I assume ... morethey did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of a quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. Clean or restore the finish on this desk, it is in the condition it was given me in. All in all this desk is in great vintage condition given its age. Top of desk 36 1/2" wide x 24 1/2" deep and the desk top is 29 1/2" above the floor. Will ship via Greyhound Bus to a station of your choice for you to pick up. Features slab sides, two mullioned doors and a framed gallery top. Nice quartersawn oak(shelves are plainsawn/ rift) Brass hardware. New wood caster wheels. The pins are intact. Supporting three adjustable shelves. Wavy glass. Paper label and ink-stamped production number are on the back. There is a push button knob on the right door. And a clever roller latch/ throw bolt system at the top/bottom of both doors. When the right door is opened, the left is simultaneously released. When the right door is shut it forces the throw bolts on the left door to extend into the wood frame at the top and bottom, securing both doors shut. This is from the quartersawn oak models(many of them had claw-footed bases and vertical veneer drawers) Very hard to find item. As you can see in photos. The label is embossed in the wood. I am not sure what letter size this is, but the dimensions seem to correspond with size D. Overall measures approx: 34" long x 12 2/16" deep x 3 2/16" high Underside frame that fits onto the case measures approx: 34" long x 11 1/2" deep As shown in photos. This is in used condition and has damage. The front profile looks very good for its age and should blend very well with well kept bookcases. The top veneer has damage with a hole in it, which could be covered with display items, ... moreor repaired. You could patch the hole on the over- or underside with something like luan, or you could do a more professional patch involving tiger oak veneer, etc. I am not a specialist so I am not sure all that is involved in that) This damage is reflected in the price and the item is being sold AS IS. I have shown extensive photos of the item including close ups of the damage so make sure to ask all questions because sales are final. Remember. Since this is the top of a bookshelf, you will likely rest items on it to cover imperfections, or it will be so high up that no one will see it. The rest of the top looks to be in normal used condition for its age. Antique mission oak barrister 2 stack bookcase refinished outside painted inside
This 2 section barrister bookcase has been refinished on the outside maybe 20 years ago and painted on the inside and on the back in a blue/grey sort of color. Probably done at the same time as the finish. The spots that might have revealed the maker name have paint on them so I am selling it as maker unknown. In addition to the 2 sections, it comes with the original top or crown, and a base with drawer. It also features metal side straps between each section and the scissor mechanism for the doors. No problems with the 2 glass doors. In fact, I see no problems at all. With the square straight legs it is very mission looking and being from about 100 years ago, I think we can safely call it authentic mission furniture in every way except the finish, although a lot of mission furniture WAS this color when it was new. The joints are all tight ... moreand all sections lock together easily and correctly. While only a 2 stack, it is a big 2 stack with each section able to take books as much as 13 1/2 inches tall. The over all measurement are 34 inches wide as most of these are, and with base and crown a total of 45 inches tall. It is a full 14 inches deep from knobs to back. Early paper label dates to it being manufactured before 1907 in Grand Rapids. Michigan before they opened their factory in nearby Holland. Original dark fumed oak finish. Push button handle and wavy glass. Two adjustable shelves w/ the 8 original metal shelf support pins. Very good condition. Oak is undamaged and in clean condition. Sturdy w/out any looseness. Very minor wear to the dark fumed finish. Of course there are some minor issues.there is a seam separation on the top. And a slight offset seam at the top of the right slab side panel. Made out of quarter sawn old oak(see pictures) and is sturdy. Wonderful patina! Overall it is in great condition. The front right board has some wood loss at the bottom. It appears to have been natural. Then yellow and now green. Underneath it all is great old oak. Measures 40" x 8-1/2" x 22-3/4" The top shelf is at 36-1/2" and they all measure 8-1/2" x 22-1/4" The corner boards measure 1-1/2" x 3/4" A nice addition to anyone's arts and crafts collection.
