Up for consideration are 6 matching Arts& Crafts"Prairie School" Antique Leaded Glass interior Windows set in Oak Cabinet bookcase door frames. Overall dimensions are 49 1/2 inches tall by 12 1/2 inches wide by 7/8 ths inches thick. The stained glass panels are well made with a copper colored leaded finish. The original key is provided but is stuck in the lock. Most of the hinges are intact as well as the interior latch mechanism for each other half of the set. The finish is all original with slight discoloration to one part of the frame on one of the panels. There is one piece cracked on that same door. This is a very nice five stack graduated stepback barrister quartered oak bookcase. This case was manufactured by Globe Wernicke; a competitor of Macey and some of the other bookcase makers. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This quartered oak unit retains the original Globe labels. Bookcase contains four different sizes of cases(stacks) to accommodate different size books(or whatever) This unit also has a stepback bottom unit which is deeper-quite useful. This unit has been professionally refinished and restored-a beautiful smooth and even finish. Note the'leopard' bands connecting each section. When I wanted to use it(as it is shown) to display my green depression glass, the glass shelves displayed that beautifully. It is a solid oak piece with all the original hardware and original beveled mirror. We did add the glass shelves. They were missing when we purchased this piece many years ago. This auction is for an older Oak bookcase from England. It has both an Art Deco Look to it as well as Arts& Craft overtures. It's a very well made bookcase and quite heavy for it's size. It has a pretty leaded and stained glass door. One of the pieces of the blue glass has some cracks in it. The glass is still tight and intact but the cracks are there. See pictures below. 1800 curved glass bookcase / inlaid marketry drop front secretary desk unusual
hello. i have a nice old antique drop front secretary. the wood would seem to be mahogany. And some mahogany veneer. marketry front from an estate sale. Just down the road, i will tell you all that i know about it. a bit of damage. But it appears to have it all. and the damage is all minor) nice beveled mirror& shelf. a lead glass top section( missing an inside shelf) a curved glass door on the left( bookshelf) side. the glass is wavy and i am certain it is original. a drop front secretary( a bit of veneer loss on the surface) but look at the inlay in the center. original pigeon holes inside of the desk( one drawer is missing a tiny brass knob inside) the drawer directly beneath the desk is burl wood and it has a serpentine( curved) front. the other 3 drawers. 2 bottom and the small one over the desk are flat front) i do not have a 2 ... moredollar key that fits. also 2 of the original locks are missing the bookcase shelves are curved front. But i think perhaps the pulls are not original. a spot of white paint on the frame of the door is easily removed. and 2 bits of veneer to replace on the desk front. it had casters on the bottom, but they are no longer with this piece of furniture. it is easy to find 4 more. i have not cleaned the dust off this unusual piece. i just got it yesterday. it would seem to have the original finish and save for the pulls( and they may be original as well. it is exactly as it was made. perhaps victorian. Pieces like these are extremely hard to find and this size. This Victorian Eastlake piece is completely original, from a Hudson Valley Estate. The top features a two-door cabinet for transferware dishes, or could be used in a library for books. The glass is original wavy glass used from that time period. There are two adjustable shelves. The middle features a drop down desk complete with lock and key, original letter and paper slots, two drawers with milk glass knobs. The bottom features three drawers with original locks. Antique carved walnut escutcheon keyhole covers and stamped brass and ebonized wood teardrop finial handles. The piece is made from both American Chestnut ... moreand black walnut, with carving, rosettes, and gingerbread trim at the top. American Chestnut pieces are extremely rare to find today. A blight hit the chestnut trees around 1908 and wiped out the American Chestnut. Thus making it rare and valuable. Comes apart in two pieces for transport and setup. Ready to use in your library. Dining room, parlor or dressing room. The condition is good. Nicks here and there as expected with age. The desk front appears to have been repaired at one point, sturdy and works fine. Purchased in the 1980's at a nearby Antique and Collectible show. The Larkin Desk has seen only light use as its tall attractive form stood decorating a wall over the past many years. Larkin Desks were made from around 1890 until 1915. They came in many different styles from most basic to ornate. This one offers many fine features. Has a beveled mirror top center and two small corner pedestal candle shelves either side. Embossed scrollwork adorns rounded top. Scrollwork embellishment on slant-top fold-up front of desk. Opens up flat supported by hinges either ... moreside. Desk organizing compartments inside includes small pull out drawer. Bookcase below offering two shelves for a home library. Also, the pull knob on front of desk is loose and interior lock is missing. Left side hinge is replacement, not original, and two small dividers missing from inside compartments. This door also has the old wavy glass.wood has a nice patina probably oak. Door measures 32 7/8" x 11 1/8" Glass size measured in frame is 30" x 7 7/8" There also are some cutouts on the frame out of the wood not sure what they were for.
