Gallery, original finish, hardware and old wavy glass circa 1875. The old original finish is rich and inviting with wonderful aged patina. Beautiful spoon and incised period carvings with burl walnut accents and rosettes adorn this quality crafted piece.This fine 19th century bookcase offers ample display space for that special collection of books or displaying those special collectibles with grand style and elegance. While this bookcase is sturdy and ready to be used immediately it does have some cosmetic issues to point out. The top has wear consistent with age as you can see in the photos. These are mainly light scuffs and minor dings. The back boards and sides have significant age splits. Age splits occur on most solid wood pieces. Solid wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity and over time this can cause the wood to shrink and create gaps. These age splits are not affecting the piece structurally as it is still very sturdy and will last for many years to come. Overall this antique bookcase has lovely character and is a wonderful and useful piece. This charming Victorian period antique bookcase is a marvelous antique. Raised picture frame molding is featured on each side of the base with wide recessed carvings on each side of the bookcase top which has a slight Gothic influence. Additional wide recessed carving is present on the slant front portion of the desk with the original pull out support slides intact. This secretary breaks down into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. If you like unique antique pieces check out this wonderful and handsome old bookcase.It would look great in your library or office and. What a conversation piece. It has stringers running up both sides where a wood slats fit in. This holds the shelf at the desired height, very cleaver and unique design. Dimensions are 62 1/2" high and 46 1/2" wide. The bookcase itself is in very good condition. Has two small splits in the wood where the top part attaches to the shelf itself. I'm sure it's easily repairable or just left alone(not a big deal) I'm selling this as local pick up however. This 19th century bookcase features its original wavy glass in the doors and its old original finish with period dove-tailed joinery on the drawer ends. The five adjustable shelves offer versatility in displaying that special book collection or those pretty collectibles. The key provided just aids in opening the doors as the lock does not work.
