I assume ... morethey did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of a quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. Clean or restore the finish on this desk, it is in the condition it was given me in. All in all this desk is in great vintage condition given its age. Top of desk 36 1/2" wide x 24 1/2" deep and the desk top is 29 1/2" above the floor. Will ship via Greyhound Bus to a station of your choice for you to pick up. I have a great Arts and Crafts Movement Oak Book Holder c. 1910-1915. Its made of quarter sawn oak and is heavy for its size. I believe It may be made by Stickley or Limbert but its unsigned. Its in good condition with some wear marks to varnish and one of the screws is a bit loose and could use a bit of glue/epoxy but otherwise in very good condition and functional.

The'shelf' features only one wall/end and has a ramp effect which allows gravity to hold the books in place. Now you can totally show off your favourite book and its cover. BOOK MADE FROM H.M.S. ROYAL GEORGE SALVAGED OAK SUNK 29TH AUGUST 1782. Book made from the timbers of H.M.S. ROYAL GEORGE which sank on 29th August 1782 with the loss of over 800 lives including women and children who were visiting the ship while she was anchored off Portsmouth undergoing routine maintenance work. A number of attempts were made to recover the wreck with minimal success. In October 1839 Royal Engineer Col. Charles Pasley devised a plan to break up the Royal George using gunpowder and then to recover as much of the wreck using divers. Over the following few years the wreck was cleared along with the recovery of 30 guns and a large quantity of the ship's timbers from which this book was made. The book measures 5 1/8" x 3" x 1" and is nicely decorated. As I believe they had a brand called Library Bureau. Its hardware& moldings look similar to some of the Globe styles. In any case. It's a nice bookcase in good shape, with very clean lines, nice golden-oak color and appears to be constructed of mainly quarter-sawn oak with little if any veneer on the main exposed parts(excepting the back of course, and possibly the bottoms inside which look like a clear maple) The finish appears intact, with its age-related character. We've given this a cleaning, you may want to go further with perhaps some steel wool, decades of office-life generally leave these old barristers with their typical use-related'Character' ... moreplease see the photos) which to my eye is all part of the antique. We used this piece for holding antiquarian natural history books and art-books. For which it works excellently. But old Barrister Bookcases are great for displaying many sorts of things, keeping them dust-free& safe. Everything seems to work properly, glass fronts all slide up& back properly, brass knobs are all there etc. This Barrister is a nice sort of mission design in its plain square lines. With slightly rounded moldings which add a touch of'friendliness' to its design. As a modular piece. It's designed to be transported, and can be set up in various heights with either one, two or three of its sections. A very useful, effective& handy Barrister Bookcase. JUST WAXED. NOT REFINISED. original dark oak stain but needs a few hours of work. Note the brake trough on some of the outside tendon joints and missing pegs. Its amazing to look at and a great piece to invest in. its all original but the top shelf has a crack in the center and someone took out the shelf, planed down the part under the crack and cleverly laminated another oak section under the crack- so the top of the top shelf is original. The underside needs to be stained where additional oak was added. By the way in case your not familiar with this the as a retired refinisher the stain you use to match this is MINWAX SPECIAL WALNUT not dark oak- it will match perfectly. Also note the heads of small finshing nails in the top shelf that need to be countersunk and filled. It measures a great height 36" 14 deep x 20 wide. This unit is 14 7/8" wide, 6 1/4" deep and 31 5/8" tall. Both of the shelves are 14" wide" X 5 3/4" deep. It's about 8 1/4" between the shelves and the top shelf has a 3 7/8" backsplash around it. The newspaper-magazine"pockets" are about 8 1/4" deep. It will have some blemishes to the finish(light or dark spots or marks) nicks. I believe this is stickley bros you be the judge. missing one pull. but has hammered copper backing.normal wear. might have been refinished long ago. but maybe orig.it just looks really nice. there is wear to the top as you can see in the top pic photo.inside very clean. A good Edwardian extending set of book ends. Circa 1900& in lovely original condition. Made from solid oak with superb brass mounts they measure approx 12 1/2" wide closed.By 4 3/4" around 22" long fully opened.They have a good colour& patina,they look great& are also a very useful antique aswell. The brass mounts make this example that bit better than the average set of this age.
