Macey Co. Map Surveyor's Case Antique Furniture Piece Grand Rapids MI
This is a very rare map case used in what I presume to be a Minnesota County Office or Reality Office. There was old business cards in it from Ryan Realty in Minneapolis. MN. This is a beautiful piece that could be re-purposed for end tables or coffee tables. It is very cool in that it already breaks apart into four separate stackable pieces. Or what it really deserves, probably, is to be put in a history museum to hold old documents. I believe it to be made by The Macey Co. which operated in Grand Rapids, MI from 1896 to 1940. The different colors shown in the pics is with or without the flash on. Also, one of the legs is broken but would easily be replaced. Still displays well. Macey bookcases have an interesting history. Otto Wernicke of Grand Rapids patented the original elastic bookcase around 1892 and produced them in his own plant under the Wernicke name until around 1902. That's when he formed a partnership with Globe in Cincinnati and bookcases using his patent were produced under the Globe-Wernicke label. However, Wernicke was not happy with arrangement so he went back to Grand Rapids and purchased the factory owned by Fred Macey in 1905 calling it the Macey-Wernicke Co which was shortened to just Macey in 1907. Original Oak Arts& Crafts/ Mission Barrister Stacking Lawyer Bookcase Top by Macey(like Globe. Ogee, etc. This is an original Macey bookcase top. This is from the quartersawn oak models(many of them had claw-footed bases and vertical veneer drawers) Very hard to find item. As you can see in photos. The label has worn off some, but you can still make out the Macey name. I am not sure what letter size this is, but the dimensions seem to correspond with size D. Overall measures approx: 34" long x 15" deep x 3 2/16" high Underside frame that fits onto the case measures approx: 34" long x 14" deep As shown in photos. This is in used condition and shows wear. The front profile looks very good for its age and should blend very well with well kept bookcases. The top veneer shows more wear than the front with discoloration, ... morenicks and scratches and some splits, but if this is an issue, you could rejuvenate it with stain and oil/ shellac/ polyurethane. If you want a uniform look, you could lightly sand the entire surface and then add stain, plus sealant. However, because this is the top of a bookshelf you will likely rest items on it to cover imperfections, or it will be so high up that no one will see it. The rest of the top looks to be in normal used condition for its age. Some nails have pushed out and may need to be gently hammered back in place(though I think I got all of them) Please examine close ups of all photos and ask all questions. Questions? Remember. MACEY ONE PIECE OAK FILE FILING CABINET DCUMNT & BIG CARD FILE SECTIONS
FOLKS, It's been 3 years since we been lucky enough to have a"one piece" MACEY Tiger Oak File with interchangeable sections of various file styles. The grain pattern of the tiger oak are awesome. The finish has a medium rich honey hue. I believe this is an early model because the cuts of the solid tiger appear a little thicker than others we've had. There are two sections with two document holders with compression panels. The other two sections each have rare filing drawers measuring from the inside 11 1/4" wide. 4 3/4" high and 17 1/2" deep with compression panels also. Overall dimensions of this treasure are 15" wide. 21" deep and 55" high. Just remove the screw on the top of each section and you can change where the sections go for your preference! The the solid brass hardware is original ... moreand is all there. The"Macey" decal is top and center and a bit faded from over 100 year of use. Professionally palleted crating. This is an especially nice four drawer quartersawn oak filing cabinet. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth and even finish. Manufactured by the Macey Company which was known for their fine quality office furniture. This piece has the original brass pulls and label holders. Also has the original wood paper holder or followers on the interior of the drawers. Interestingly. Three of the drawers still have the early paper alphabetic dividers remaining. Antique Bookcase BARRISTER BOOKCASE MISSION OAK MACEY. Famous Maker 3 SECTIONS SOLID OAK Offered is a nice Mission Oak bookcase with lift-up and slide-in glass doors which are all in working condition. Each section is marked with the Macey trade mark. It is solid and sturdy. It stands evenly on the floor. The windows have antique wavy glass and there are NO breaks. The sections are graduated in size(9" 11" 13" this is a nice feature for storing different size books. Sections are interchangeable allowing for larger books on top or on the bottom. The buyer can take this bookcase home& use it. I can't say how long we have had these bookcases but can say they are a quality set and will have a major effect on a room when it comes to decorating. The bookcase has a removable top lid or crown, 3 stackable sections with glass doors, and a base. The first pictures were taken in natural room light and show the bookcase in as close to original color as possible, if the photos seem a little blurry it's because we used the night setting on the camera. The brighter photos were taken with a flash. The bookcase is all original& retains all original parts, glass, knobs, sections. The condition is above average to better. It does need a polishing but that is minor. There are minor surface rub marks& use marks. There are no structural problems, the top lid's surface is solid wood& not the usual veneer, the wood is quartered oak(what ever that is) and shows a lot of grain through-out the cabinet& doors. There are no repairs. Buyers are welcome to see the bookcase before purchase, we are 75 miles north of NYC& located between Albany-Binghamtom-NYC. antique rare form macey's quartersawn oak stacking file cabinet 4 door wow base
someone has requested that i list this piece. it has been at the farm house for a few decades. anyway. This is for you joe. i have always liked the rare and unusual pieces and that is what i primarily collect. i have seen this model a few times 30 years ago, but i have not seen one exactly like it sell for many years, but i don't see everything that sells, so perhaps there has been 200 sold in the last month, but from years of experience, i don't think these are very plentiful in this particular century. anyway, this is a rare form macey stack file cabinet. it a base that is 24 inches tall, 24 inches deep and 44 inches wide with 4 doors all solid quartersawn oak. inside the base or cabinet it has holes drilled for mounting one shelf across each 1/2 of the base, the base has a solid divider. anyway, i did not find the shelves when ... morei gathered this piece up. they are bound to be somewhere, if i don't find them i will make shelves to go in them. the best i remember the shelves were laminates or pine. anyway, that is a minor deal. it has two locks which secure each 1/2 of the base which i can't find the key for, but will have one made. no one has lived in the farm house for about 18 years now so the entire piece was covered in dust and dirt, enough to grow corn in. i have only cleaned it. it is presented in original finish with wonderful patina. on the base is a stack of 8 file drawers, on top of it is another, and on top of the second is two sections of files which are 4 drawers each. all the files are solid quartersawn oak. each file drawer has its original handle and each still retains its paper or file blocker or stop and the rod it slides on. the file stacks are 12 inches tall, 16 inches deep, and 44 inches wide with the exception of the top two which are the same height and depth but 22 inches each wide which of course makes the pair to fit and match at 44 inches. there is no wiggle or wobble to this piece in anyway. the joints as you can see are dovtailed on the top portion of the base and also

Here you are bidding on an"Antique Macey's Oak Barrister/Lawyers 5 Section Bookcase" This is a real beauty. It consists of four shelf sections and a fifth crown top. It has the metal strappings on its sides. Two sections are 10 inch and two are 12 inch. The glass doors open and close properly. It has the Macey's logo on one of the sections. It is 49 inches high x 12 inches deep x 34 inches wide. The finish is really nice with the exception of a few stains on its top. There are two knobs missing.
