I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa early 1900s Globe-Wernicke Sectional Bookcase. This is an original matching unit- all sections are Globe-Wernicke 298-1/2. The lower section is a number 112 D 12-1/4" The middle a 110 D 10-1/4" and the upper a 108 D 8-1/2" These are all standard sized sections which are most desired as the more narrow sections have far less room. The bookcase stands approx 47" tall. 34" wide, and approx 12-1/2" at the base. It weighs roughly 75 lbs as it sits. It is in very good original condition- some minor age and use wear but overall a nice example. It is not perfect- there are a few areas of minor wear and such. Antique Globe-Wernicke Elastic Sectional Barrister Bookcase The Globe-Wernicke Company was well known for their line of sectional bookcases. They were called“elastic” because one could just buy whatever was needed at a given time and add sections at any time. One could mix and match different styles and sizes to get exactly the look and functionality needed. The sections were available in different heights to accommodate different sized books. The top. Base and bookcase sections lie one on top of another with no attachment hardware required. This feature also makes it extremely easy to move. What a great idea! This bookcase was bought by my father probably about 80 years ago. But I’m not sure how old it really is; the Universal style came on the market around 1921. It’s been in continual use since then and is in pretty good condition for ... moreits age. There are some nicks and scratches in the finish, primarily on the legs(banging into it with a vacuum cleaner while cleaning underneath) and on the top(knickknacks and other things) There is no water damage and all the section work well. This particular unit is composed of the following items: 1 Ambassador Base Pattern 1867 Grade 3025 ½ 4 Universal Cases Pattern 811 Grade 3025 ½ 1 Ambassador Top Pattern 1861 Grade 3025 ½ The case pattern 811 refers to the inside height of 11” I believe 9” pattern 809) and 13” pattern 813) heights were also available for larger and smaller books. The grade refers to the type of finish. Ambassador and Universal were two of several different styles available. The Ambassador top and base were more elaborate than the Universal ones. Again. One could mix and match to suit one’s décor and budget! The Universal finish types were imitation walnut. Mahogany and oak, with“imitation” meaning veneer. We purchased it from an antique dealer in Leesburg Virginia in 1979. We down sized from a very large home to a retirement community. We tried to work it in but sadly. Just do not have room for it. I am told the base(pictured) is probably not the original, it is the one I received with the unit. There was a repair made to the top at some point which is highlighted in 2 pictures. Unit originally had lights which were removed. You can see a small slit made at the top, back of each unit to pass a cord thru. Does not affect the unit from the front. The Barrister must be picked up on or before November 11.

This is a Globe Wernicke’ barrister sectional bookcase, three-section with original‘Globe Wernicke’ labels, Pattern 811 Grade 299’ on original base with original top& finish, very good to excellent, 49 3/8”H x 34 5/16”W X 11 1/2”D. reproduction GUNN Sectional Bookcase Hardware - Barrister - regular or mission
Offered here is a PAIR of reproduction Gunn Bookcase shelf brackets for the regular size Gunn sectional bookcase sections in TWO different styles either the regular or mission style. These were originally made of cast iron but sometime in the evolution of Gunn bookcases the company decided to go away from cast iron and had them made of stamped steel instead. Probably due to cost and breakage of the brittle cast iron. As there is and was no commercially made reproductions of this part, I decided to have them done myself at considerable expense about 10 years ago. I have found when I find this brand of bookcases at auction they are often sold disassembled with parts missing or broken. I have a limited number of these parts in the regular and mission style to sell on eBay and when they are gone they will no longer be available. They are made of steel which can be colored with a gun bluing solution. A rust remover such as Loctite Extend or spray paint, etc. after cleaning with a solvent such as lacquer thinner. The new parts pictured are with a old antique original mission part which is to confirm the new ones are the correct size. Only the new parts are offered for sale. The old one is for display only. This is one of two antique mahogany 5 stack barrister bookcases from a Swedish-American Estate. We believe this is from Circa 1930's. You are bidding on one only. Very Difficult for me to photograph.So please take a good look at what I've been able to provide.Basically a VERY STURDY and Completely Structurally Sound Piece.But it being the top people put things on it and it shows the results with some light scratching and wear and most notably what I believe people refer to as water marks,maybe there was a plant set on top and a little liquid spilled over.on the right a spot about 3" by 3 1/2" and just in back of it a spot which varies 1 1/2" to 2" wide by about 17"The spots are not good but they are not terrible either and may very well polish out,this is not in my realm of knowledge and felt it better left untouched by me.ALSO depending on how high you're building your bookcase it may not really matter anyway if it is a Tall Bookcase and out of sight.FRONT and SIDES ... moreare in Nice Decent Presentable Shape.
