on the shelves and feet. Overall these are in great condition and the pictures don't do them justice. This three tiered Walnut Barristers Bookcase was originally manufactured by Globe Wernicke. It comes in five stackable sections. Three shelf units, a base and a topper, all made from sold walnut. The unit is a finely made piece of furniture as displayed in the photographs showing the side panel joinery. It has knobs that do not match that can be easily replaced with more desirable hardware. The cantilever glass doors are in excellent working condition and operate smoothly. The unit has a beautiful aged patina. It measures 33 inches wide x 13 inches deep x 64.75 inches high. Full burl walnut columns, incised carvings,carved flourettes and roundels and the original brass hardware with the key working the doors and the drawers. The lower part of the cabinet is 33 inches tall and 18 inches deep. There are 2 drawers. Each 17 in wide by 15 in deep. There are 2 wood doors on the bottom and 2 shelves inside. Measuring 25" tall x 15-5/8" wide x 11" deep, this very functional and all original bookcase/stand is made of solid pine and shows the original walnut finish. It features scrolled feet, two shelves in front, an unusual 16-1/2" deep x 3-1/4" wide rear section, lap joints where the sides meet the back, and is nicely proportioned throughout. The bookcase is in good condition. There is wear on all surfaces. But it retains a nice overall finish. This bookcase/stand is very sturdy and sits evenly and steady on any flat surface.
