A 5 stack Globe Wernicke Grade 598 solid mahogany with rich finish barrister with brass trim. 7 pieces including the top and base. All original wavy glass with old brass knobs and bands around each section. Each section is labeled with the stickers. The bottom is a stepback unit and has an unusually big section which is labeled E. This refers to the size and is desireable at 13 1/2 inches deep and very tall. Can accomodate large law books. Photo albums and collectibles. There is slight wear to the top cap piece which is in one of the photos. Someone may have left a plant on top and the ring from water appeared. No damage to wood here just finish. It cannot be seen when the bookcase is together. On the base there is some wear on the right side that looks like it happened maybe 20 years ago and a 3-4 inch metal band is missing. This barrister top is from a bookcase in an old library. It ids quite large. Measuring 41 1/4" wide and 17 1/4" deep. The finish looks original. It has some wear as shown, but I think it could be improved with some wax and time. There is some separation to the seam on the top where the veneer sections meet. Up for Sale A sturdy. Vintage Globe-Wernicke Co. Mission style Barrister Bookcase from the early 1900's that has been in my family for years. It has three glass doored sections for books(the top section is 8 1/2" high. The middle section is 10 1/4" high. And the bottom section is 12 1/4" high according to the original labels.please see photos provided) The outside dimension of the bookcase is 51"s high. 11 1/4"s deep, and 34"s wide. The glass and the metal mechanism that opens the windowed bookcase sections is all original and in working order. The base has feet. Antique Bookcase BARRISTER BOOKCASE GLOBE WERNIEKE 4 SECTIONS SOLID OAK Offered is a nice bookcase with lift-up and slide-in glass doors which are all in working condition. Each section is marked with the Globe Werneike trade mark. It is solid and sturdy. It stands evenly on the floor. The windows have antique wavy glass and there are NO breaks. The bookcase is a step-back bookcase- meaning the bottom section is deeper then the rest and extends forward. This is a nice feature for storing larger books. The only other detail is the rear of the bookcase it is not attractive. No explanation- it's just that way- some sections of the laminate backing have opened. We were going to give the back a coat of varnish but never did. We are no longer cleaning up furniture- we are clearing out our inventory. The windows lift up and slide in and they ... morecan easily be lifted out& removed. The buyer can take this bookcase home& use it. I can't say how long we have had these bookcases but can say they are a quality set and will have a major effect on a room when it comes to decorating. They can't help but get a lot of attention. I=The section has all the door hardware and scissor mechanism ans opens with ease. The door has the original brass knob. The section also has the original antique wavy glass and bands around the base of the section. The back is in excellent condition with no rippling or warping of the wood. It fits with all globe D sizes and macey sections. Reaal nice dark quartersawn oak finish. No surprises. I would prefer local pick up but would look into shipping. First and foremost I am not a collector or knowledgable of this type of item. Please look closely at photos and ask questions if needed. I can send additional photos upon request. This is for one antique Globe-Wernicke set of two bookcase/cabinet pieces. Top and the bottom piece. What you see in the pic is what you get. The cabinet on the top does have the label. It reads" Globe-Wernicke Sectional Bookcase Made in Cincinnati Standard D-10 1/4 unit pattern 110 grade 598 1/2. The bottom cabinet piece does not have a label/ makers mark but it is identical to the top. The hardware looks fairly old. Does show age and wear. There are scratches and scuffs on wood. I would refinish it unless you like the look. Glass is chip and crack free. Cabinets open and close with ease. A very pretty piece that was in my Uncle's farm estate I inherited ... morethat I need to down size. Again not a collector so please ask questions if needed.
