The great thing about these is their flexibility with the adjustable shelf system so you can store items of different sizes. The base has 4 deep filing drawers that are dovetailed. Solid and run freely on metal runners and have metal rails for suspension files(included are some fairly new suspension files) The drawers have beaded edges and metal swan neck style handles. This is a very nice revolving tabletop shelf. It could be for small books or nic nacs. It is 15 1/2" tall by 12" wide. The cubby holes are 6 1/2"x6" In comes in two parts. The top shelves(photos 1 to 10) that swivel on the base(photo 11 and 12) I took different shades of the top piece to show how it was constructed and that there are two seperations between boards, but book case is very sturday, not loose. American Centennial Mahogany Chippendale Bookcase China Closet Ball& Claw Feet Circa 1880's Being presented for sale is this beautiful mahogany bookcase/ china closet which is referred to as Centennial furniture. In the late 19th century the United States was celebrating our 100 year birthday as a Nation by acknowledging the earlier styles and periods of furniture. Early furniture styles as Chippendale and Queen Anne were duplicated and custom made during this time and since. Have been referred to as Centennial furniture. This fine Mahogany Bookcase china closet has many of the same elements found period 18th century Chippendale furniture. The bookcase/ china portion features a crown molding of beautiful crotch mahogany. Two tall glass doors with the original glass and hatched designed panes, the three original adjustable shelves ... moreinside, two storage drawers below each have their original locks and heavy cast pulls with key escutcheons and the drawer ends are all hand dovetailed. The bookcase china portion rests on boldly carved ball and claw feet with carved acanthus leaves on the knees and a lovely carved apron below the drawers. The finish appears to be all original and in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and desirable patina. This piece measures 75 inches high by 48 inches wide and 15 inches deep and weighs approximately 115 lbs. This cabinet does separate into 2 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. Each of the three shelves measures 40 inches long by 8 1/2 inches deep. This cabinet does have a key which works the doors but not the drawers. The brass inserted key escutcheon is missing on the door and the very top of the molding does present with a couple of veneer chips. Which neither of these things distracts from the elegant presence this piece has.
