This outstanding stacking desk bookcase ... moreis one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through the entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. From an estate sale. A 5-section barriester bookcase with base and top. The top 3 sections are regular bookcases, the bottom two sections each have 3 file cabinet drawers. Patent date 1917. Overall outside dimensions are 41.5" wide, 17" deep, and 79" tall. The inside dimensions of the bookcase shelf: 15.5" between the back and the back face of the door, 40" wide, and 10" tall to the bottom of the door when it is rolled up- that is, the*useful* height that you could fit a book in. I did some google research and couldn't find a standard size the corresponded to these dimensions. So they may be a custom unit. Very deep, but pretty short. There's nail holes on the fronts of the file drawers, looks like they used to have handles, and probably also brass frames for putting a label in. So you might want to replace ... morethose. This auction is for a rare Globe Wernicke stacking bookcase w/ secretary desk section barrister- quartersawn oak. It is 49" tall. 12" deep and 34" across. The desk part is 13.5" tall, the mid glass section is 9.5" tall, the bottom glass is 13.25" and the base with the pull out drawer is 6.75" tall. This is in nice shape. The top does has some stains and spotting, the back does as well. The secretary desk part looks complete and the working key is also included. This door also has the old wavy glass.wood has a nice patina probably oak. Up for your consideration is this very nice antique bookcase I purchased at an estate/consignment auction. It is around 51" high. 34" wide and 11" deep. It has glass pulls which I don't know if they are original or not. The stacks come apart easily and I can't find anything wrong with the piece. It does have a few nicks/scratches but nothing significant. Glass appears to be original. Could use a good cleaning but felt that was better done by the buyer. This is a pickup only but I would be glad to deliver to a shipping company in Cedar Rapids. Waterloo or Dubuque if the buyer contacts the shipper and arranges for the delivery.

Has the step back board, compatible with"E" or"D" size stacks. Quarter sawn oak. Uses a hinge/slide system nearly identical to the early Globe system. NO door knob or glass. With a few bottom parts this would drop right onto a Globe or Macey base. As you can see in the last picture a Globe top(or section) fits nicely on top. The Globe top in the picture is NOT included. The bottom board has been broken then nailed back on backwards, it looks bad like it is but simply needs to be flipped and glued. Measures about 34" on the underside between the bands and about 10 1/2" from the back to the beginning of the overhang part, these we believe are fairly standard size, not sure which measurements are important so please let us know what you may need checked, we will not take a return if it does not fit and we were not asked. This is a Globe-Wernicke Barrister bookcase. Made out of real MAHOGANY. It stands 48" tall by 33" wide. It consists of a top section w/ tag. 3" tall. the next section down also has tag w/ orig. glass that lifts and slides open. Mechanics are perfect. Its 10 1/2" tall. The next section down, has 2 sliding doors w/ glass, one pane is orig. the other looks to have been replaced. There are no tags for this section. And I have looked over 1000's of pictures on the internet and have not seen another like it! With the sliding doors. This section is 24" tall. It also has an adjustable shelf. The shelf is oak. The glass looks to be original and is intact. The piece was cared for well by the previous owner. But has some condition issues(small marks/scratches, chips in wood/veneer, the veneer on the back of the bookcase is warping/peeling off a bit and damaged, the pull is bent; see photos) It appears that the back has been replaced, so that is why the tag is missing.
