It has three glass doored sections for books(the top section is 8 1/2" high. The middle section is 10 1/4" high. And the bottom section is 12 1/4" high according to the original labels.please see photos provided) The outside dimension of the bookcase is 51"s high. 11 1/4"s deep, and 34"s wide. Each section is marked with the Globe Werneike trade mark. It is solid and sturdy. It stands evenly on the floor. The windows have antique wavy glass and there are NO breaks. The bookcase is a step-back bookcase- meaning the bottom section is deeper then the rest and extends forward. This is a nice feature for storing larger books. The only other detail is the rear of the bookcase it is not attractive. No explanation- it's just that way- some sections of the laminate backing have opened. We were going to give the back a coat of varnish but never did. We are no longer cleaning up furniture- we are clearing out our inventory. I=The section has all the door hardware and scissor mechanism ans opens with ease. The door has the original brass knob. The section also has the original antique wavy glass and bands around the base of the section. The back is in excellent condition with no rippling or warping of the wood. All doors have their original scirror mechanisims and they have there original side rails for the doors to operate. Each door opens with ease. All sectiosn have antique wavy original glass with original knobs. The base has a very desrieable drawer. The quartersawn oak grain is outstanding. Very light wear to the top. ULTRA RARE GLOBE WERNICKE DESK WITH BOOKCASE AND DRAWER BASE IN SOLID QUARTERED OAK AND EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL CONDITION With the highest compliments we could possibly pay to any piece we are thrilled to offer you one of two hundred ever made by the Globe Wernicke Company slant lid desk with a model D-12 1/4" bookcase mid section and matched Globe Wernicke drawer base. Only a small handful of these ever survived. This model was owned by the Bethlehem Steel Company and used as a then start of the art portable office for various clerical employees duties when their jobs required their moving around the massive plants' building and grounds. The entire desk is in a mint model 299 original finish. Please excuse the shade on the piece in our pictures. The shadows cast by the shade did not appear so pronounced in the camera's picture ... morereview. In ingenuity of this desk's design by Globe Wernicke is in its portability. The front French flared legs are fastened by two braces on each side. They come right off and the desk breaks down into three pieces for ease of move. Virtually the only place you can see this desk is in the old Globe Wernicke product catalogs. Local Pick Up Only. Globe 10 sections/shelves that all match. Gold band. Mahogany color. Top and bottom are missing. However pictured are tops and bottoms from Globe or Macey that do fit. The color on the two bases and one top is more brown than mahogany. So I figure what happen is that the tops and bottoms were misplaced on the wrong stack over the years. Replacement Oak Arts & Crafts Barrister Stacking Lawyer Bookcase Top Macey Globe
Original Oak Arts& Crafts/ Mission Barrister Stacking Lawyer Bookcase Top by Macey(like Globe. Ogee, etc. This is an original Macey bookcase top. This is from the quartersawn oak models(many of them had claw-footed bases and vertical veneer drawers) Very hard to find item. As you can see in photos. The label has worn off some, but you can still make out the Macey name. I am not sure what letter size this is, but the dimensions seem to correspond with size D. Overall measures approx: 34" long x 15" deep x 3 2/16" high Underside frame that fits onto the case measures approx: 34" long x 14" deep As shown in photos. This is in used condition and shows wear. The front profile looks very good for its age and should blend very well with well kept bookcases. The top veneer shows more wear than the front with discoloration, ... morenicks and scratches and some splits, but if this is an issue, you could rejuvenate it with stain and oil/ shellac/ polyurethane. If you want a uniform look, you could lightly sand the entire surface and then add stain, plus sealant. However, because this is the top of a bookshelf you will likely rest items on it to cover imperfections, or it will be so high up that no one will see it. The rest of the top looks to be in normal used condition for its age. Some nails have pushed out and may need to be gently hammered back in place(though I think I got all of them) Please examine close ups of all photos and ask all questions. Questions? Remember. This is a rare double wide colonial barrister that comes apart for a total of 6 seperate pieces. The wood is Mahogany and is grade 598 1/2 the finest they made.
