1920-1940 Mahogany Secretary Desk Bookcase with Drawers
Love the compartments inside this 1920-1940 mahogany secretary desk bookcase! There are 3 shelves inside and the glass doors that have lovely fretwork. The 4 claw feet are vintage worn. The drawers form a really nice serpentine base. The drawers open and close easily and have their original hardware. The goose neck or swan neck arch pediment on top has a middle finial which we are re-attaching. When the desk is opened there are 6 sleeves. 3 serpentine drawers and one"secret compartment" behind the door in the middle. The outside of the drop down desktop is lighter in color than the rest of the piece and really adds a nice depth. The desk was loved and used; the wood is worn. The large single door opens to reveal four fixed shelves, and an drawer to the base with original pull handles. The shelves are VERY generous, so large display items can be accommodated. The piece has a shaped skirt and stands on elegant carved cabriole legs. This gorgeous cabinet is a rare combination of some ornate features on a basically straight-line piece- beautiful to look at. It provides enormous storage space. For collections, books, linen or the like. The carved top feature is truely lovely- with carved rosettes and curved form. The display cabinet measures 105cm wide on the body and 114cm at its widest point. 55cm deep in the cupboard area and 61cm deep at it's greatest depth. Here is a very handsome and seven foot tall Empire Revival period solid mahogany bookcase with some gorges figured and feathered veneer. The arched original glass doors add an elegant touch. Open the doors and find a grain painted interior with three adjustable shaped shelves. The base contains two deep hand dovetailed drawers with original wooden pulls. The"case" or the top section is also dovetailed construction. This bookcase has the nice rounded edges and the simple crown with the lovely figured veneer. Maddox Company of NY Antique Mahogany Secretary Desk. Book Shelf Top. Measures 83.5" height, 36" wide, 18.5" deep. There are a few scratches, the worst being on the top of desk where the bookshelf sits, see last pic. It is missing the finial on the top center. There are 7 original handle pulls, the bottom 2 are missing the bale. There is one that doesn't match. There is also a strip of wood that was broken where the lock goes on the top of the desk, you can only see it if the desk is open. See pic#5 Other than the mentioned issues. This beautiful piece of furniture resided in a New Orleans French Quarter hotel. Until the hotel was demolished in the 1980's. Purchased in the 80's, this handsome piece became part of a North Carolina estate. This mahogany Desk-and-Bookcase is of English origin. Dating to the fourth quarter of the 19th c. This 3-part cabinet measures approximately 9ft. 3in. tall, 79in. in width and 30in. in depth. The serpentine desk section has 3 drawers lined in black velvet. The ornate figural hardware is bronze. And with door"equalizers" which later versions did not have. Made by Globe-Wernicke Co, Cincinnati, OH in extremely rare mahogany, which was the company's most expensive grade. Remarkable, beautiful condition for being over 100 years old. All glass is original too, except for the bottom door. Never refinished or in any other way modified. This has been in my family since it was purchased new by my great-grandparents. Specs: 1. Early gold label version. Dating it to 1899-1910. H as“equalizers” on each door. Which are folding metal spring rods to keep the doors from pulling off and to allow them to swing upward and slide into each section, getting the doors out ... moreof the way. Antique Mahogany Breakfront Display Cabinet Bookcase Adjustable Glass Shelves
Many great features combine to make this breakfront display cabinet a stunning piece of furniture. Starting at the top molded arched decorations below that gives the piece an elegant finished look. The four doors are astragal glazed glass. Astragal refers to the fact that each door is made up of 13 individual panes of glass. Inside each section houses two fully adjustable glass shelves making it perfect for display. This is hard to find in glass shelving.
