This is a really nice four door quartersawn oak bookcase-2 glass doors and 2 blind doors. When I original purchased this cabinet I thought it was a Danner sliding door bookcase. I am not so sure of that. May have been made by another company(Globe) but has the same type operation. Two doors on each stackable section slide back and forth. Adjustable shelf in each section. We have refinished this piece and it is in excellent condition with a smooth and even finish. Original wavy glass and also note the brass handles-rather Arts& Crafts style I would say. Also from the same estate I purchase an almost identical unit but it has four glass doors, two on each section-my stock number 14477. Sir(Sydney) Gordon Russell(1892-1982) was one of the most important figures in the history of 20th century furniture. From his early Cotswold Arts and Crafts furniture. To the modernist antique desks of the post-war period, he managed to embrace mass production and mechanization without losing the underlying concepts of high quality craftsmanship. The history of his antique cabinets, tables, chairs and concept furniture can be tracked at the Gordon Russell Museum, housed in his original workshop premises in Worcestershire. In 1923 Russell expanded the business and invested in modern machinery. His aim was to combine Arts and Crafts workmanship with ... moremass-production to produce high quality furniture affordable to everyone. This ranged from homely dining tables to elaborate antique marquetry furniture. Such as the 1925 print cabinet now residing in the Cheltenham Museum. In 1938 Russell set up the Good Furnishing Group. Vintage 6 Shelf Dark Oak Globe Wernicke Modular Barrister Bookcase Glass Front
Practical and attractive vintage modular barrister bookcase made by Globe Wernicke of Cincinnati. OH. Aged dark oak has a wonderful aged patina and, along with the glass front doors, will frame your items beautifully. Brass brackets support the sides and a molded top and bottom unit give this piece cohesion and structure. Each of the six sections in this flexible shelving can be separated and rearranged as necessary. Each shelf has one of three paper Globe Wernicke tags at the back. See pictures for examples of each. Unsure of exact age, but this piece most likely dates from the first half of the 1900's. Overall. This bookcase is in good condition, however it does have some signs of minor water damage and oxidation to the metal parts. Four of the six knobs for opening the glass shelf fronts are also missing. Rare, Antique Shaw Walker Barrister Bookcase, glass front, 3 piece Pick up NJ
Rare. Highly collectible Antique Barrister bookcase from the reputable Shaw Walker company. Stackable 3 piece, glass fronts. I am not sure of the type of wood, either cherry or mahogany- this piece is from the early 1900's- it has been well preserved and taken care of. The front and sides have been painted with a black Ethan Allen paint to match the other furniture we have- the inside of each unit and the back has not been painted. The measurements are about 49 1/2 inches tall(stacked with the 3 pieces) 34 inches width, and the depth is 11 1/2 inches. The top has a small scratch in the paint that measures a few inches, but the wood is not scratched as far as I can see. You can either touch up this paint scratch or remove the paint all together and restore to the orginal wood. Local pick up in New Jersey(zip code 07030)
