Here is a terrific late 19th to early 20th century Empire style three section one piece walnut bookcase with fluted columns. Octagonal feet with casters and dentition across the top of the front as well as old glass. This large functional old bookcase stands 65 inches tall and measures 74 inches wide by 18 inches front to back, with the feet being it's widest point. The top board on the bookcase itself is 72 inches long and 17 inches deep front to back. Inside the bookcase, the internal measurements of the bookcase on each end is 23 inches wide by 56 1/2 inches tall and 13 1/2 inches deep, while the central section measures the same height and depth but is 22 inches wide. Each of the three sections offers it's base as well as three additional adjustable shelves for storing books, with each of the shelves measuring 12 inches deep with ... morean additional inch beveled edge at the front. The old glass is completely intact and free of any cracks or breaks. The bookcase does have old lock mechanisms but I have not located a key to work them at this point. Overall this bookcase is in very good condition for it's age, with only two small spot across the front with any damage to the veneer and potential easy restorations if the new owner desired. There are a few minor nicks and small scratches to one side of the case but otherwise this bookcase is in very good condition for a piece it's age. The cabinet boasts the original brass ormolu mounts to the upper and lower sections. There is elegant gilt beading to the perimeter of the canopy and this is also displayed around the glass door. There is a very an attractive doom shaped door which features the original glass(this is rare to see) The door has a working lock and key. The interior has been relined in a green velvet material with small motifs. The interior has two fixed shelves. The whole of the cabinet stands on a figured burr walnut shaped plinth. This item features a rich yellow to brown burr walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish. Shorter ones are commonly found, but finding one of this height is truly harder to come by.It has the stenciled mark showing the patented dates of May 16, 1876, Feb 20& Dec 11, 1877. Antique Italian late 17C cabinet credenza bookcase. Pine & walnut.
Here's a fine example of an early Italian pine credenza of about 350 years old. The pine now. While darker, still casts a yellowish hue that lightens up the whole piece, unlike others that are all walnut that came after this. Still sports it's original spring lock on an unmolested door(never removed or changed) No key. However. Large walnut diamond lozenge shapes on two front doors and sides. Still solid and without any weakness. Door and drawer knobs. I find that so amazing. Totally solid. Doors however are fine, but should be opened slow and with a slight lifting so that they don't rub on the lower shelf. Right door looks to have been cracked and repaired. Inside floor has an old sheet of plywood put on over the existing floor. Very minor losses to floor moulding. At one time a TV was installed in the cabinet and the back of ... morethe cabinet was cut about 8" round to accomodate the old TV's. Fortunately. This is a giant and gorgeous item. The bookcase is 30" wide by 16" deep. The piece is made of Walnut with Burled trim. The Cathedral style front glass panels are original to the piece as well I believe. This piece has been in my parents home for the last 60 years, at least. The piece dates back to the 1860's/70's and was originally owned by a very prominent Louisville, Kentucky, family. It is in nice overall used condition. I would assume the bookcase was refinished at some point, most likely by my mother. There are two doors which open from the center and a drawer at the bottom which slides out.
