Its styling detals indicate that it originated in the Netherlands or possibly Belgium. The exposed woodwork is a mix of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. It has a recent professionally done restoration and it is in excellent antique/restored condition. All parts are straight and solid and fit together as they should. The doors open and close smoothly. There is no indication that major repairs were done during restoration-it is all old. Original wood with no woodworm or dry rot and also all old, original hardware. This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey. Other than that, it’s all original, dating from the 1850s era. It has all the original hand-chamfered backboards on it. It starts with an ogee molded crown top, and has two beautiful wavy glass doors with two shelves inside, two hand-cut dovetail drawers, a flip down flame mahogany matched veneer lid that opens to reveal a green felt writing surface, which we have replaced, and pencil trays on the side. The top drawer opens to support the writing surface. Below that are two more large drawers with wooden knobs and traditional elephant style scroll feet. The overall size is 43.5 inches wide on the base, 21 inches deep, 32 inches high to the writing surface, and an unusually tall 83 inches high overall. It’s in mind-boggling condition for a piece this old. There only minor chips here and there, and it has an amazing patina. This desk comes in two sections for transport. A very nice antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, mahogany solid, mahogany veneers, and mahogany stained maple, two door bookcase. There are eight adjustable shelves, with grooves for plates if desired. There are two ogee drawers with brass knobs below bookcase. The case is on casters. Bookcase measures 64" tall by 48" wide by 14" deep, each shelf 11-1/4" deep by 22" wide. Excellent condition: has been refinished, no chips or cracks to solids or veneers. Glass panel in right door is new replacement.

I thought it was a wall mounted unit, but looking at it closer, it could be wall mounted, but it never been mounted to a wall. It's a neat little unit. The shelves are higher in the front and slant lower to the back, which makes the books stay back in the shelves. As you see, it looks great up against a wall, but by either adding mounts on the back or drilling a couple of holes, it would make a neat wall mounted unit. Each shelf has a"backstop" across the back to keep books for sliding through. This one is in overall good condition without any rot or worm damage. 1840-60 EMPIRE PERIOD FLAME MAHOGANY SECRETARY WITH BOOKCASE & DOVETAIL DRAWER
First. The pictures do not do justice to this beautiful piece of work. It's an Empire period Flame Mahogany Secretary with a 2-Door bookcase above and single drawer below. This piece was estimated to have been made in the middle 1800's and is in remarkable condition. The inside 2 drawers are hand dove-tailed. The bottom wide drawer is hand dove-tailed as well. The bead work along the front doors and along the top is in excellent condition and beautifully done. This great piece of furniture shows signs of age as you can see in the close up picture of the zipper-like crackle in the veneer along the side, but, there is no separation. The desk measures 80" at the peak, is 39" wide and is mounted on 4 turned legs. The depth at the top is 11" and is 18-1/2" for the drawer section. One picture shows the top of the piece ... moreand another shows the 4 separate boards which form the back. Those individual board widths measure 12" 12" 19" 8" There is a'hook' latch along the side that holds the writing platform in an upright position. This listing is for local pickup only.
