These shelves were previously owned by a retired judge for Mercer county. This vintage bookcase is in excellent condition- all shelves have the original glass(wavy from time) original knobs, and all labels are present. The metal side bands are all present and genuine with no rust, and have not had the original patina polished away as some have. This auction is for a neat vintage Arts& Craft Oak Book Trough Magazine- Newspaper Rack from England. It has a book trough on top and a divided newspaper magazine rack on the bottom. It has jacobean accents on the bottom rack front& back and sweet handles at the top of the sides for easy lifting. It's well made and stable and could go in any room of your home. From the edges of the handles it's about 20" wide and about 8 3/8" deep at it's base or"feet" It's about 27 1/4" tall overall. The"trough" is about 16 5/8" wide and the"keepers" are around 4 5/8" wide. The base for magazines has 2 compartments. Each is about 16 5/8" X 2 7/8" and about 9 3/4" deep. It has a medium dark oak patina to it. It has some blemishes to the finish. Some scratches and ... moredings but is rock solid and very well built. Antique Edwardian Oak Book Trough Rest with Ornate Carved Ends
Welcome to my Sale for this beautiful Book Trough with a bit of an unsuaul design. As you can see. The ends and the back rest have been carved, leaving a organic swirl feel, probably from the Edwardian period. It looks to be in Oak but I cannot be sure and has been stained and waxed leaving it quite dark and a little gothic looking. The trough is in good. Sturdy condition though there are signs of wear, namely two scuffs to the bottom rest, as pictured below. There are no chips to any of the carved areas, it is totally complete.
