Ostensibly they are bookcases but of course you can use them to hold other items. They look particuarly good with decorative items- statues, vases etc- in them. However, for myself, being the bookish type I have a pair in my home with nothing but lovely, fading works of literature in them. The shelves are adjustable to suit meaty tomes or smaller paperbacks. The shelves work on a slat system so you can adjust them to whatever height you like for whatever you like. From\War and Peace\ to the\World\s Smallest Book of Poetry\ these bookcases are perfect. The open fronts are Sheraton style. Main body is walnut polished to a high sheen with solid shelves The inlay is made from various fruitwoods- satinwood. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. Antique Walnut Slant Front Drop Lid Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top
There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

Incredible find.beautiful old Plantation Desk top. In lovely condition. Not abused, from a non-smoking home. Usually the only the bottom part of the plantation desks survive. But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. An age-appropriate pull would be wood. So it should be easy to replace. A very fine antique. Circa 1880's, simple Eastlake style solid walnut two door bookcase over two drawer base. One piece construction. There are four walnut fronted maple adjustable shelves, the interior back boards also of maple. The panels on the two drawers, and the cornice panel, are burl walnut veneer. The doors retain the original wavy glass panels, and the lock. The drawers have their locks and original hardware. The sides of the walnut case are recessed panels. It is on iron casters. The furniture measures 81" tall by 45-1/2" wide by 16-1/2" the shelves 10-1/2 deep. Excellent condition: original finish, walnut boards without chip or cracks, burl veneer complete. An antique Walnut Cabinet with Glass Doors on the front. With both shelf and drawer space, circa 1850. We are pleased to present this antique Walnut Cabinet for your consideration. It features four adjustable shelves in the interior(plus one at the bottom that is not adjustable) In addition. There are two drawers at the bottom. The shelves are protected behind two glass doors, which makes this piece ideal for use as a display cabinet or book shelf needing dust protection for the contents. Ornate wood trim is found over the upper portions of both doors. The shelf adjustment system is shown as an inset to our picture#5. A small board fits into slots found at the front and back. The board then provides support for the shelf above. The two large doors have a locking mechanism. But the key appears built in. It does not look like it is original ... moreto the piece. The trim plate on the lock is free to spin around, but in good physical shape(it needs to be secured with a couple of small nails) The two lower pieces of glass show substantial"ripple" Typical of antique glass production. It is much less obvious on the upper two pieces, and we guess that they were replaced more recently. The trim over the upper glass has some splits and shade differences, suggesting repairs or replacements have been made. The drawers at the bottom appear to have their original hardware. Each has a large lock mechanism in the center. But we do not have the matching key. Handles are quite heavy and substantial, with large ornate plates behind the handles. The fronts of the drawers are covered with a beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer, which shows some small chips around the edges. Dovetail joints are found at the front, with more of a box style joint found at the back(see pictures#8 and#9 for close up detail) The Cabinet measures 78 inches high(68 inches exclusive of the trim piece at the back edge of the top. Here is a gorgeous solid walnut Empire Revival bookcase from about 1880. Only two shelves are shown in the photos. However, there are four removable/adjustable shelves. The lock sets are original in the door and drawers and there are two keys which fit both. Easy to transport and to break down and set up. This bookcase has the base, the crown and then, basically, a stack of wood to include the two glass doors. Circa 1900 Walnut Converted to bookcase 4 adjustable shelves Wear noted in description Locks with key, This unusual bookcase started off its life as a French armoire that was made around the year 1900. Someone as since added and adjustable shelved interior. Two interior drawers, and removed the wooden panels on the doors and replaced them with chicken wire. The result is a very nice, French country bookcase that would look great in any room! The four adjustable shelves inside this antique bookcase have a 14.25″ depth. They adjust ... morevia an alligator bracket system giving you plenty of options for space between each shelf. At the bottom of the interior are two drawers for added storage. These drawers are made with hand cut dovetails and work very well. The front doors lock with an included key. The lock is what is called a“double throw” lock. That means you must turn the key twice in order to lock/unlock the doors. We have also found that the door locks best if you gently push the bottom of the door in while turning the key. There are a few very nice carvings to be found on this bookcase. First. The front legs have a floral carving to them which is quite attractive, but simple. The cornice is also adorned with carvings of flora that form almost a crest or medallion at the top. Walnut is the wood used to create this French bookcase. It is a wonderful. Light color that will compliment any surrounding. This bookcase has worn well over the years and today remains in good condition. The bottom of the doors have a few minor chips to them. The original glossy finish has been revarnished over the years and is very well preserved with enough wear for warm antique patina. There are stains. Mars at the edges, shrinkage separations from age and ink stains for character. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The drop front key is a handle only, the lock does not work. Inside are cubicles and small drawers. A separate piece for easier moving. The bookcase has a working lock.
