The is a misson lawyers bookcase from Globe Wernicke. Label says 898 mission oak finish and each of the 4 sections are labeled. I think the finish is fumed oak and is a lovely mission look. 55 inches tall. 11 inches deep and 34 inches wide. 4 sections with a seperate top and bottom. Bottom has a nice drawer. Original finish. Original antique wavy glass. All doors open nicely and have all inside door mechanisms. All hardware is original except for 2 knobs which were replaced at some poit. They were like that when I bought it. Nice shape, light expected wear. Easy to move. If you are in Queens or Brooklyn or manhattan, I could bring the bookcase to you for $45 cash in my highlander. Here’s a 4 stack Globe Wernicke bookcase in beautifully figured quarter sawn oak. It’s complete with top and base. This unit measures 47 ½” high. 34” wide and 11” deep(The top is 12 1/8” deep) Labels in each section read, top to bottom, 108-299 ½, 110-299, D10 ¼-299, 10 ¼-299. These are from my mother’s estate and are in very good condition– probably close to 100 years old, obviously there may be a very minor scuff or nick– but not many. All have the original wavy glass and brass knobs. Metal sidebands are naturally worn, and have a nice uniform patina. The wood has a wonderful patina also. This is a pretty quartered quarter sawn oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacked bookcase. A graduated style with three different heights for each stack; more versatile and functional piece. Each of the stacks have original leaded glass in perfect condition. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth authentic finish. Note the drawer in the base. The original metal'leopard' side bands, original brass pulls, and the beading on the underside of the top. This piece was manufactured by the Macey Co of Grand Rapids, MI(a competitor of Globe Wernicke) Size of the interior of the units is 9.5 deep and 32.0 wide. Quarter-sawn Oak Weis / Globe Barrister Bookcase Desk Organizer
Up for auction is a what I believe is a Weis Barrister Bookcase desk organizer. This organizer is 33"10/16" long x 13.5" tall and 11" deep. Desk organizer is in fantastic shape except for a sliver of wood missing from the back bottom(pictured) A piece of period molding is easily added to the back on both sides to hide the defect. Easy to make a campaign desk or wall desk out of this beautiful piece with some front legs(screw desk to wall. So all you need are two from legs) or add a pair of cast iron and or Oak corbels to support the desk. In any case this will be a beautiful desk when you complete. A good. What I believe is a GLOBE WERNICKE 4 sectional Oak stacking BARRISTER BOOKCASE. In fair CONDITION. I received this note from a viewer: This is an early stack of the Globe Wernicke Company as evidenced by the locking tab on the top.The style of side bands, the early non recessed sides on the top itself. And the closure mechanism. So it IS a GLOBE WERNICKE not a possible one. It is also in the D series line. Most likely a 198 series. I purchased it in 1995 and used it to safely house my rare book collection for almost 20 years. I believe it was refinished before I purchased it. Not the best job done… the refinisher got some glue on the glass of one of the 10” and the 14” unit. I believe it could be razor bladed off. but it never bothered me for what i was using it for. Ideal if you already have one of these bookcase. And want to add ... moremore units. I have seen individual units like these on eBay for $100-150. so, this is a bargin. I am moving and need to find it a good home. But I can always store it until I find the right price. Comes easily apart for a total of 5 pieces. Exterior. 34" wide. 11” deep. 50.75” tall Inside 32” wide. 9.5” depth 2 at 8.25" inside height units with working glass cover. One has glue on glass) 1 at 12" inside height with working glass cover. inexpertly glued corner of glass frame. Has some glue on glass. 1 at 10" inside height unit without a glass cover. Roll Top is in excellent condition. The doors slide nicely. Except the 12" unit sticks a little on the left corner. Would recommend getting this panel repaired. Metal side bands Brass door pulls. Hi. This is a lovely antique quarter sawn oak Barrister Bookcase. Professionally restored keeping in mind the integrity of the piece. No Mfg. Label but Gunn Furniture Company was best known for using the side slide mechanism(which this one has) for the doors rather than the scissor type. Beautiful quarter sawn oak case with 3 stacks and original wavy glass. The top 2 cases are 11 inches high able to hold books 8 1/2 inches high. The bottom case is larger at 15 inches high and able to hold books 13 1/2 inches tall. The case together measures 34 1/4 inches wide and 14 1/2 inches deep including curved over hang top and bottom. I recently bought a number of barristers. This one is absolutely gorgeous. It is not pure quartersawn oak. But shows many quarter sawn pieces. This is a mission styled bookcase which was originally made for the government nearly 75 years ago. It shows some signs of its age. But is still a strong, beautiful, piece of furniture. The base labels are mostly missing. The base is a catalog number 3313-B-10 The finish label that is mostly gone has no usable information. But the coloring matches finish 1938 Special Treasury. The 5 bookcase sections are labelled. There is a finish label that says: FINISH NUMBER 1938 SPECIAL TREASURY There is also a style label that says: CATALOG NUMBER 3313-B. G. Antique Lawyer Barrister Bookcase in figured English Oak
Greetings from Camden. Maine. This is an antique barristers bookcase in beautiful shape. It is very old but in great shape with a lovely, consistent semi-gloss finish on bright, heavily figured, solid-wood English oak cabinetry. The workmanship is excellent. This is the piece you want. It's functional, warm, and makes a tall, distinguished statement wherever it is situated. I don't know the exact vintage but am thinking early 20th century. Glass all intact. Hinge-work, articulated armatures for lifting and stowing panel windows is all functional. Even the tiny pulls are figured oak. Fortunately, this antique is completely modular/ stacking(with small dowels for registration at each tier) and can be shipped anywhere in lower 48 safely in six or seven pieces. Even the cornice and base with two drawers are structurally separate enabling ... moreeasy mobility, set-up, relocation, etc. Dimensions are: 54" wide, 12" deep, 17" deep at base portion(floor level) approx 67" tall. It is not the Globe Wernicke antique version. This piece is in gently used condition. There are some minor marks along the baseboard of the piece. Glass is very clean and free from scratches. This is an antique three-stack barrister bookcase with base and cap produced by the Grand Rapids Desk Company in Muskegon. Michigan. All glass is intact, and doors work. The bookcase stands well and holds a full load. Bottom of three shelves pictured here has modest water damage and lacks a top brace(See images) This does not impede use. And is not noticeable when full of books. Previous owned stripped the original finish with the intent of refinishing. It remains stripped with bare oak exposed- which is rich in color and pattern. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa early 1900s Globe-Wernicke Sectional Bookcase. This is an original matching unit- all sections are Globe-Wernicke 298-1/2. The lower section is a number 112 D 12-1/4" The middle a 110 D 10-1/4" and the upper a 108 D 8-1/2" These are all standard sized sections which are most desired as the more narrow sections have far less room. The bookcase stands approx 47" tall. 34" wide, and approx 12-1/2" at the base. It weighs roughly 75 lbs as it sits. It is in very good original condition- some minor age and use wear but overall a nice example. It is not perfect- there are a few areas of minor wear and such. Up for consideration is a fine Oak Arts Crafts 4 stack barristers or stacking bookcase. The bookcase stands 50 1/2 inches tall by 34 inches wide. Each Stack is labelled with a paper label to the interior. Each Section is stacked on the other and they are different dimensions. The bottom section being 15 inches tall the two center sections being 13 inches tall and the top one being 11 inches. The depth is 11 inches deep and the overall depth at the feet is 12 1/2 inches. The bookcase has a patent date on the door sliding mechanism of 1908. The finish is excellent. It is original dark brown varnish with extra clean interior coloration.
