Rare, Antique Shaw Walker Barrister Bookcase, glass front, 3 piece Pick up, SHIP
Rare. Highly collectible Antique Barrister bookcase from the reputable Shaw Walker company. Stackable 3 piece, glass fronts. I am not sure of the type of wood, either cherry or mahogany- this piece is from the early 1900's- it has been well preserved and taken care of. The front and sides have been painted with a black Ethan Allen paint to match the other furniture we have- the inside of each unit and the back has not been painted. The measurements are about 49 1/2 inches tall(stacked with the 3 pieces) 34 inches width, and the depth is 11 1/2 inches. The top has a small scratch in the paint that measures a few inches, but the wood is not scratched as far as I can see. You can either touch up this paint scratch or remove the paint all together and restore to the orginal wood. Crafted of solid golden mahogany, the top a single thick plank edged by carved molding over two levels of bookshelves. These are set at two distinct heights(10" top, 12" bottom) that allow it to comfortably hold most average size books. The sides are crafted of four shaped mahogany slats, each secured to the case with rounded screws, achieving the breezy and transparent overall aura associated with most fine pieces of the Edwardian period. The entire case spins with remarkable ease on thick dowel system inside of the case, presumably utilizing some kind of bearing inside for to account for the smoothness ... moreof the rotation(we have not taken it apart to see exactly what the mechanism is inside, but it is very strong and very smooth) This rests over four splayed feet locked together with a forged iron cross, resting over original caster wheels. This is the perfect decorator piece for any library or study. But with it's airy proportions still being very desirable in the living room beside a large couch. It is a gorgeous piece that was built to last generations, something that you will certainly enjoy in your home for a lifetime. Antique Mission Quartersawn Oak Hale/Macey Barrister Bookcase
Great old barrister. All oak in original finish. Good patina. Some alligatoring on one shelf inside. Measures 34 1/2 wide. 12" deep and 45 1/2" tall. Bottom shelf is tallest at 14 1/4" and is labelled Macey 912. Top one carries a Hale label and is 10 1/2" tall. Center one is the same as top but is unsigned. I am certain it too is Hale. Bookcase is banded with what appears to be copper and a hammered/leopard appearance. The two top sections were scissored at one time. Hooks are there. Metal scissors are not. Glass doors do move properly despite this. All glass appears to be original. There is some warping of the wood panels in the back. Just a sign of age and has no affect on appearance or performance. Originally crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century and altered during the first quarter of the 20th Century. It was probably a more plain version of the rather fine piece we see today. Altered to suit the appetite for high-style pieces during the first quarter of the 20th Century. Crafted of mahogany veneers with pine and oak secondaries, the case features two over three graduated drawers with replaced brasses over bold oversized bracket feet. The slant front drops over original hinges to rest on extending lopers, revealing a large mahogany writing surface with six document drawers over two long-thin drawers flanked on either ... moreside by an inverted graduated stack of drawers- this is a rather unusual feature, the graduation going from largest on the top to smallest on the bottom. Here’s one beautiful fireplace mantle which was removed from a home in Pittsburgh Pa. This old tiger oak mantle is in good vintage condition. It measures approximately 77” x 60” x 15 1/2" HxWxD) The fireplace or firebox opening measures approximately 41 1/2” x 38” H x W) The two bookshelf openings measures approximately 28 1/2” x 17” x 8 1/2 deep(H x W x D) I belive this one may even date back more than 100 years ago. The flaws are minor.there is a crack in the one lower leg but it only shows up in the photo because I held it spread open. Made of quartersawn oak. These barrister bookcase parts include a top, base, and two side pieces. The condition is very good with a bit of thinning of the veneer on the left side of the top. This should be visible in the second picture. We have, also, photographed the top sitting on the base so that you can see they are compatible. This was, probably, Globe Wernicke, however, there is no label to confirm that. The top is 34" wide and 12" deep. The base is 34" wide 12 1/2 inches deep and 6 3/4 inches high. The side pieces each measure 12 3/16" wide X 15 1/16 high.

J2957 This is a oak 3 section bookcase with sliding doors circa 1905. It was manufactured by the Danner Company around the turn of the century. John Danner specialized in manufacturing office furniture. It has a extra large and deep lower section that provides 11 inches deep by 22 inches high and 17 inches wide of clearance. The 2 top sections have 9 inches deep of clearance which is standard. All three sections have adjustable shelves. The lower section has a pull out shelf. The bookcase also has a bottom drawer. The top crown section has"egg and dart" trim. The piece has"leaded" glass doors with some beveled pieces. These are really hard to find with all the options on this model. Overall it is 16 inches deep. 37 inches wide across the front, and 85 1/2 inches tall. The fluted columns look great! All of the shelves are fully adjustable. Note the four pegs that hold the center piece to the side. This is how most of the armoire is held together. This latch secures the left door. The geometric designs on the lower portion of the doors is a traditional feature of pieces made in Brittany. These turned feet are solid oak and very sturdy.
