TALL 1890S SOLID & BURLED WALNUT BOOKCASE CABINET WARDROBE CARVED GLASS DOORS
Here is a fine very late 19th century mostly solid walnut and very tall at 8 and 1/2 feet bookcase. I love the simple architectural features of the carved arches over each glass door which combines the look of solid walnut and It would be fantastic in a library setting or even as a display cabinet as working locksets are being replaced as I write this so both doors will easily lock. It is perfect for the room a the top of a narrow stairwell as it dismantles and sets up very easily. The base with the two drawers is the first level to set up. This base section retains the original porcelain castors. Each of the side panels is screwed to a rear panel. It is easiest to handle these steps like this. Add one side and then the other. Then the center piece for the shelves slips in. Add the shelves and the front center piece to Which each of the doors ... morewill lock. Add the crown and then it is time to hang the doors. Untitled Document This vintage steel barrister bookcase is a single self-contained unit designed to stack in multiples. This barrister/ lawyer's case has a thick glass window that lifts and slides into the case. And and overall rugged and sturdy design that was built to last many decades of office abuse. It has a classic putty gray exterior finish and an olive drab green interior. I can't find a maker's stamp anywhere, only an old Georgia Power tag inside and a sticker designating it for the Engineering& Architecture dept. The glass door still slides and operates smoothly, and there are no dents or serious cosmetic damage. There is some rust on the underside of the cabinet, which can be seen in the last photo above. The astragal glass top contrasts beautifully with the full yew base, while brass hardware adorns the doors and drawer fronts. Behind each locking door on the top are two fully adjustable shelves, with a single removable shelf in each cabinet below. Two drawers also provide convenient storage space, while the central drawer is a secretary desk inlaid with gold-tooled green leather. This is certainly quite a versatile bookcase with much to offer to any home or office furniture collection, and would look lovely with the secretary drawer either on display or drawn in. Although this bookcase is very appealing and every bit as functional as it is elegant, it has sustained some light, cosmetic wear. The finish along the base on one of the sides has worn a bit, and there is also some wear on the center secretary drawer as well as on the leather itself. Manufactured by All-Steel Equipment, Aurora, IL, USA. If you’re trying to put together a complete tanker style office…or if you collect All-Steel Equipment brand furniture…you already know that these are as rare as hen’s teeth. This one has three removable. Adjustable shelves. These are the slightly fancier shelves with a larger lip on the front. This one also has two sliding glass doors. There are some chips on the upper right corners of each glass door. They’re hard to see and don’t need to be replaced unless you’re a perfectionist. for auction is a very rare model signed grand rapids desk company roll top desk with a bookcase on top. i have a 20 years book with one identical to this listed in it. it was valued at 2800 osver 20 years ago. anyway. This is a wonderful desk, great quartersawn flake all thru all the boards. great construction and quite heavy for its size. it has too many features to mention, but hopefully the pictures will bring them out. the desk portion is 28 inches deep, 31 tall, and 40 inches wide. it has nicely form doors with great carving on the fronts, the one on the left opens to expose three small drawers, the one on the right opens to nicely scalloped dividers. the knee hole of the desk is rounder out at the back and is nicely paneled on either side. the roll top is 11 inches tall, 37 wide, and 25.25 deep and has a nice set of cubbies with a pull ... moreout drawer and pencil holders etc. the roll top rolls like butter and has the grand rapids desk company brass name plate over the lock of which i do not have a key. i have a key blank for it and can make a key if i get time. the top bookcase portion sits in a recess of the top of the roll top and is 37 inches wide, 10.75 deep, and 30.5 inches tall including the crown board. it retains the original wavy glass, lock, quartersawn oak fancy dividers for the top of the glass and has one shelf which can be adjusted to your liking as there are additional holes in both side of the cabinet to place the shelf holder pins. the entire unit is nicely paneled and finished all the way around so it can be placed anywhere in a room and will look nice, it is not necessary to place against a wall. the unit is three portion which come apart with ease. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. Antique Secretary desk of solid oak. We bought this as an antique 30 years ago. We've used it as a bookcase and desk(see how desk portion folds out) But all the shelves may be taken out and it can be used as a gun cabinet. The desk has claw feet- and original keyholes. This Victorian oak piece combines a curved glass china cabinet with a drop front desk. The china cabinet has adjustable shelves, and can also be used as a bookcase. There is a fitted interior behind the drop front with a small drawer and various size cubbyholes for papers and envelopes. Additional storage is found in the three drawers below the desk section. Antique Victorian WALNUT& BURL BOOKCASE WITH DRAWER& ARCHED GLASS DOORS Carved A Victorian walnut and burl walnut bookcase with drawer in its original finish. Unknown as to maker. It has a burl walnut veneered top with drawer having molding and a carved grapes pull. Below are arched glass doors with locks and a key that operates both locks. At the case corners it has carvings and the case sits on a nicely molded base. There are six adjustable shelves inside with extra supports. Measurements: Height: 51-1/2” overall Width: 48” at top Width: 51” at base Depth: 16” at top Depth: 18” at base Doors: 20” x 36” Inside Depth: 11” Drawer Front: 41-1/4” x 4-1/2” Condition: there is some typical fracturing of the burl along the border at the top from age and nature of material. Typical minor wear to high spots of finish, glass in doors has been ... morereplaced with Plexiglas and the base molding has several small chips. The key operates both locks but is finicky and the drawer, because of its size, doesn’t work smoothly and requires both hands. It’s evident that it has always been that way as the drawer interior is excellent and shows little use. The bookcase interior and shelves are in excellent condition. The finish has a nice patina and is in very good condition. The top with the drawer comes off and the doors come out for moving. It is complete, all original and will give many more years of service.
